chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a different type of power in the background. yeah, we've got this one. we got sfo out there right now. scanning your skies and so far no major delays being reported at sfo. remember yesterday we had our long delays with the gusty winds and some of the rain look good at oakland right now. also in the san jose something to watch out for. we've had these storm systems off the coastline rolling in. they're generating some big-time swell along the coastline. we've got a high surf advisory there until tomorrow morning. some of those waves coming in this high as 22 feet. so stay away from the water's edge. but we've got more stormy weather on the way begin to pick up the next round of rain starting to move into parts of the north bay. see some of the showers sliding on through right now in the santa rosa and headed for the south throughout the night tonight. not going to be a big system, but going make things a little bit wet. but we've got another one right behind it. that may be a little more but substantial a break in the weather pa

and chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by. and i'm like these beautiful son says he's not because of pollution, right? yeah, a little it's not as hazy as it was yesterday, but it does add to the colors of the atmosphere. how about that? almost like a lion sunset out for tonight. a few high clouds in the distance there. otherwise. >> we've got mostly clear skies. curtis, of those offshore winds. here's a long-range look at the forecast. we've been trying to get some rain coming in here. ridge of high pressure overhead. right now you see a little weak disturbance. this little low off the coastline that starts to wander toward the coastline ever. so slowly moving in to southern california, not bring us any rain. but you know, if that's on saturday, remember game and southern california on saturday. don't think we'll see much in the way of rain in los angeles. but we're talking about some partly cloudy skies and dry conditions here. and then as we head through the weekend, what looked like a promising a storm system a couple days

meteorologists lawrence karnow joins a cent. well, as more yeah. a little more rain coming. you can see that cloud there, right down on the surface. this is how it looks down below. not as beautiful but up toward the golden gate bridge. you see all that fog sitting on the ground now pushing on shore. and you can see the sea breeze kicking that fog in the bay too. that's we're going contend with tonight with some fog and then a little bit of rain begin to move in a little bit. later and talk. not that far away. you can see the showers mainly in northern california now, but beginning to drift the system coming in tonight y- going to be a fairly weak one as it moves on through most of the bay area dry. we see parts of the north bay now beginning to see a couple of scattered showers pop up there. we're going to see more of that as we head through the night tonight as the system moves through again, not a huge storm system but a chance, some more rain keep things wet around the bay area overnight not expecting the gusty winds like we had yesterday. we're just getting more of a ge

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. it's all about perspective, lawrence. yeah, you know, we've got a long way to go. we had all that rain in the beginning the season that kind of tailed off and then. >> really gangbusters as we went into december lot of rain, but things have dried out again. and this is pretty common. these midseason dry spells are just part of our climate here in the bay area that usually lasts on average about 19 days and they happen between december and january. really, right in the heart of the wet season. almost giving you like a fake spring. the longest dry spell on record was 56 days. if you can believe over a month, almost 2 months back in 2014 2015, the shortest back in the 50's. that was only 8 days, hopefully we'll get this dry spell over with. here's long-range forecast models coming from noaa and the shows you the areas california here that united states, you see california in the brown here that with below normal precipitation chances for in the forecast until about the end of this month. and that's what i'm seeing on long ra

meteorologists lawrence karnow with us now. >> and lawrence, we were pleading for rain for many, many months and we got it. yeah. hold on. do too much more likely off the pedal just a little bit of yeah. this is another impressive little system. this one kind of different, though. this one coming in with a lot of low level moisture out there. now we're left with some fog out there. all that moisture on the surface there. and now we're seeing some true dense fog out there around the bay area. but look at the amounts. >> canfield almost 3 inches of rain from this last storm system all almost an inch almost half an inch in petaluma richmond 3 quarters of an inch napa, almost 3 quarters of an inch san francisco officially now over half an inch. so that's adding some nice totals. now here's where we sit since the beginning of october. we're now at a 188% of normal at over 16 and a half inches in san francisco. so yeah, we get another 7 inches of rain will be for the entire average for the whole year. that is not that far away san jose over 6 and a half inches. that's a 148% of normal oakla

sure, i for now, crawford chief meteorologist lawrence karnow says it may not last for long. no, i think especially early on the commute could be very wet around the bay area. another cold front coming to town right now. we have that fog kind of lingering all day. it is lifted somewhat around the bay area. that's good news. but the storm clouds already gathering to our north. you see them 7 northwest getting the least the brunt of it now. but this it's going to be dropping in overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning. another cold front coming to town to bring another round of some rain at least early in the morning. i think by the afternoon we should be fairly dry outside right now. we've got plenty of low clouds and fog lingering in our skies. just kind of been one of those great days. we did have a dense fog advisory early on this morning. some of visibilities dropping down next to 0 and some spots. so a danger fog out there, but that's going to lift a little bit tonight as that cold front comes in and then we'll start to track some rain. in fact, overnight tonight, the

first chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here to talk about the conditions out there. you have a nice out there, guys. beautiful shot from the east bay hills. looking back >> toward the west, a beautiful sunset. again, some fog sneaking inside the bay. and we have some of that fog moving along the coastline this afternoon. temperatures today above the average in san francisco at 60 degrees actually slightly below the average oakland. 56 63, though, in san jose, 65 degrees above normal in lemore. 63 in concord and 65 degrees in santa rosa. that fog, though. yeah, i kind of moving in again along the coast as we're seeing a little bit of a sea breeze kicking in now. so we're going to see that as we head through the evening hours more that sea breeze carrying that fog along the coast and just inside the bay. and then as we head through the night tonight that we're going to see some nice weather ahead. it's going to little cool in spots but not bad 50's right now around most of the bay area. i think as we step out this evening, a plan grab a jacket. if you're headed outside

i was asking our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. you go into the game day forecast and he said you're either forecasts and older it there forecast? hey, if you're headed down there, if you're one of those lucky people have a ticket to go, it is going to be a beautiful in los angeles is windy out there tonight. if you're driving down, expect some winds. >> you're going down a 5 and you go over the grapevine. we're going to see some blustery conditions. all those those winds should begin to subside overnight tonight. i think for game day we're talking about mostly sunny skies. and what a beautiful afternoon it is going to be for football there. remember last week they were playing in the snow. this is a far cry from that kickoff temperatures near 70 degrees, mostly sunny and warm. just a gentle breeze on sunday, maybe 5 to 6 miles per hour. perfect game weather as we head into sunday outside right now. we've got a couple high clouds moving up above the sun has set. what was another day with temperatures running? well above the average

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is with us tonight. what you have out there? yeah. dry span of weather continues. grant. yeah, not temperature wise, but it's been very dry here since about the second week in january. and it's going to stay dry now for a little while longer here as we head through time. but temperature wise, 57 degrees right at the average in san francisco. actually cooler than normal in oakland, a 55 today. 59 in san jose, 60 in livermore. 59 in concord, 54 degrees and cool in santa rosa. kind of get the sense of what's going on in the atmosphere. you see these clouds kind of rotate over the top of that ridge. that's a signature of high pressure sitting out there in the pacific. that ridge is going to roll in toward the bay area overnight tonight and tomorrow. that means we're likely to see some northerly winds right now. a little bit of a sea breeze. see that on shore flow right now. bring some clouds and along the coastline. it's going or offshore overnight tonight and tomorrow. and that means little down when little drier air, it's going to seek.

let's check in with chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. for more on the conditions on the east coast still pretty miserable, lawrence. yeah, pretty a big storm rolling through a 10 inches of snow coming down. >> and then the problem was you can i-ninety-five there just north of richmond. and the problem was that some of that snow started to melt during the day and then reef roles. so that became. >> almost like a ice skating rink. and so all those cars that got stuck. it was hard to move around. but boy, there catch some clearing conditions now. but the cold temperatures there remain. and so that is an issue being stuck out there that long and freezing temperatures you run out of gas in your car and that could be a life threatening situation for some people. looks like the big storm, though, has gone through now it will continue to stay cold there. so hopefully they start to get the rest the people out of their meantime, though we are seeing some showers in far northern california. looks like things are going to change a bit coming our way

and our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by with that forecast. yeah, keep it dry. looks like some nice weather headed again. our way. a little hazy out there to looking out your skies. now you see some of these. >> looking down below from the berkeley hills, a doppler radar showing i think staying dry outside. we do have some high clouds moving up above again. but looks like we'll see some gusty winds overnight tonight. we'll see high pressure kind of build into the north and the east of us. and all of a sudden we start to see some blustery winds. you see the colors begin to fill into many of the north bay mountains. so over the peaks, there may be some 30, maybe some 40 mile an hour gusts. now, below the diablo range, the coastal hills also the oakland hills, likely going to see some gusty winds late tonight early tomorrow morning. not going to be blustery down below, but up above. you get above 1000 feet or so. you're likely to see those winds whipping around a bit. so looks like that will continue throughout the day tomorrow. it will be kind of one of those a bl

first chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here talking about the local weather really windy. yeah. i mean, it is really whipping around parts of the bay area today. still, thos strong gusty winds remain. >> clear. not skies pretty well. nice and clear the coastline, just some high clouds up above. >> beautiful sunset here in the bay area. but the winds and they are really kicking up outside 62 mile an hour gusts being reported in mount diablo snow 44 mile an hour gusts across the ridge there, oakland hills, 41 mile an hour gusts fairfield, right downtown. there. 38 miles an hour. 36 in the bottle and even san francisco checked in with a 25 mile an hour gust and you probably have some gusty weather in your neighborhoods as well. so overnight tonight, we're going to see that continuing. we've got advisories for when the mainly over the mountain tops now national weather service just dropped a for lower locations, but over the mountains to get the diablo range. oakland hills and the north bay, you've got a high wind warning. some of these gusts, maybe 50 60 miles an hour in parts of n

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by with more on these beautiful son says we've been experiencing boy, something else. got another this evening. the sunset at the 5.30, today. and you can see still some leftover colors out there. beautiful out there. >> as you see some high clouds up above off our coastline. going to see more of those clouds. i think tomorrow could even be a more spectacular sunset if you can believe that. the beautiful out there right now, that's for sure. temperatures are still pretty mild at this time. 63 in alameda, 61 degrees in here. we're cooling off now. 55 in palo alto. 54 in dublin. 52 now a little more. we've got some dry air overhead. so these temperatures going to drop off in a hurry as the sunset. but overall, we've got e that offshore wind that has kept the fog away. our skies dry as well as high pressure sits over head. but that wind continues to from the east toward the west. that means back toward the coastline and that is bringing with it that offshore flow. and that has brought the temperatures well into the 60's. many places above

so let's switch over to lawrence karnow and he can tell us what the latest says. so we know that there's some rain drops out there. yeah. is it going pick up. >> yeah. we're going to see more rain on and off throughout the night time there may be times we pick things up a little later tonight. and then maybe again on wednesday a bit. so here we go. first week of the new year. we're back to some soggy conditions, not real wet outside, but. it's enough out there that gets the windshield wiper going from time to time. a little damp in spots. so awesome place mountaintops a part of the north bay. some heavier amounts of rainfall. but most of area, just some lighter so far. but we're going to see some changes coming up our way as we head toward the next couple days. as looks like we're going to see more on the way as far as the rain begin to move in. let's see if we can switch over to our other weather computer right now. i'll show you a closer look at some of that rain moving into the right now. you see some of those showers popping up in around petaluma. also in san

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow tracking these winds. lawrence, is this unusual for this time of year? yeah, no, we get that especially in these dry spells. you get these as well. and that's what we're seeing now. we've got low pressure. >> off the coastline, the santa anas kick in in effect. we've got the watches and warnings all the way down to san diego in some of those winds are some of the mountains near san diego thing, maybe gusting 60 to 70 miles per hour there. so very blustery there. if you're headed down that way after drive up over the grapevine, be careful. you're running some very gusty winds. if you got a big vehicle, a truck, be careful. it's going to be blowing around out there on the roads here in the bay area. you see the winds around the bay area, not so bad, although as we head through the night tonight, that will begin to pick up see across the north. and also we're seeing those offshore winds. look at the colors begin to push off the coastline there. that is that offshore flow kicking in. and that is going to keep

kron. 4 meteorologist lawrence karnow is spent tracking the fire. and lawrence, it's pretty windy in that area. yeah, very coming across some of those mountain ridges there in the big sur area. and that's what we're looking at right now. some gust. >> 34 miles an hour near big sur. we don't have another observation site right where the fires at right now, that's near not leas landing. now that fire and the winds are burning back toward the coastline right now. so if you know, highway one there, this is a very remote area along the big sur coastline. but certainly there are some structures in and around that area and a very difficult terrain to fight fires in there. so you get winds like this. it makes it extremely dangerous for firefighters work. those kind of fires. but tonight they're not the only one seeing the winds. we're seeing the winds to all around the bay area. look at 31 mile an hour winds right now in the napa valley. 26 in petaluma. 24 a beach 20 in el granada along the coastline. so we've all been looking at some gusty winds and wind a

. >> chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is with us the days get pretty warm, lawrence. but overnight it's cold. you could feel it and it gets cold fast as that sun says that the air so dry outside you get these offshore winds and the temperatures really fall rapidly as you head through the evening. so here we are right now. your skies are mostly clear right now. temperatures. yeah, it's getting cold in spots. it's 42 degrees in half moon bay right now. 43 in little more actually warmer inside the bay then made the coastal sections right now with 40's and 50's even down to 39 right now in santa rosa. so we've got some cold temperatures popping up around the bay area and that's where we're going. we got that dry air, that offshore wind going to settle in tonight. mid 30's in the santa rosa, maybe someplace in around there even colder than that, possibly some patchy frost there, some of the interior valleys, east bay, also looking at 30's and then in and around the bay, a mixed bag of some 40's and even about 39 degrees in redwood city. so we have the on shore breeze today

kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow taking a look at what we have in store. yeah, dry weather ahead again, as we do a really wind down last weekend of january. and here we go. we've got clear skies out there around most of the bay area, the exception some high clouds off, loading up above. but boy, we've had the nice weather, those offshore winds and the temperatures. >> well, above the average for this time of year, 64 degrees. that's 6 degrees above the average in san francisco today. 64 in oakland, 68 almost 70 in downtown san jose today. 61 a little cooler in the live. more 63 in concord and 64 degrees in santa rosa. but temperatures all around the bay area have been running above the average. now you get that offshore wind. you get that dry air mixing in and you see those temperatures dropping off a hurry after the sun sets. and that's what we're seeing now. 43 degrees in little more down to 37 getting cold in fairfield. 41 in petaluma and 44 degrees in the napa valley and santa rosa, too. so a little cold in for us. just some high clouds moving through.

which is coming up and to kron four's, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. so 2022 is coming in looking like. >> little or yeah. a quieter little cold out there too loud tonight. if you are headed out to do a little reveling the temperatures are in the 30's in some parts of the bay area clear skies. the air is very dry now. so if you're headed out tonight. yeah. pack up all that warm weather gear and head on out temperatures dropping off in the 30's and the 40's as we head toward midnight tonight. tomorrow looks like it will be a nice day. it will be a dry day. at least. we'll still be a little bit on the cool side highs by the afternoon. only in the 50's, maybe a little bit warmer than what we had today, but not by much, but it will be dry and that should be a nice day temperatures around the bay area getting cold in spots 42 already in morgan hill. 46 now in san mateo, 39 degrees. now in livermore, 40 in dublin, 38 degrees. now in the napa valley get a little bit of a breeze and that picked up the temperatures a little bit in petaluma now at 4541 in santa

we're going to head from the surf to the sierra our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow, although was cute. yeah. how about california? it may be and why to sometimes. but hey, we've got that snow out there donner summit. of course, the roadways have opened up. >> you can ice things up overnight tonight. so some cold temperatures. so if you're traveling at night, you got to be careful going across the high country. of course, in early tomorrow morning. but just a ton of snow up there to ski on. but you one time it out if you're traveling up in the high country between the storms tomorrow looks like a good day friday. not so much. you can see that next storm system coming in. so if you're planning to sneak up for the weekend. you might want to try and get away tomorrow at some point and enjoy that nice snow on friday and then over the weekend should dry out and then more storms return as we head into our monday, although it doesn't look like much a chance we could see a few snowflakes returning the mountaintops a monday afternoon and then maybe another one coming in late on wednesday.

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has the all important weekend forecast. yeah, i see that sun come out this afternoon. we're going to see a lot more of it. >> over the weekend as high pressure takes over beautiful sight toward coit tower. last few nights we've been seeing that kind of socked and lost in the fog. but still some patchy fog likely to redevelop overnight. tonight, the rainfall. yeah, we're done with that for now. but still some ice totals out there. almost half an inch of mill valley or a 3rd of an inch in timber on napa. just 400 temperatures go almost a 10th of an inch of rain. lighter amounts in oakland and union city. but starting to wind down now, you can still see some remnants of some showers and some snow flakes fall over the sierra nevada of the storm system really just kind of fall apart. it left behind that moisture on the ground. so we're likely going to see some of that death to fog reform done. i think the winds are going to switch from more of a sea breeze right now to more of an offshore wind that will likely carry some of that

meteorologists lawrence karnow with us now. >> lawrence, this is yeah, we need the rain, but it's kind of a welcome change to see the sun. yeah, it's great to see that sunshine. kind of give us a break. was our chance to really >> see all the tributaries. the rivers kind a lower themselves just a bit from all that rain, then i think we'll get back into right now. it looks like a high pressure building in and it's going to be sticking around for quite some time. that ridge, yeah, just strong enough to bump the latest storm system a little further to the north. we are going to see some high clouds kind of trickle over the top of that ridge. but and that looks like it remains dry. here's the long-range forecast model. you see kind of that train of moisture. you see where it's headed up 7 northwest where they had just tremendous amounts of rain that all the way up in the going to send that further to the north as we head toward the next couple days while the bay area. yeah, just a couple clouds rolling on through otherwise staying dry. a few more clouds from a system coming up from the sou

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with the latest on this slide. yeah, it's going to be a weekend storm. i think all weekend long. it is just dropping out of the plains now and head further south. >> and you can bringing with it a lot of moisture. lot of cold air behind it is picking up some moisture up out of the south and the gulf of mexnco. so we're going to see this winter storm roll on through maybe 4, maybe 6 inches of snow going to be on the ground through parts of the plains all the way into the south. and that's going to continue to track all the way along toward the deep south and the eastern seaboard. they've got winter storm watches going up there. some warnings to watching out for not only snow there, but some freezing rain. it is going to be a messy, messy weekend. and i think when you see these storms, this colder dive, this are far south, the running all that warm air from the south as well. i think they could be talking about more severe weather. maybe some tornadoes as the system pushes through. so something to watch out for there

yeah, there's more action along the coast to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by with that. yeah, some thunder swayze moving in along the coastline right now. we've got some big-time swells as high as 22 foot high. those waves crashing along the coastline expected to last until at least tomorrow morning. but be careful going out there going surf and those waves are going to still stay large even though the should begin to recede throughout the day. storm clouds rolling in to the state. more rain around the bay area. more snow showers up in the sierra nevada right now. kind of quiet outside. you're going to see a couple sprinkles developing overnight tonight. it's tomorrow morning and every to catch a little bit of a break. high pressure showing signs that flattening out a bit. again, as you've got another frontal system roll over the top of that. remember, we had all that rain, though, in the middle of december. high pressure is all building all the way up toward the gulf of alaska. but now the sus tormes kind of flopping over the top. so they're not coming in full force. k

all right, lawrence karnow standing by was a more more. boy was in awe to see that the massive from talking. of course they can affect our weather too. they inject a lot of sulfur dioxide that cuts in upper levels of the atmosphere. this one to about 19 miles or so in the atmosphere and that can block out the sunlight. so if you get ructions that can actually cool down the plan. they believe that happened during the medieval warm period. the 1402 about the 1800's not too long ago out there. tonight, we're seeing some hazy conditions around the bay area have some partly cloudy skies. of course, we've had high pressure overhead kind of a stagnant atmosphere developing. we've seen that to really since after the first week in january and qualities been suffering. we've seen that haze just about each and every day makes for some beautiful colors. well for the sunrise and the sunset. but really moderate amounts of clouds building up in the north bay, the east bay in the south bay again for tomorrow. still looking good along the coastline. lori f

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by with more numerous delays at sfo of an hour as we had. >> a lot of that rain coming in. some gusty winds 2 things have since this afternoon. now. no delays being reported at sfo oakland or san jose, but still very wet out there as we've got the storm system coming through now bringing some light rain around much of the bay area. and i say that parts of bay area still seeing a pretty good soaking just been con son. so you've got place like canfield. have seen tremendous amounts of rain already. here's your storm system. mostly to the north of us. seeing a lot of that kind of running into the bay area right now. just kind of picking up as it approached the coastline kind of gets lifted by the mountains and then all of a sudden you start to squeeze out some more significant rain along the coastal sections for the most part. but everybody seeing a little bit of a rain here and there again. see that coming down into san francisco most that light. but constant into the afternoon stretching across the bay in a place like oakland and hayward in

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow always tracking the rain joins us now with more lawrence, a little more rain coming overnight tonight. nothing going to be to head into this law system. pretty impressive. >> for really kind of a low level system coming through the bay area. now leftover remnants of that rain leaving behind some dense fog around the bay area. tonight. we'll see more of that into early tomorrow morning or last 24 hours, though, another 3 inches of rain fell in canfield on the mountaintops in parts of moore and they had as much as 4 plus inches. almost an inch of rain in san anselmo. petaluma almost a half an inch of rain richmond 3 quarters of an inch of rain nap. almost 3 quarters in san francisco just over half an inch of rain. so a very impressive, in fact, how about san francisco so far for this season. the day we're looking at a 188% of normal over 16 inches of rain normal for the entire season is about 23 inches of rain in san jose over 6 and half inches of rain. that's a 148% of normal. but check out oakland. 211% of normal at over 15 inches of rain center rose

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is with us. so much rain the past several weeks. lawrence, a as you look ahead, what you see. yes, seen a few more storms coming our way. i think. >> january may begin to improve a little bit as we head down the road. but right now more storms kind of lined up outside tonight. all that leftover moisture from those raindrops giving way to some fog. so we're going to see some thick fog developing, but the long range looks a little bit different now as we're going to see the pattern kind of shift a bit right now, high pressure going to build in tomorrow. looks like a nice day. it's going to be nice dry day. but you can already see what setting up off the coastline. and here we go. that drops in as we head in toward friday morning, probably for the commute early on friday drive by the afternoon and then as we get the weekend looks mostly dry as high pressure whole long. but you can already see that next system up the coastline. maybe bringing a few sprinkles. that's really just a slight chance of showers come monday. another chance will

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has been tracking that storm and joins us with a closer look. thousands without power to now and that storm system rolling on through over the last 24 hours. really. >> bring with it a whole lot of inches worth of some spots. 8, 9 inches of snow. you see it rolling through washington. >> finally headed out into the atlantic quieting down there. now they got plenty more to come of that was the first major one for the season back out west. we go. we've got that snow that's piling up in the sierra nevada. a lot of snow making its way in through a parts of the south lake tahoe area. we're going to see more of that may be afoot, maybe a foot and a half across some of the higher peaks. the bay area still looking at that rainfall outside and it's been pretty constant starting this afternoon. it is just been coming down in the san francisco-marin. also a good part of the north bay. the east bay, too. so we're starting to add up on some impressive totals. here's the long-range forecast for you, though, as we get through this storm system, kind of the tra

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by with that. yeah. get a break from the rain but seeing the results of the rain now is that fog? >> kind of settling in now getting thick in spots. you see it out toward the golden gate and the valleys already starting to see some of that ground fog forming as well going to see that thicken up overnight tonight and it's tomorrow morning. a storm clouds kind of parting a bit is cloudy almost all day long. we had a couple of sunny breaks outside after a few showers this morning. but things drying up. for the most part. you see most that rain up in pacific northwest of the fog and the other. it is kind of settling in now for the night to see a bit of an offshore wind developing and that's where we start to see some that real dense fog develop into the delta into the central valley. watch out for that. that is going to be very overnight tonight. it's tomorrow morning. shift got to travel. i 80 in the central valley and then down the i 5 got to watch out. you're going to be looking at some very dense fog int

. >> chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with us. lawrence, another nice warm dry. yeah, you yeah. here we go. yeah. another one and looks like another spectacular sunset out there for tonight. look at the colors out there. already is the sun 5.18, in san francisco tonight. a couple clouds up above. we've got some patchy fog down below. but overnight tonight we'll see a little bit of a change in the atmosphere. high pressure going to start to build in. we're going to start to talk about an offshore wind. so these high clouds start to come from the north number last week. all those high clouds are coming up on the south. so the pattern has changed a little bit. still could be dealing with some fog, especially in the early morning hours. some of that ground fog tomorrow morning. but you see some patchy fog. this is a defection fog moving in along the coastline overnight tonight, get a whole nother type of fog. it is that ground fog that to leave fog developing in the valleys and possibly pushing back into the bay temperatures outside mainly in the 50's all around the

. >> lawrence karnow here to talk about that. the snow whether its goodness ever it just keeps coming. good news is you have the roadways are wide open. we have some dangerous cold up there. some of those temperatures overnight lows dropping below 0, if you can believe that this maybe another storm system. you can see the camera kind of shaking around in the wind. this could easily take down some more power lines are going to get some gusty winds and you get some more snow. maybe another foot foot and half of snow across some of the higher peaks there. western slopes of the sierra nevada. looking at another a winter weather advisory as we're seeing another storm system roll in the snow levels have been rising, though, with started out fairly low at about 1500 feet now at about 3,000 feet or so. but that will continue to rise as a warmer storm system. kind of moves in. but we're not done. we've got this one coming through now you see the rain in the bay area too, as we head toward tomorrow. it may be some lingering showers, especi

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here for mentioned the winds, lawrence, you don't see anything there clearly. but, you know, just today taking the kids to school. it was just ripping out that yeah. and some spots really just howling out there. but the sunset you're right on friday, they look a little bit better, don't they? and the rest of the week. but out there tonight, a gorgeous shot. this we've cleared out your skies. those winds have really been howling in parts of the bay area today, especially over the mountain top, some very gusty winds. now they had a gust of 62 miles an hour. snow ridge. 44 miles an hour, the oakland hills, 41 miles an hour in fairfield downtown. 38 miles an hour nevado 36 miles an hour. even in the san francisco. some 25 mile an hour blustery out there. now. it's going to stay that way overnight. tonight >> a high wind advisory has been posted for much of the bay area. high wind warning for some extremely strong winds. parts of the north bay are in napa and sonoma counties. we could see some gusts in excess of 50, 60 miles an hour. maybe even occasi

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here now. he's tracking the storm's path and has the latest mark. yeah, this could be a real mess. all that cold air working its way down from the great lakes just beginning to approach the coastline. right now, we're just seeing this form system really put itself together. so it's going to move off the coastline. the around and it's going to spend all this moisture back in along the coast. in fact, here's the latest forecast model. and you kind of get the sense that low sell the swirl around here. that will be the center of low. but you see all that wrap around moisture coming around that storm that's going to dump tremendous amounts of snow. >> along the coastline, blizzard conditions warnings are up now in places like boston continue to stretch all along parts of the northeastern seaboard. as we're going to see those strong gusty winds, maybe 70, maybe 75 mile an hour gust near the coastline. likely going to see some coastal erosion. some coastal flooding. and then as pam mentioned, maybe 20

let's check in with lawrence karnow. yeah. if you want to head on out to, you're going to see dry conditions around the bay area tonight. looking good. >> out there in right now, just some high clouds up above. no delays reported at sfo, oakland or san jose. at this hour, looking good into v% the monterey bay. you are going to see a lot of cloud cover from that area of low pressure approaching the coastline for tomorrow. so don't expected to be fully sunny, but the temperatures not bad at all about selena 68 degrees. 65 degrees in monterey and 65 in southern california. there's a slight chance you could see a couple of scattered showers not going to be much but on those temperatures will be cooler in the 60's. there. and in the high country, of course, lots of snow on the slopes and some nice temperatures go along with that pretty comfortable for this time of year. 45 in southlake. 44 in truckee and 49 degrees in reno. we plan on sticking around the high country looking good as we're not expecting any major storms over the wee
