for that we turn to our white house correspondent jeremy diamond. >> reporter: president trump is expected to issue around 100 pardons on tuesday. that will be his final full day in office. the pardons, we're told, are expected to include a mixture of some more controversial pardons to white collar criminals, high profile rappers as well as potentially some of the president's political allies. there will be in this batch several pardons that are more criminal justice reform minded. pardons that would be more akin to those -- to the one that the president gave to alice marie johnson who herself has been advocating with the president for pardons for other individuals who have been incarcerated for a long time. now this final batch of clemency actions will cap off a scramble for securing pardons for themselves or other people. "the new york times" is reporting today that some of the president's allies have been paid tens of thousands of dollars to secure pardons or to at least lobby the president to secure pardons for certain convicted felons. our sources are telling us that a self-pardon for

and cnn's jeremy diamond is live at the white house with more. what do we expect, jeremy? >> reporter: good morning, alisyn. that's right, president biden expected to deliver this first primetime address of his presidency on thursday and of course he will be discussing the coronavirus pandemic. this address will mark one year since the world health organization officially declared covid-19 a global pandemic. it also comes a year after we saw another president deliver a primetime address from the oval office. that was president trump who then announced those travel restrictions to europe and really started to take a much more serious concerned approach to the coronavirus after weeks of down playing it. and really it is remarkable to see what has happened in that year. 29 plus million americans who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, more than 525,000 americans have died from this virus. so you can expect president biden to talk not only about the toll of this pandemic over the last year, the sacrifices that the american people have endured, but also to look forward at

jeremy, what are we expecting to hear from the president this hour? >> reporter: right now, president biden is in the oval office with his coronavirus advisory team. they are briefing him on this omicron variant, briefing that the president has been receiving daily. when he comes out later this hour to speak, he'll talk about what we do know and don't know about the variant and he'll be urging the public against panicking here. we do expect the president to instead urge americans that now is the time, if you haven't yet, to get vaccinated and get your booster shot if you are fully vaccinated and eligible for that third shot. so that is the message we'll hear from the president. he's going to try and show that he is on top of this situation while at the same time urging americans not to panic. we do know that it is very clear that it will take a week to two weeks before we know exactly the impact of this variant, and that's something that the president is going to outline today. >> we'll take the president live when he comes to cameras to speak. >>> in

joining us now, cnn jeremy dimon. jeremy, we heard from the president. what will he do? what are we going to actually see from him today? >> clearly you can see he is considering action, which is notable given how quickly it came after this colorado shooting, also given the fact that so far in his administration, it had not been the top priority that many thought it might be, but clearly this is proving up on the priority list, and now we have president biden not only pushing members of congress to pass, pushing the senate specifically to pass those two pieces of legislation in the house expanding background checks but also considering a range of executive actions. white house officials told me over here they're considering a range of executive actions to address gun control measures including ones that relate to guns that doan have serial numbers and talking about those kinds of sales. so there is some momentum here, some discussion here, but really the question is will it change anything? will it fundamentally change the dynamics in the senate where you have not only t

cnn's jeremy diamond is live at the white house. jeremy, what more are you learning about this plan that the white house is laying out? >> reporter: this afternoon president biden will announce a slate of new actions to combat the coronavirus heading into the winter months to combat both the omicron variant as well as the delta variant, which has been circulating in the united states for months already. this will be a mixed of increased screening for international travel, ramped up efforts to get americans vaccinated and increasing testing in the united states. on the international travel front, inbound travelers traveling to the united states from abroad will have to provide proof of a negative test taken one day before travel. on theesting front, expanded availability with a requirement for private insurers to reimburse the cost of those at-home test kits. vaccines, more family focused clinks, providing doses for children and adults. also outreach to seniors in particular to encourage them to get their booster shots. one thing tha

cnn's jeremy diamond is at the white house for us. ryan, there is also a pressing time issue, obviously, a short deadline speaker pelosi is giving the vice president to act. what are you learning? >> reporter: that's right, wolf. 24 hours, nancy pelosi essentially putting vice president mike pence on the clock, asking him if he plans to move forward with the effort to remove president trump from office by using the 25th amendment. and if vice president mike pence says he's not going in that direction or he doesn't respond to pelosi within 24 hours, she said she and her democratic colleagues are prepared to move forward with articles of impeachment. now, the timing is a little bit vague from speaker pelosi. she said she's going to introduce this resolution as early as monday morning, but then asked for unanimous consent. if she asks for unanimous consent, even one republican could object and then force an up or down vote. that may not happen until tuesday, which would mean that the impeachment proceedings wouldn't begin until wednesday
