next week will mark six months sibs the world watched in horror as americans violently stormed the citadel of our democracy to stop congress from carrying out its constitutional duty. over the last six months you have been laser focused on doing whatever it takes to get to the bottom and deliver the truth to the american people. you met with republicans more than halfway in an effort to stand up in a bipartisan independent commission. the reason i say that is i participated in negotiating what was to be negotiated and you did a good job. i thought from the standpoint, it should have been approved. we passed it in the house. but we could not get the senate to do likewise. so we have come to where we are today. your choice of this select committee and the approval by the house in doing so and the membership behind me, we'll do our job. we'll do it according to the oath we took as members of congress. but more importantly, we have to get to the bottom of finding out all the things that went wrong on january 6. i look forward to working with the members of the select committee, both democrat a

starting this month, we are going to begin relocation flights for afghanistan sib applicants and their families who choose to leave. we have a point person in the white house and the state department led task force coordinating these efforts. but our message to those women and men is clear. there is a home for you in the united states, if you so choose, and we will stand with you just as you stood with us. when i made the decision to end the u.s. military involvement in afghanistan, i judged it was not in the national interest of the united states of america to continue fighting this war indefinitely. i made the decision with clear eyes. i am briefed daily on the battlefield updates. for those who argued we should stay six more months or one more year, i asked them to consider the lessons of recent history. in 2011, the nato allies and partners agreed we would end our combat mission in 2014. in 2014, some argued one more year, so we kept fighting. we kept taking casualties. in 2015, the same, and on and on. nearly 20 years of experience has shown us that the current security situation

chairman, ranking member wagner and members of the sib committee. thanks for having me today. i'm honored to be before you. i'm the vp at the bank policy institute, a non-public partisan policy research and advocacy group. i appreciate the efforts to help reduce racial inequality. banks must be a part of the solution if there's to be real improvements and outcomes for all communities, especially communities of color many of whom have been left behind economically. today, however, our focus is on banks' efforts to reduce inequality in black communities and how they are leveraging business models, networks and resources to better serve them. i work directly with a group of executives responsible for this agenda at the banks and can share that this has been a time of purposeful action. banks have decided strategies, agreed upon budgets, allocated resources and built teams to execute on this agenda. investments have been made. partnerships have been cemented and product innovation is ongoing and fill ant spy continuing. more than $50 billion has been committed. more than $1 billio

they don't know really who-what the political affiliations are of the people who are vac sib nateed or not vaccinated. they use polls which notorious for under counting republicans because republican voters don't trust polsters. and so, they use those polls then to go after republican voters and then they look at the are number completely illogical. the blue states were hit the hardest. of course you are going to have people there who are the most scared who perceive the highest risk who will go and get vaccinated you see the demographics of the you do know and see the people vaccine hesitant are young people because they know the risk factor for them getting covid is very low. for them getting sick, and the higher up the chain you go, the older you are, the more likely you tore vaccinate. and the one outlier there is in the black and hispanic community. and that at the tonally is because of a mistrust of public health authorities. you know, people have good reason for why they choose not to vaccinate. and maybe there does need to be some sort of, you know, extra education to help peop

her husband was not vak sib ated either. >> what was it about the vaccine that concerned you? that made you not want to get it? >> just that it had not been around long. you said oh, i know, that -- this is the government just trying to fill our bodies with stuff and, you know, and, you know, they're trying to push the shot on us. >> but earlier this month, her husband got covid-19. then it spread to her and their four kids living at home. including their youngest who is just 6. soon she was struggling to breathe. so they rushed her to the hospital. >> i remember being very desperate, grabbing the mask. and feeling, you know, the oxygen come in. >> she spent nine days in the hospital. six of them in the icu. >> and those moments when you can't breenl like that, even with all the oxygen they were giving me, it feels like you have a ziploc bag over your head and somebody is holding it. and, i mean, i had oxygen on. i was still feeling that way. >> at 43, did you ever think that you would get that sick from covid-19? >> no. 100%. i had conversations with my husband and said we pr
