chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. it's all about perspective, lawrence. yeah, you know, we've got a long way to go. we had all that rain in the beginning the season that kind of tailed off and then. >> really gangbusters as we went into december lot of rain, but things have dried out again. and this is pretty common. these midseason dry spells are just part of our climate here in the bay area that usually lasts on average about 19 days and they happen between december and january. really, right in the heart of the wet season. almost giving you like a fake spring. the longest dry spell on record was 56 days. if you can believe over a month, almost 2 months back in 2014 2015, the shortest back in the 50's. that was only 8 days, hopefully we'll get this dry spell over with. here's long-range forecast models coming from noaa and the shows you the areas california here that united states, you see california in the brown here that with below normal precipitation chances for in the forecast until about the end of this month. and that's what i'm seeing on long ra

meteorologists lawrence karnow with us now. >> and lawrence, we were pleading for rain for many, many months and we got it. yeah. hold on. do too much more likely off the pedal just a little bit of yeah. this is another impressive little system. this one kind of different, though. this one coming in with a lot of low level moisture out there. now we're left with some fog out there. all that moisture on the surface there. and now we're seeing some true dense fog out there around the bay area. but look at the amounts. >> canfield almost 3 inches of rain from this last storm system all almost an inch almost half an inch in petaluma richmond 3 quarters of an inch napa, almost 3 quarters of an inch san francisco officially now over half an inch. so that's adding some nice totals. now here's where we sit since the beginning of october. we're now at a 188% of normal at over 16 and a half inches in san francisco. so yeah, we get another 7 inches of rain will be for the entire average for the whole year. that is not that far away san jose over 6 and a half inches. that's a 148% of normal oakla

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is with us tonight. what you have out there? yeah. dry span of weather continues. grant. yeah, not temperature wise, but it's been very dry here since about the second week in january. and it's going to stay dry now for a little while longer here as we head through time. but temperature wise, 57 degrees right at the average in san francisco. actually cooler than normal in oakland, a 55 today. 59 in san jose, 60 in livermore. 59 in concord, 54 degrees and cool in santa rosa. kind of get the sense of what's going on in the atmosphere. you see these clouds kind of rotate over the top of that ridge. that's a signature of high pressure sitting out there in the pacific. that ridge is going to roll in toward the bay area overnight tonight and tomorrow. that means we're likely to see some northerly winds right now. a little bit of a sea breeze. see that on shore flow right now. bring some clouds and along the coastline. it's going or offshore overnight tonight and tomorrow. and that means little down when little drier air, it's going to seek.
