but for now in the east bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> san jose may become the first city in the nation to require gun insurance. mayor sam liccardo and other leaders gathered in support of that ordinance today. every household with a gun owner would be required to have liability insurance coverage and pay an annual fee. supporters hope insurance companies will provide incentives to gun owners to take safety classes and use gun safes and trigger locks. the san jose city council is set to vote on this measure tomorrow in antioch. the city council is expected to formalize and ordinance which puts more restrictions on guns inside homes. the ordinance would require gun owners to store their firearms in a locked container or disable them with a safety device in their home. california already has a law making it illegal to store a loaded firearm in a home. but this new ordinance was specifically require guns be locked up or disabled. the ordinance will be read and is expected to likely be approved at the antipch city council meeting tomorrow night at 7 o'clock. >> about 4, a 300 fi

kron four's charles clifford has details. >> santa clara county health officer doctor sara cody says she expects that in the near future the supply of at-home antigen chest will increase. but until then, she's offering some advice on when and when not to use the tests that are currently available. first, she suggests only using at-home test. if you already know you have covid-19. those tests are best used to, quote, test out early from isolation. so if you already know you have covid and you're just wondering i no longer infectious i no longer a a risk to others. an antigen test is the best test to use their. she says the more accurate pcr tests which often require an appointment and take several days to get the results are best used. if you suspect you may have been exposed, those tests can detect even trace amounts of the coronavirus doctor. cody is also asking that people not go directly to hospitals to get tested. please do not use emergency rooms as testing centers. >> emergency rooms are there for people who require emergency care. as for when the testing supply crunch will eas

but for now in the south bay, charles clifford kron 4 news. >> in the east bay. the oakland unified school district district is saying almost 1000 students and staff tested positive for covid before classes. resumed after winter break. the district gave out about 41,000 home covid tests kits to students and families just before the break began. and in a statement district officials say although some students or staff may have been on campus monday before learning of their positive test result. they're confident they avoided potential exposures in an overwhelming majority of the reported cases. also in the east bay the west contra costa unified school district will soon begin requiring staff members to wear medical grade kn 95 masks while they're at work. the new requirement starts on monday. and the district says this is just one of several steps. it is taking to keep students and staff safe. the district has ordered enough mask for each employee to have one mask per week through the end of the year. and happening tomorrow free rapid covid tests will be available
