joining me is the ceo, robin menscher. thank you for being here to talk about this. let's begin by asking how did your organization even get involved this this effort and so quickly, too? >> well, thank you so much, gd evening. we actually have been involved in refugee resettlement since our founding in 1877 when a group of women from oakland, california came together to bring newcomers to our community. and since then, we've operated as a refugee resettlement agency, working with whatever community or population is in need at the time. we've been working with afghan refugees since about 2008. >> oh, so you're not new to this. you've done afghan refugees before. what is the process of getting someone out of afghanistan, especially now that the taliban has established rule again and bringing them here to the bay area? >> right, so refugee resettlement in general is a 90-day process by which we meet the newcomers at the airport here in the bay area, and we bring them to their new home to start their lives anew. to their new, furnished home and completely-stocked space.
