let's get right to our chief legal analyst dan abrams tonight. dan, the reactions to this trial, as polarized as the country is, people have had very strong reactions on both sides of the case. was there any one thing that you can point to that could have been a turning point for the jury? >> i think it was the videos of the incidents. in a typical case like this, when the defendant takes the witness stand, it all comes down to that person's credibility, but here the jurors could evaluate for themselves what happened. they actually asked in the jury deliberation process to see those videos again. and i think that made all the difference here. remember, they were not deciding here, who do they believe more. they were deciding a very specific legal question -- do they think that the prosecutors proved beyond a reasonable doubt that it wasn't self-defense? and i think those videos made a big difference. >> dan abrams and terry moran with us tonight. dan, our thanks to you as well. >>> now to the other major headline breaking a short time ago. tonigh

. >> you have taken aim at stacey abrams. in the current struggle about the integrity for elections and the struggle for everyone entitled to vote in the way unimpeded. it strikes me that youabrams ar side of that. >> no, not in the least. if you look at what stacey abrams did, she lost the state of georgia by 55,000 votes. she questioned the legitimacy of the election. she set the table along with the leaders that supported her in her big lie. she set the table for president trump to ramp it up and take it to the next level. voter suppression and voter fraud. both sides of the coin. stolen election claims undermine. both parties need to look at what they have done on the left and right and say we are not going to do that anymore. we will fight hard to win the elections, but when we lose, lose honorably. >> you cannot draw a parallel that stacey abrams saying voter suppressed and president trump saying find votes that were not cast in my favor. >> there was no voter suppression. we had 4 million people show up for the governo

also, i think stacey abrams did a great job of getting the vote out. she lost the election. so is hillary clinton for that matter. if you want to get changes made in the election system, you don't just say everything was great, that nothing was wrong, because that will not motivate people. guest: could i jump in and give a couple of quick answers question mark they say that anybody who questions the 2020 election results is pushing the big lie. but when hillary clinton in 2016 refused to accept the results and said donald trump only won because of collusion with russia, which just last week was shown to be a completely false flag, that big lie was not called a big lie. no one called hillary clinton out. stacey abrams literally in the last couple of weeks pushed this false claim that she won the race in georgia and is the true governor of georgia. nobody said it was a big lie when she said that. now you go forward to it happened in the 2020 election. these people deserve great political credit in a non-moral sense for doing what they could to push the envelope. what they did

they don't want to talk about stacey abrams but she set the table for 2020. she lost in 2018 by 55,000 votes. talk about that. -- i talk about that. she lost by the 5000 votes and she said were it not for voters set -- suppression. we had record turnout. people have plenty of opportunities to vote. they had, at that time, 16 days plus sunday voting in all of the major metropolitan areas. wendy of opportunities to vote and also election day. roll that forward to 2020 and we heard the other narrative about voter fraud. neither of them were supported by the facts. we pushed back on lawsuits from stacey abrams and we pushed back on trump. judges look for facts. they don't look for allegations that are not supported by facts. host: i want to ask you about the criminal prosecution that might be possibly coming in georgia, the headline from the new york times saying a grand jury in georgia looms in trump inquiry as the house committee investigates the january 6 capital riots -- capitol riots. an atlanta district attorney is moving toward convening a special grand ju

let's get right to abc's chief legal analyst dan abrams. and dan, two of the defendants, greg mcmichael and william bryan, were not found guilty of the most serious charge, malice murder. but travis mcmichael was. could you explain those differences between the verdicts? >> yeah, the jurors basically assigned slightly different blame to the different defendants. travis mcmichael not only chased down ahmaud arbery, but he also was the one who shot and killed him. he was convicted of all the charges including the highest, malice murder. greg mcmichael, his dad, who was involved in chasing down arbery, came armed but didn't end up shooting him, was not convicted of that single count of malice murder, but of all the rest, including all the felony murder changes. and william bryan, the friend who was behind them, convicted of all the felony murder charges except for one, because apparently the jurors didn't believe that he was specifically responsible for an aggravated assault involving the shotgun. >> and dan, the legal issues are not over for

stacey abrams still hasn't conceded her loss. and it really undermine's voter confidence on both sides of the aisle. we need to push back on that with the truth and with facts. at the end of the day, what really t counts is integrity because whens people run with integrity, people run the elections with integrity, the system is up with integrity up and down the line and people can have confidence in the system. i'll make those difficult choices. an easy choice, but it was uncomfortable because of all the pressure that came to bear. those were the facts. >> so let me ask you about what's happening yhere, for example. i should say that the republican, glenn youngkin, has said he willha accept whatever e outcome of the race is. he has amassed 304 paid and unpaid attorneys. they're expecting thousands of volunteer poll watchers. is that democracy in action or is that something that is new and is concerning? i >> well, we've seen that -- stacey abrams' team had all of their election day lawyers for years and finally the republicans ha

i do want to make sure people are aware that stacey abrams did acknowledge her loss. that is something that she did do in the aftermath of the election. let me ask but what happened in washington, the republican voting rights bill. you tweeted yesterday that the bill would, quote, undermine the security of our elections. you have become -- listen, you have a national profile now, sir, because you have spoken up against interference in the elections as it relates to your interactions with former president trump. how do you square that now with a bill that's intended to safeguard exactly that? those elections? >> well, the bill actually, the federal bill would actually not do that because you'd have same-day registration which would create chaos for the county election officials when people come up to register during the day. and also in effect what it does is it just does away with photo i.d., you sign an affidavit that says that's who you are. photo i.d. has been show it does not decrease any turnout, any demographic group. that it actually then helps shore up voter c
