i'm james freeman filling in for gerry baker. your federal government is still not ready to declare an end to the emergency. each though the seven-day average of covid hospital admissions has fallen nearly 80% since the january peak. average daily deaths are down more than 85%, and cases have fallen by almost 90%. on the bright side, dr. fauci is finally and grudgingly admitting that fully vaccinated people don't really need to wear masks. this followed some prodding from kentucky senator and physician dr. rand paul who reviewed the checkered history of dr. fauci's mask guidance since the dawn of the pandemic in early 2020. >> from the very beginning, dr. fauci has shown himself to be someone that is sometimes honest about his lying. in the initial stages, he said masks don't work, don't buy them, but he was really telling you that because he didn't want you to buy the n95 masks which they used in the hospital, he was afraid there wouldn't be enough for doctors and nurses. then he said all masks work, and that wasn't true either.
