so look out metro atlanta, could have a few inches of rain before it is all said and done. this system will eventually dissipate by the end of the weekend, just a few isolated showers and thunderstorms and that moisture southwesterly flow. across the country on the pacific northwest side, we have an atmospheric river event shaping up for the weekend. we have at potential to see more rain from this storm than they do in the entire month of september for seattle. you would think this is good news for the ongoing wildfires over the western u.s. over 75 active large wildfires at the moment. yes, we will get rain that will help the conditions there. but ahead of this system, we have gusty winds that will increase the fire threat and also make the fire behavior more erratic across the region, that is why we have red flag warnings and watches in place for many of the locations across the western u.s. let's talk temperatures today, 66 for seattle, 74 in new york city. 79 and very humid in atlanta with that southwesterly flow. new orleans, you will top 83 degrees. kim, back to you.

the train from downtown atlanta south into the airport. i had just gotten off the train and was walking through one of the main entrances in the domestic terminal alongside baggage claim, making my way towards security. and i had gotten all of 20 steps down the hallway before a combination of other passengers and airport security folks told me that i needed to stop walking. so i stopped, i turned around, and i retraced those 20 or so steps that i had taken, and i was sitting at the corner of that hallway for the next maybe three to five minutes. and folks were having conversations about an active shooter, some folks said that they had heard gunshots, but for the most part it was calm. and we saw someone turn the corner and just barrel down that hallway. and that was the point at which all chaos kind of broke out. everyone was dropping their suitcases, folks were running in any possible direction away from what we thought was the center of action. people were sliding under rais and jumping over barricades, just trying to get out of what we

on saturday, atlanta police identified the man with the gun as kenny wells, a convicted felon. they say he managed to escape the airport with the weapon and officers are actively searching for him. now, the situation also unfolded during one of the busiest weekends of the year, as americans travel ahead of the thanksgiving holiday on thursday. cnn's nadia romero has more. >> reporter: we're getting back to a sense of normalcy at atlanta's hartsfield-jackson airport, after the security incident that happened at about 1:30 on saturday. so we know that there was a passenger who had a gun that was in his bags at some point during the security check bocheckpoint with tsa, it was an accidental discharge. we know that that passenger during the confusion, the chaos that ensued there after fled the airport. investigators are trying to track him down to investigate and speak with him. now, that created a domino effect of confusion and at some points, chaos in the airport, as people learned that there was an active shooter

natasha chen, cnn, atlanta. >>> the first sentencing of a u.s. capitol rioter is set for later this week. it's been more than five months since a crowd of pro-trump rioters stormed the building trying to stop congress from certifying joe biden's election. since then hundreds have been charged in connection with the attack. marshall cohen reports it could be months or years before their cases are wrapped up. >> reporter: we are just a few days away from the first capitol rioter getting sentenced. it's been more than five months since january 6th and nearly 500 people have been charged. the defendants come from all across america, 43 states and washington, d.c. they're from big cities and small towns, include people that flew here on private jets and others that scraped together the money to pay for gas. now a few of these defendants have already pleaded guilty and later this week, one of them will be sentenced, anna morgan lloyd. back on the day of the attack january 6th she posted online it was the best day ever. now she's singing a different tun

i'm robyn curnow here in atlanta. a danish football star is recovering after a terrifying medical emergency in the middle of a euro 2020 match with fin land. christian erickson had to be resuscitated after suddenly collapsing on the pitch. teammates and fans watched in shock and anguish as medical staff rushed over to give him emergency care. erickson is apparently doing fine, according to the danish football association. alex thomas is in london with more details on this. alex, hi. certainly i know a lot of us were watching, and it was a very, very long 10 minutes, 13 minutes, when he was out on the field there. >> horrific change in mood as well. we're here to celebrate the european football championships, delayed for 12 months because of coronavirus. only a couple of days into this delayed competition. and you expect to see these guys running up and down the pitch, erickson particularly in midfield covers more territory than most. he suddenly collapsed a couple of minutes before halftime. it was clear very quickly

but it's atlanta that has the overall highest inflation rate in the country. the southern city has that inflation rate due to big factors like housing, gas prices, and the cost of groceries, as well. its inflation rate, 7.9%, compared to the national average at 6.2%. since this data shows that georgia has become one of the top places to move in recent years, the demand for housing in the atlanta metro area is outpacing supply, resulting in higher rents and home prices. now, beyond atlanta, metro areas nationwide are seeing spiking costs for basic items like gas, food, and furniture, when compared to last year, according to the bureau of labor statistics. economists have also linked the surge in pricing to bottlenecks in the supply chain, the result of a collision between pent-up consumer demand and a lack of resources. on friday, georgia governor brian kemp touted a new megarail system at the port of savannah that he says could alleviate some supply chain issues. but he also says, the biden administration needs to do more to address inflation concerns. >> ther
