while trump is a huge part of that, voters here really do love trump. there are also some really practical considerations for voting republican that you don't really see in a lot of other states. energy is a huge factor here. actually, the biggest headline in the last couple months has been more on federal gas leases on federal land as opposed to the cheney thing. that's also kind of a bit of a political side show here. but it really is a major position here in the state's politics, especially now that we have probably the most credible challenge to an incumbent we've seen in a really long time. >> it's interesting, nick, when you look at the washington leadership, the washington representatives that wyoming has sent, they're certainly conservative, but they all have that pragmatic streak, right, whether it's an alan simpson or a dick cheney back in the day or liz cheney, john barasso, cynthia loomis. there is this tension that you've got to bring stuff back to the state. so i guess i'm curious. how would you divide the party up as voters? is it half an

so, trump should not be prosecuted. remember, barr said they didn't rely on this prohibition on a president being prosecuted while he is sitting in office. he said actually, we decided that the justice department, i decided on consultation with attorneys that none of those things describe constituted crime that's why trump won't be charged. that's the story they told the public. that apparently is not what happened. federal judge amy bernard jackson ruling today that the supposed advice that william barr got from the justice department, that's supposed to lead him to conclude that these weren't crimes, and therefore trump shouldn't be criminally charged, she ruled today that that advice to william barr, has to be released to the public. the justice department under william barr had repelled that. people filed requests for, it oh oversight group called crew had filed a lawsuit seeking that document. the justice department had demurred, said no, we are not gonna release that document because that is real legal advice we d

guest: i think there was a significant trump -- drag from trump on republicans down ticket. colorado was actually fairly close in 2016. i believe it was four or five points that hillary clinton won, it was 15 for biden. we saw that filter down to down ballot to congressional races. you're right that colorado is getting a district. it is interesting that this will be the first cycle there were redistricting commissions for the congressional districts in the state legislature. there is a ymca coalition amendment that passed and those are being implemented so it is kind of new, wide-open territory in terms of what could happen. the districts are going to have to change somewhat because there is going to be an additional seats there. until we get the lines, it is hard to ultimately handicap who is going to -- which party stands to gain more over the other. host: how about you come back and we will reassess everything? guest: we will have it instantly. as long as we know the candidates. the district lines are a first step. host: nathan >> sees bands washington journal -- c-span's

you covered the trump administration extensively, john. how bad could this get for trump? >> look, there's good reason for them to be concerned because the events that have gotten rudy giuliani in trouble are not just some random dealings by the former new york city mayor with a random country of ukraine. this is all an extension of the interference in our elections by russia that began in 2016 when donald trump hired a putin-aligned campaign manager who had worked in ukraine, for a ukrainian leader. he worked with a russian intelligence agent. the treasury department told us that a couple of weeks ago, konstantin kilimnik. and russia sided with donald trump in the election. big investigation about that. robert mueller couldn't -- didn't find sufficient evidence of a conspiracy. he did find some evidence that donald trump tried to cover it up. you get to 2020. russia is trying to interfere again. how? well, russia was trying to shield itself from responsibility for having interfered the first time, spread the misinformation that ukraine was involved. at the same time that

it may be coming hours before we see trump and his family members and the trump -- the trump cohorts writ large start spinning this almost immediately into politics, witch hunt, we've already heard that phrase used with the state attorney general's announcement. you're going to say, you know, you're going to hear him say, they're after me. it's only politics. but i also think fairly quickly, you're going to start seeing a strategy of, it's weisselberg's fault. and that's what prosecutors are going to be telling weisselberg, which is, hey, you're going to be the fall guy, you know? do you understand, all of them are going to point their fingers at you, plead ignorance. you recall the recent reporting where ivanka trump was deposed in washington, d.c., on the inauguration case, and she pretended she could barely remember who allen weisselberg is. that's the strategy we're going to see here. it's all weisselberg's fault. it's all a witch hunt. and it's going to be -- it's all politics. >> i mean, that seems like a foolish strategy in that clearly none of them got any money for any of th
