i'm catherine heenan. we are coming off a very violent weekend across the bay area. we'll take a look at the map mobs of robbers hit high and stores and san francisco in the east bay in the south bay. it began friday night when a group of people looted the louis vote on union square store running out with arm loads of merchandise, some of them or stop police managed to stop one of the getaway cars. they arrested 8 people saturday night. 80 people swarmed a nordstrom store in walnut creek. 80 people at once. police say store employees were assaulted. they were pepper sprayed some stores at broadway plaza are now considering closing early or taking other safety precautions and we have video of a smash-and-grab robbery that happened in the hayward yesterday. a viewer shared this video of the incident. this is inside the southland mall. you can see a group of people. running out of sam's jewelry store and it is the 4th jewelry store robbery in the bay area this month. kron four's rob nesbitt is following up on this story. we'll have more on kron 4 news at 5 o'clock. plea

i'm catherine heenan graham has night off. so let's straight to ckawford chief meteorologist lawrence karnow to give us some details. yeah, this storm is going to rock tonight. i mean, this is going to get really going, i think through the a lot of part of the evening hours. so here we go. get ready. another storm. >> about to move into the bay area starting to see those clouds out there now. you bet. still some light showers being picked up on our doppler radar but not much in the real way of rain just yet and not a whole lot of wind. now as we head through the evening, the storm will really begin to intensify starting out the north bay. but there you go. just off the coastline, you can see that band of moisture putting itself together and just behind this. you've got a nice area of low pressure on the backside right there. and that is going to help drive the storm through the bay area bringing with it some much needed rain and well, it's going to be heavy at most of the rain so far are in the light shower category right now.

heenan is here to explain it all for us. catherine. yeah. boy, they've got a lot on their plates. congress has no votes this week. >> that is despite the fact the government runs out of money. next friday. >> and could hit its debt ceiling soon afterwards. democrats have been celebrating the bipartisan infrastructure deal. the house passed social spending bill, but there are big challenges ahead. congress has until december 3rd to pass a government spending bill. and until mid december to raise the nation's debt limit that would that will avoid disruptions to key government services like paying servicemembers, social security checks, although not everybody is ready to automatically raise the limit. i'm concerned about something like. >> raising the debt ceiling for anything that looks like the build back better plan. so the debt ceiling is going to have to be raised. >> but the democrats are going to have to raise that they're going find a way to get raised. >> meantime, the president's social spending bill build back better

and i'm catherine heenan up amore's off tonight. >> americans are dying from drug overdoses at a record breaking right. new data from the cdc show about a 100,000 americans died of drug overdoses in the 12 month period. ending in april. that's up almost 30% from the year before. experts believe the top reasons are the growing prevalence of fentanyl in the illegal drug supply and the covid-19 pandemic which left many drug users isolated and unable to get help. san francisco's chief medical examiner says that from january to september of this year. >> 511 people have died from drug overdoses slightly down from 2021 535 overdose deaths were recorded by the end of september. so what or who is to blame for the epidemic of overdoses and how can we make things better. that, of course, depends on who you ask. kron four's grant lotus joining us now with more this really unsettling trend it's horrifying really. and it used to be an epidemic that affected largely the middle part of the country that the eastern. >> half of the country. ohio famously has been ravaged by this. but during the pandemic

and i'm catherine heenan in for pam moore. >> parents in the east bay are very upset after learning their children were given the wrong dose of the covid vaccine. the mixup happened over the weekend at a center health vaccination clinic in antioch, sutter health confirms 14 children received the incorrect pediatric dose. in a written statement center health says the parents, quote, received vaccines with an incorrect amount up to as soon as we learned of this, we contacted the parents and by 7 of cdc guidance in this situation. the safety of our patients is our top priority and we immediately reviewed our processes to make sure help make sure this doesn't happen again, though, getting the wrong dose may sound alarming infectious disease expert peter chin hong a doctor ucf s ucsf says this is not the first time that children have been given a dose this size of the pfizer vaccine. >> clean with kids. you just want to give the smallest dose. god can give you the same immune response. and that's why 10 was chosen. but they also looked at member. again, this could have been the dose that they
