also days, the santa clara county sheriff laurie smith. she was in court today to answer corruption and misconduct charges. the san francisco's district attorney's office is handling the case because of a conflict of interest. it's not the santa clara county civil grand jury. 3 of the charges center on claims that the sheriff you legally granted licenses for concealed carry weapon permits to people who either contributed to her campaign or prominent in the community. there are 3 other charges. the focus on the san jose sharks came that the sheriff that ended in february of 2019 she allegedly received free suite tickets and food and drinks which exceeded the $500 gift limit. court documents also say she failed disclose those gifts, the 7th cap that she faces accuses her of failing to cooperate with an ongoing investigation surrounding the treatment of an inmate. smith has been in office for 23 years. many city and county leaders are now calling on her to step down. smith is expected to be back in court on march. 15th for a status hearing. o
