now six asian women are killed in atlanta. one group that tracks hate crimes against asian americans says that the incidents are spiking. nearly 3800 complaints of violence and harassment over the last 12 months. and many believe what the former president trump aggravated the situation by constantly blaming china for the pandemic and the downturn in america's economy, using loaded terms like the china virus. he did it again last night. >> we were the envy of the world. and then when we got hit by as i call it, the china virus, covid, it obviously went down along with every other economy. >> i want to bring in our new york congresswoman grace ming. last year she sponsored a resolution condemning hate violence against asian americans that passed in the house. but 164 republicans voted it down. representative ming, thank you so much. i appreciate you joining us this evening. it's a very important topic. so let's discuss. that was just last night. shortly before we learned of the shootings in atlanta. is there any surprise that ha

he's 21 years old, from the woodstock area outside of atlanta. it's very near buckhead in atlanta. this road has been shut down for several hours as investigators have done their investigation. cherokee county is about 47 minutes away from here, and chris county, where he was eventually arrested is almost two hours away from this location. so you know that law enforcement has been working, coordinating things throughout the just dictions to figure out the motive of the shooting. we haven't been told about a first court appearance or whether or not investigators have been able to ask the critical question but the toll has been so hard for families. we're also told the reason they haven't released additional information about the victims is because they haven't had a chance to notify the family members involved. it's going to be a heartbreaking scene, over and over again as families start to learn loved ones have been lost to these senseless shootings. >> as it said on your note that i got here, that information has not been released on cherokee county because officials are still wor

atlanta this weekend the gunman was also alive. does that make this a different shooting in some regard? >> so this is where we -- the tick tock is going to be. very important. we have a police officer dead, he was the first police officer that entered. and at least in the press conference they said he was instrumental. in ensuring not more people were dead. what we don't know is was -- is the injuries by the suspect caused by the police officer who was shot in the process. that is the key that i'm looking for. and that would explain his injuries. but the fact he was still alive. that he may have been injured. but still alive when the rest of the police came into the building. >> in return to the response the police chief law enforcement was on the scene within minutes of receiving 911 calls. and said that saved lives. still we had a death toll of ten. >> this is the nature of these guns. and the nature of the kind of communities that we live in. and i think the nature of the way that these things unfold. which is to kill ten peopl
