this is bloomberg. ♪ emily: i'm emily chang live in west texas where jeff rizzo's -- jeff bezos has achieved a victory of historic or portions, launching and landing a rocket carrying humans for the first time. this was a journey 21 years in the making. many blue origin employees worked very hard over all those years to make this dream a reality. one of them was tim ellis who worked at blue origin for several years, then went on to found his own company. tim ellis, ceo of relativity joining us now to reflect on what we saw here today. i am so curious for you as a blue origin employee, former blue origin employee who knows so much about what went on the behind the scenes. what was it like for you to watch this today? >> it was a pretty awesome moment. i first started as an intern at blue origin. i interned three times back to back to back. the whole company was only about 150 people at the time. because of the small size, i have kept in touch. even came out to visit us not too long ago at relativity. i have been a huge fan ever since i left. it really is amazing not just to see blue origin fl

i heard a joke people are calling it the jet, so many people named jeff have left. jeff blackburn, another senior executive whether that's because stock price has gone up so high and enormously wealthy or is it that they see it's become a big unmanageable company in the bureaucracy of fear? or this is a hypothetical where they disappointed in the tabloid media from 2019 and lost a bit of faith? i don't know but we have to acknowledge the old-timers at amazon are largely moving aside that will be a challenge for the company because it is a difficult and weird company to navigate and there are a lot of newcomers in positions of influence so that will be interesting. >> one of the figures affect transition is park, the new retail ceo place jeff wilkie this year end you get into him a lot in the book, how would you describe him? he kind of comes off as a hfiercely competitive, not afrd to throw people under the bus, best man at his wedding got demoted. >> that's right.ed [laughter] someone mentioned to me they thought it wasn't a very flattering portrait of and i sort o

but let's go back to another clip of jeff bezos. this is jeff bezos talking about infrastructure. i want to turn to the news conference where he called the flight a small step toward building a road to space. >> you can tell when you're on to something. this is an important -- we are going to build a road to space so our kids and their kids can build a future. we need to do that. we need to do that to solve the problems here on earth. this is not about escaping earth. we are going to build an infrastructure -- when i started amazon, i did not have to build the postal service or royal mail, there were people -- already gigantic road infrastructure to deliver packages. that infrastructe today is way too expensive and doesn't work for space. amy: peter ward, to say he's been to this money -- he is making the point he built amazon on the roads that existed, the mail system that existed and yet what taxes does he pay? this is really a public-funded flight, the amount of millions that he saved in not paying taxes. >> it is pretty outrageous. when he is talking about the road to space, a

jeff: great to be here. alix: what i am really interested in is the difference between the public enp's in the u.s. that still talk about producer discipline no matter the oil price and the private market, which seems to be going gangbusters. you are the guys on the ground, basically. we continue to see discipline in public enp's and all steam ahead for private guys? jeff: i think we will see opportunistic behavior by private operators, no question about that. they have the ability to move quickly and take advantage of a supportive oil price, which we expect will continue. public operators have been very balanced and very disciplined, and i believe they will stay that way. i think they will stay that way into the future, but a better commodity price will allow them to stay disciplined and meet their expectations of their shareholders while growing modestly. this type of sustainable growth is what is best i think for us as halliburton and for the industry, but that sustainable growth allows us to build capita

emily: the first person to have jeff bezos -- hug jeff bezos was his mother. she had two sons on the flight. as a mom, i sympathize. we got to go with him to the landing pad. we saw where the rocket touched down. they key is reusability. that rocket is ready to go back. i said, when are you going next? he said tomorrow. he was in a jubilant mood. i want to bring in ed ludlow who has been with us in van horn, texas. the big question is, what's next for blue? what is the road to space tourism? they said they've got more flights plant, what else? >> two flights for the rest of the year. this space tourism business is supply constrained. bob smith was saying over the weekend that there are willing and paying customers out there. the fourth seat was supposed to go to the auction winner, but we are told there were others bitting in the region of $20 million. we are trying to go about how they will go about pricing this. two more missions, six paying customers, the constraint is that they only have a couple of boosters able to do this. remember, jeff was candid in th

jeff bezos is as a determined as they come. you could say lots of people said since they were a kid they would like to be an astronaut. no, since his high schooler. he said the future of this plan et relies on man, not being on earth. we need a backup plan. he manifested that. what's really interesting is, yes, how did he do all this? because of amazon. amazon made him the richest man in the world. but amazon is not his passion. space is. what was interesting when i said to him, space has always been your passion, now is it going to be your life's work, he said without a doubt. there was no mention of amazon. there was no mention of e-commerce, retail. and he set his mind to change ing the retail business and one of the three of us right now probably has an amazon in front of our front doors. he changed retail. he could be in a moment where he changes space. >> a couple amazon boxes. steph, first of all, just to see the two brothers interacting for all of us that has a kid brother, that dynamic is so genuine. i loved your quest
