now through february 15th doctor mark galli says that will be reevaluated as we get closer to that time. but that's the situation. now and state officials are saying they're concerned about increased hospitalizations admissions both for covid and also other diseases. it was during a phone conference today that california health and human services secretary doctor mark galli said there were approaching a peak number of hospitalizations seen during the pandemic last year at this time. 53,000 people were in the hospital for both covid and other diseases like heart attacks even recovering from surgeries and diabetes. as of today. there are 51,000 patients in the hospital. doctors are not only helping those patients but hospitals are stressed with the demand for covid testing. doctor galley says the state will expand testing capacity to meet that demand. kron four's dan kerman is on the story for us tonight. he's got the very latest during kron 4 news at 5 o'clock. and just in now to the kron 4 news room. the cdc's vaccine advisers just gave the green light to pfizer's covid 19 booster shots
