georgia governor brian kemp joins us now. we've been talking about this bill, governor. yesterday they were making it crystal clear the myths about this bill are not true and i have to ask how did your office let this spiral so out of control that this misperception has been allowed to persist? >> well, dana, thanks for having me on and i hope you won't blame our office for playing into the narrative that the mainstream media is doing because a lot of political activists, one of them my former opponent. when the president of the united states says something you know a lot of people pay attention. but what joe biden needs to do is look at the side-by-side of georgia and delaware. trying to get major league baseball to pull the game out of georgia, which is ridiculous. if you look at these comparisons, the state of delaware has no in-person early voting. we have 17 days. in georgia you don't have to have an excuse to get an absentee ballot by mail. in delaware you do. we have drop boxes, delaware does not. if you want to get a bottle of water while you are standing in line

that election, there was another election going on for governor, the former secretary of state brian kemp was running against stacey abrams. and that election ended with brian kemp the elected governor but with some controversy about the election results just as secretary raffensperger was taking office. and then of course all the controversies that people know before the 2020 presidential election in the state of georgia and the role of the secretary in those controversies. so welcome, secretary raffensperger. what i would really like to do is to begin with your piece and plug your piece, because i think people should read it. he's written a new piece for "national affairs," a journal that has an aei association. that piece just came out in the spring 2021 issue. it's entitled "the assault on trust in our elections." and i won't give it all away, but it does look of course at issues relating to the 2020 election and trust and belief in the election results but it also begins in 2018 with the election that i just discussed, with stacey abrams and brian kemp. in fact i think the one phrase

kemp and others misjudging the mood right now? >> i think both sides are. stacey abrams and joe biden were not on the same page on a boycott, a consequential and dramatic act with ripple down unintended consequences that are going to affect small business minority owners and people that they want to protect. that messaging was a mistake. corporations, why didn't they get involved before the bills were passed, why after? and look at republicans and brian kemp is sensing opening there, so feeling this is a good position to be in as someone trying to run for governor next year with a target on his back from donald trump. he's appealing to republicans in his state and some at any point voters who think this is wrong thing to do, to boycott -- boycott's effect in the end, like i said workers, that's a false choice and bad move. so taking advantage of the division within the democratic party. on the other hand, on the republican side, i don't think -- i think they're trying to roar very loudly, including governor abbott because this is the culture war of the mome

. >> meantime, in georgia, republican governor brian kemp is continuing to rail on what he says is a misunderstanding of his newly-signed georgia voting law. cnn's natasha chen joining me now. what did the governor have to say? >> reporter: fred, governor kemp held yet another press conference to defend this voting law that was recently passed. he said the narrative by some democrats calling this jim crow on steroids was false and he said that's a big lie on steroids. now, this law has been criticized for may being it harder for minorities to vote, especially in urban areas, but governor kemp's point here today was that mlb's decision to pull the all-star game out of georgia has disproportionately hurt minorities and minority-owned businesses. here's what he said. >> these are the same minority businesses that are now being impacted by another decision that is by no fault of their own. and it's being moved to a city -- or from a city and a metro area that is 51% african-american, to a city that is 10% african-american. so who is getting screwed in this? it is the little guy and it's
