[applause] >> hi, julie. hi everyone. thank you so much for coming tonight. let's get started. we used to work together at the miami herald. but i am not sure that everyone knows her very well and there is quite a bit in this book that i learned about her. why don't we start by learning a little bit about you. where you from, how did you grow up? how did you end up in journalism. >> thank you all for coming, by the way. it is good to be back in person at the book fair. i grew up in a tiny town called sellersville. and, you know, my mother was a single mom with three children. needless to say, we struggled quite a bit. i think that it instilled in me some of the things that my mother went through. i remember one time came home and all of the furniture was gone from the house because my mother could not pay utility bills. just, you know, injustice that i felt she suffered instilled in me at such a young age that i wanted to do something about it. that kind of led me into writing writing
