across south—west england, wales and also northern ireland. and here is where we are likely to see the highest temperatures. still cool, particularly so across the north east of scotland where we have got a north easterly colder wind. now, as we head into the evening and overnight, that band of rain continues to push northwards as it hits the cold air across the highlands and the grampians, we'll see some fresh snow above 300 metres, potentially as much as ten centimetres falling at that kind of height. at lower levels, there may well be some snow flurries. there is also the risk of ice here and also the chance of a frost. but push further south across the rest of the uk, it will be fairly cloudy, some patchy mist and fog forming as well. so first thing on christmas eve, we've got this decaying front producing some snow flurries, we'll see some of those in the northern isles as well, a lot of cloud around, limited brightness, and then this next weather front brings rain across northern ireland, wales and south—west england. and the wind star

well, that rain's going to be heavier, particularly swinging across northern ireland, northern england, into parts of scotland as well. very mild in the south, 13 degrees, but we're starting to get some colder air spreading into the far north of the uk. and for christmas eve, we'll continue to have those kind of temperature contrasts. another weather front, this one concentrating rain across northern ireland, wales and the south—west of england, still with mild air here. further north, we've got those chillier conditions with wintry showers beginning to spread in across the northern isles. and for saturday, which of course is christmas day, we're going to have this battle zone somewhere across the uk. now, this is not set in stone. it could move a little bit further southwards perhaps over the next few days. for the north of the uk, we may well see a few snow showers, that is a possibility. the south—west more likely to see cloudy skies, grey conditions, rain and mild weather. and there's a small chance we could see something a little bit more disruptive, but itjust depends where t

some heavier rain for northern ireland. then we see this shorter, sharper burst of rain sweeping eastwards across england and wales, driven by some quite strong wind once again. temperatures really won't drop an awful lot overnight. another very mild night. except in the far north of scotland, where we have clearer skies. the rain soon clears away from east anglia and the south—east tomorrow morning. for many parts of the country it will brighten up, a little bit of sunshine perhaps. we still have some rain across central and southern scotland, northern ireland for a while in the far north of england. it tends to ease off, but these areas look like staying quite cloudy. still on the cooler side across northern parts of scotland. elsewhere, those temperatures 13, 16 or even 17 degrees to the south—east and east anglia. if you are heading into the new year, you could see a bit of rain moving across northern and western parts. many places will be dry, but we are strengthening southerly wind as we head into new year's day,
