in the north bay we have been getting light rain. a couple hundredths of an inch of rain for communities up and down 101, that's the latest look at high def doppler. futurecast sees it, play it forward and watch showers slowly fall apart as they slowly march south across the rest of the bay. we'll see rain across the golden gate within the next hour or two and from there, there is less and less rain so by the time we get to south bay there is not a lot left. we will get breaks in the clouds today which will be nice. by the time we have gotten to noon we are looking at sunshine in the north bay. once we get to the afternoon, back edge of the clouds will clear out for everybody else. rainfall totals are light, get a tenth of an inch of rain out of this for the most part. be aware of slick roads for the morning commute. daytime highs go to the upper 50s today with more blue sky. it will snow in the sierra. we'll pick up another half foot and that's why we've got another winter weather advisory until 6:00. you see the snow level down per

inland east bay and north bay valleys. you see from the camera, there is that low cloud bank over the skyline. i will show you where we have some trouble spots. we'll leave that view, as cool as that looks. everybody is in the mid 50s except concord. isn't that interesting? it's 46 in concord. concord you are one of the locations that has fog. that colder air and fog kind of going hand in hand. santa rosa 51. you've got it as well. it's 0.3 of a mile now for concord. the north bay, we are about a mile as well. and fairfield is down on the drive. patchy fog for the usual suspects. if we look above the fog and check the mid level clouds, it's gray everywhere. if we play it forward, we stay that way. gray skies, we never really get a break. it will stay this way until tomorrow's rain. there is rain coming home morning. today's daytime highs, low 60s for warmer spots in the south bay. mid 50s for inland valleys of the east bay, upper 50s about everywhere else. if we track the next opportunity for rain, you see it right there.

we see the fog in the north bay as well. over to you. >> yeah, we can see that low visibility in the north bay. but, also, what you can't see are the temperatures and how cold it is this morning. right now we're seeing a lot of these numbers dropping down to the mid-30s and i wouldn't be surprised if a few spots got to freezing this morning. we're feeling that in the south county, but then as we go into the rest of today, spots like santa rosa will go from right near freezing. we're at 33 right now. we'll go to the upper 60s and see sunshine with a milder day, compared to what we're starting with. as we take a look at what's going on around big sur, we've been keeping an eye on what's called the colorado fire. this still burning, but we are getting more containment. looking at the weather conditions in that area, it's now 47 degrees. it's chilly, humidity is coming up and the winds are a lot lighter compared to when this fire first started. hopefully that containment will continue. some of that smoke is and we're going to se

inland valleys of east bay and north bay valleys. you see concord here on the regular image showing it is reporting fog at the airport. look at the temperatures. it's warm, mid 50s for just about everywhere. concord in the mid 40s. it's cold. that reading is down to 0.3 of a mile for concord. it will be cloudy but at least we won't have fog on the road unless you are inland east

by that i mean the north bay. that's when this will be bringing most noticeable rain through sonoma, marin, napa, not to say it won't rain after that to the south. it will. it won't be that good. that's maybe about 0.2 of an inch of rain. if we go to 9:00 and 10:00, golden gate, it will rain today, don't get me wrong. by then we are talking about light showers that should not have a significant impact on the drive. even the rain in the north bay, windshield wipers will likely be on in the window of really 7:00 to 9:00. but it shouldn't have much of an impact. slick roads are slick roads. give yourself extra time. south bay, maybe a shower in the early afternoon. then we watch clouds clear out by the time we get to 1:00 or 2:00. that might be one of the more interesting things about this. it's been a while since we have seen blue sky. it's going to take a while to do that for some of us. for north bay you will see it by early afternoon. in the south bay, you might get to clear blue sky by just around sun set tonigh

the north bay is where we are watching. make sure your home and everything around your home is ready for the high winds. as the temperatures head for the mid to upper 60s today, a little warmer today. as the system passes through to the east of us, it's pushing in the high winds and also around the high pressure that has been keeping our weather dry. it has been dry for a while so you are probably wondering how is the sierra snowpack? not bad at all. we're still above normal and on track to continue to see above normal snowpack. we are right now at 113% of our average amount of snow thanks to the big boost we had in december. now as we take a look at our 7-day forecast, it will get cooler. dry weather continues for the next several days. hopefully we see a change in the pattern for early february. as of right now we are still dealing with comfortable temperatures, but just watching the gusty winds for later today. >>> mike, you have been looking at the fog and how it has had an impact on the north bay commute. >> kari, we a

we do have a wind warning for the north bay mountains. we could see wind gusts to 50 miles per hour and maybe a little stronger through about 11 a.m.. this is where we've got a wind advisory. not as intense. not including the areas where we all live. anybody in the mountains will experience winds up to 30 miles per hour. when you look at the winds, you can see why. they are gusting up to 50 in the higher elevations. we see a sign that the winds are about to die down. once we get into this evening, it is barely even breezy. the rest of the day shows us some high clouds and daytime highs in the mid 60s. 67, san jose. 67, santa rosa. fremont, 64. looking across the seven day forecast, there is no change in that pattern. mid-to upper 60s for some of our warmer valleys. when we take a look at the microclimates, we see the same story across the north bay. low to mid-60s everywhere else. no rain coming our way. >>> i want to underscore a couple of things that you said. the area where that fire started is somewhat sparsely populated. i think the

interior tri-valley, interior east bay, on into the north bay, these are the locations to the north of santa rosa, near calistoga, that likely could once again see temperatures close to the upper 20s by morning. so tomorrow morning, bayside, mid-30s. notice the trend as we get into monday and tuesday. lows in the 40s my monday morning. 40s and 50s by tuesday as clouds come in, which means rain is just around the corner. so the frigid air starts to move out. raindrops come back in. we'll show you how much rain you can expect, how much snow this can mean to the sierra in our forecast in ten minutes. >>> the always impressive king tides are back in the bay area this weekend. this is a look at san francisco's embarcadero today. the water lapping right up onto the sidewalks. the peak expected to hit tomorrow just after 10:00 a.m. even monday the tides are going to be much higher than normal. king tides happen when the moon and sun are at their closest points to earth. >>> the official fireworks shows may have been canceled, but illegal fireworks still lit up the sky across the bay area last

it's very focused through the north bay. the rest of the bay area is doing okay when it comes to the fog. forecasted highs for today, we are going to get afternoon sun. it's not going to be as cloudy as it was in some spots yesterday, and our daytime highs are going to be a little cooler up to the north bay, but very similar down through the south bay. 62 degrees in san jose, 60 degrees in concord. 58 degrees in oakland, 57 in san francisco, and 59 degrees in napa. your air quality outlook, we're going to remain moderate for the most part. i did see a bump in the north bay to 82. this stays within the frame of moderate between 51 and 100 for the air quality index. we should be okay there as well as the long range outlook, that dry pattern still continues, but heading into tonight and into tomorrow, we are expecting to see some of that wind start to kick up, especially for the higher elevation areas in the mountains. so by sunday, that high pressure continues to dominate. it rolls back in in strength. over the next seven days

spotty showers mainly for the north bay. by late this morning into early this afternoon, i think the north bay and peninsula will be the main targets for that chance of showers for today. as we go into tomorrow morning, it starts to taper off. we're looking at about 0.1 to a quarter inch of rain for san francisco, and lighter for the santa clara valley. for the north bay, we could see up to half an inch over the next couple of days and could see a nice coating of snow for the sierra, and the possibility of about four inches over the next couple of days in lake tahoe, and more for kingvale. heading up to 60 degrees on wednesday. we will see upper 50s and low 60s as we go into the rest of the week. we will be watching out for more widespread rain in the forecast by the end of the week. >>> mike, heading out the door this morning for commuters, how is it looking out there on the roads? >> it's looking light. we will start in the south bay because there's an ongoing issue from last night. it's not on the freeways, but i marked i

north 680 at concord avenue. contra costa county, easy drive. low visibility in the north bay. we were talking about a north bay closure as well, looking toward the tennessee street crossing. it joins the georgia street over-crossing. that's the rest of your commute, absoluting -- including the san mateo bridge. >>> scary moments for a man in palo alto who chased off car thieves from his home. the confrontation happened around midnight saturday on south court. police say the suspects were also seen on talisman court. a man shot at officers and he noticed several people shining flashlights. when he went outside, he caught a man next to his own car in the driveway. he chased the suspects to a dark suv and that's when a bullet was fired at the ground in front of him. say neighbors say they're worried about the rise in crime. >> it's pretty surprising. if car break-ins can happen, what's next? it could be breaking in-houses and stuff. that's scary. >> this is a look at the suv that the thieves were seen in. police say there could be as many as six people involved. >>> for the first

by that point it is sunshine entirely for the north bay which will be nice. you can see the back edge of the clouds here by 2:00 or 3:00 just starting to clear for the rest of the bay as well and just in time for sun set by 4:30 today. we'll see clearer skies for just about the entire bay. in terms of how much rain we get, totals are low. we are only looking at about a tenth of an inch of rain tops for most locations. this system does move into sierra where it will drop snow. we'll pick up several inches of snow in the mountains. there is a winter weather advisory. temperatures staying in the upper 50s all the way through. this is the only day with rain on it whether we look at san francisco, oakland, san jose or the micro climates, it's pretty much the same story. i will have more coming up in the 5:00 hour. let's get updated on the drive with gianna. >>> let's take a look at those roadways. the good news is we are accident free, no major incidents or issues so that's a positive. again as you head out, don't forget that umbrella. it's going to be a bit of a

we are seeing power outages in the north bay in sonoma county and fairfield. pg&e reminds people if you see downed power lines, stay away and call emergency crews. firefighters are also out in the open hills after reports of downed trees and power lines. a lot going on this morning. let's get over to meteorologist lisa sergeant checking these conditions. lisa: good morning. this started yesterday as the national weather service put up that high wind warning and it really has gotten more intense overnight. as we look at the wind advisory and high wind warning that lasts until 11:00, the yellow until 7:00 around sunrise. it will still be breezy after that with mount diablo wind gusts near 60. it has been particularly windy for oakland hills to mount diablo. for mount tam 37. here is the relative humidity and even down at the surface we are 26% in hayward, 27% oakland. the dry northerly wind drying out the air. we got up in height and mount tam and hawkeye near 19%. the wind will continue to drive things out. this is good it will only last the next few hours. 60

well, in the north bay, members of the marin and sonoma county bus operators union are authorizing a strike set for this coming weekend. not clear whether it will actually happen. but the union is hoping that this move will to authorize a strike will help get some stalled contract talks moving forward. union leaders say that there have been they've been in talks now for 7 months and still no contract. a spokesperson for the golden gate bridge district says that they're hopeful that there will be the namic ul full resolution soon. we'll see. now to the latest on the wildfires burning to our south of the colorado fire in big sur began on friday and forced a lot of people in the area to evacuate their homes. cal fire says that the fire now is 40% contained. it's about 700 acres in size and highway one is still shut down from a drop in a creek. >> 2 points are all types of traditional firefighting tactics are being used right now to try and stop the flames. some big challenges over the weekend, though, where the wind gusts, which were clocked up to about 50 miles per hour at times. >> an

north and east bay. you can see down to a quarter of a mile in nevada, half mile up in napa and santa rosa, three quarters of a mile in livermore and elsewhere. not too much of an issue, but as we look at our current temperatures, his cold 37 in danville, 41. in matara bread on top of mount yeah, both 38 walnut creek and you go up to the north bay and you are just above freezing their santa rosa 48 in pacifica. so looking at that 24 hour temperature change a lot colder out there six degrees colder in her inland valleys. but how about that? 11 degrees colder in concord in 17 degrees colder santa rosa so with a little bit of clear sky and a drier air mass moving in high pressure building in the atmosphere. allowing for kind of a spooky shot out there, but a nice afternoon a nice weekend, but that fog north and east bay this morning more sunshine throughout the afternoon. today, we'll introduce some more high clouds. for your sunday it looks like we could see a few sprinkles coastal hills on monday doesn't
