we see the fog in the north bay as well. over to you. >> yeah, we can see that low visibility in the north bay. but, also, what you can't see are the temperatures and how cold it is this morning. right now we're seeing a lot of these numbers dropping down to the mid-30s and i wouldn't be surprised if a few spots got to freezing this morning. we're feeling that in the south county, but then as we go into the rest of today, spots like santa rosa will go from right near freezing. we're at 33 right now. we'll go to the upper 60s and see sunshine with a milder day, compared to what we're starting with. as we take a look at what's going on around big sur, we've been keeping an eye on what's called the colorado fire. this still burning, but we are getting more containment. looking at the weather conditions in that area, it's now 47 degrees. it's chilly, humidity is coming up and the winds are a lot lighter compared to when this fire first started. hopefully that containment will continue. some of that smoke is and we're going to se

it's very focused through the north bay. the rest of the bay area is doing okay when it comes to the fog. forecasted highs for today, we are going to get afternoon sun. it's not going to be as cloudy as it was in some spots yesterday, and our daytime highs are going to be a little cooler up to the north bay, but very similar down through the south bay. 62 degrees in san jose, 60 degrees in concord. 58 degrees in oakland, 57 in san francisco, and 59 degrees in napa. your air quality outlook, we're going to remain moderate for the most part. i did see a bump in the north bay to 82. this stays within the frame of moderate between 51 and 100 for the air quality index. we should be okay there as well as the long range outlook, that dry pattern still continues, but heading into tonight and into tomorrow, we are expecting to see some of that wind start to kick up, especially for the higher elevation areas in the mountains. so by sunday, that high pressure continues to dominate. it rolls back in in strength. over the next seven days

north 680 at concord avenue. contra costa county, easy drive. low visibility in the north bay. we were talking about a north bay closure as well, looking toward the tennessee street crossing. it joins the georgia street over-crossing. that's the rest of your commute, absoluting -- including the san mateo bridge. >>> scary moments for a man in palo alto who chased off car thieves from his home. the confrontation happened around midnight saturday on south court. police say the suspects were also seen on talisman court. a man shot at officers and he noticed several people shining flashlights. when he went outside, he caught a man next to his own car in the driveway. he chased the suspects to a dark suv and that's when a bullet was fired at the ground in front of him. say neighbors say they're worried about the rise in crime. >> it's pretty surprising. if car break-ins can happen, what's next? it could be breaking in-houses and stuff. that's scary. >> this is a look at the suv that the thieves were seen in. police say there could be as many as six people involved. >>> for the first

especially around the inner bay, east bay valleys and north bay valleys with morning temperatures in the upper 40s. san jose southward, more 60s. mid 50s, cooler around napa and fairfield tomorrow afternoon. storm ranger not finding a lot other than a few sprinkles across the higher mountaintops in the north bay. a lot more moisture offshore that by late tomorrow evening may bring sprinkles across the bay area. just after sunset around mount hamilton. the main event with this friday storm, this is not looking all that strong, will be on friday morning, 7:00 a.m., north bay, san francisco. by lunch, or just before lunch, it's moving out of the south bay. it's moving through more quickly. doesn't have a lot of moisture. you will notice the rain expectations have come down considerably. less than a tenth of an inch of rain south of san francisco. even the north bay, probably a quarter inch of rain out that storm. that might be it for a while. friday may be it. high pressure builds back across california. that's going to weaken storms on approach which leads to a drier seven-day forecast

vianey called out the fog in the north bay. that's where that yellow is along highway 37 out of novato and over possibly to napa. the visibility's coming down just a bit. the drivers are doing fine. no slowing through contra costa county, the early drive leaving that county towards alameda county, we're at speed, still about 18 minutes from byron toward 580. on the right you see slowing as 580, 205 merge and then it smooths out out of the altamont pass. we should see more traffic than yesterday. we take a live look outside and see our san jose camera, 280 coming toward us at 17, no major problems, and a nice flow of traffic on those live cams. throughout the south bay we expect to see some slowing for 101. perhaps we'll check on that, should be developing in the next few minutes. that will give us an idea for silicon valley. >>> next on "today in the bay," nbc bay area responds. >> the pandemic canceled her flight, so does that mean she loses the miles if she paid for if? no, but some of them are missing. i'm chris chmura, nbc

rain to the north of us, as we will see some of the showers hitting the north bay. i want to show you what it feels like as we are heading out the door. we are in the upper 30s in the tri-valley from dublin to livermore and morgan hill, but mostly 40s elsewhere. we will head for the mid-50s this afternoon. you can see the 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. we will have milder weather for the middle of the week. i wouldn't quite say warm, but it's going to be better. we will see the temperatures reaching 54 in dublin, and 55 today in san francisco. 54 today in sonoma. if we want to complain today and say it's cold, let me show you what is really cold, it's 8 degrees in sioux city, iowa. even dallas right now, 25 degrees. bitterly cold temperatures across much of the rest of the country. we are getting milder weather moving in, and also some rain. i think by late morning into early this afternoon, we will see mainly the north bay targeted for some of the moderate showers. we will also move down the peninsula as well. much of the rest of the bay area, we may s

and south bay at 40. we have more 30s as well through the east bay and the north bay. now, as we move through tomorrow, high pressure continues to keep the sun out for the afternoon and any kind of storm system off tot the north. so, continue drying for us. at the same time, we have this smaller system that is just going to dive right down this area of high pressure on the back side of it. and that's going to increase the wind. now, i don't think it's going to be anything close to what we had on friday and saturday morning. but we are going to see some of these isolated wind gusts. you are going to see here tomorrow morning in the north bay, 20 to 40 miles per hour. the gusts in the mountains, there is the key right there, lower elevations not too bad for that commute. then as we roll through the afternoon, that area expands through the north bay mountains and it would stay at 20 to 40 miles per hour. anywhere from 20 to 25 here through the east bay. also santa cruz mountains. after that, tomorrow night and wednesday, the wind will begin to calm down. so, very isolated

although this map shows 43 in the north bay we are in the 30s. much like new york city that 32 degrees right now, houston's at 55 degrees. denver, look at that, 37. 58 degrees right now in miami, phoenix 55. daytime highs for today are going to be very similar to yesterday, afternoon sunshine, a little bit of clouds to start our day. san jose 62 degrees, oakland 58, san francisco a high of 57, and your air quality outlook will remain moderate and usually remains between moderate and sometimes goes into the unhealthy air quality zone, at least some pockets of it because of high pressure. that is something that we're going to be looking out for in the upcoing days. cedar is going to be high, so is mold. grass is low. so since it is going to be so beautiful today and tomorrow, just keep that, you know, in the back of your mind as you head out. dry pattern continues. more wind is possible, so although we're not going to get any real rain over the next several days and really just through the end of january, it stays pretty dry. this high pressure reb

moving down to 45 down here for the south bay. san francisco at 48. and the north bay, 47. daytime highs also warming up with that wind pushing in. you can see in the south bay, we're going up to 68 in san jose. 69 in morgan hill. right through the east bay, we have upper 60s right there in antioch and concord. if you're out in the sun, it's going to feel like the low 70s tomorrow. certainly some springlike weather popping in here across the bay. 65 in redwood city. 64 in daly city. san francisco, we have 67 in downtown. that's going to make it a nice day, and 65 in the outer sunset. where the wind is the strongest we'll find the lowest humidity, down to 35% in the north bay. thankfully, we had that rain in december because that's what's keeping us out of a red flag fire warning tomorrow. on my seven-day forecast, we continue to stay dry with 50s to low 60s in san francisco. and i tell you, not too many differences for the inland valley temperatures. 65 on saturday, 63 on sunday. and those low 60s into next week. now, coming up at 6:00, we'll take a look at the drought and

>> yeah. >> carl went back to the north bay, too. let's see what is going on with that today. here's a look at our current visibility. quarter of a mile. right now carl hanging out over novato and moving towards napa and we are seeing that in santa rosa as well. we are clear over much of the bay area, and we start out with fog and turn our attention to the high winds today. some of the coastal ranges as well as heading up towards northern sonoma county. we will see some of the gusts and some of the upper elevations reaching up to 70 miles per hour later this evening. so high winds could bring down tree limbs and possibly give us power outages especially for people who live in the hills. we are going to stop it here. at about 230 this afternoon, we can see bright red color and dark purples will see the high winds. then as we go into the evening the winds will peak and we could see really gusty winds as we go into the night. it has been a while since we have had winds like this so it could cause issues with drowned trees once again, so you want to make sure you are preparing you

tomorrow morning, north bay, showers north of the golden gate. upper 40s to start the morning and highs tomorrow, san jose southward, we're talking 60s, and may feel a little muggy, at least by january standards in the south bay. upper 50s from san francisco to oakland and upper 50s from the north bay and tri-valley. here's the view on storm ranger, we talked about the north bay rain. healdsburg to santa rosa, moving from the northwest to southeast. you see this one-hour time lapse based on the current speed, it should reach the central bay area around the 6:00 hour, most of this dropping about a tenth of an inch of rain to a quarter-inch of rain in northwestern sonoma county. the focus should be mostly north of san francisco. the future test picking up a few showers for the morning. afternoon still partly cloudy. a bit more mild in san jose, so from midday wednesday through thursday, shower chances again move off to the north, and then they're going to drop back down on friday. now, this is the best chance. tri-valley, san jose, to get some rain

and to the north bay santa rosa, napa, low 50s here. the only issue with the forecast tomorrow is your allergies. pollen is definitely spiking especially tree pollen. cedar, ash, alder and elm all in the high categories. watch out for that otherwise i promise you we've got a good day coming our way. let's bring it to into that seven-day forecast. no big storms for the next seven days but did make some adjustments for some slight chances of showers we're watching out for sunday and monday. there's a system moving off to the south. there's only a 25% chance on sunday, beyond this we might get some better rain chances by the second week of february. temperatures here through the inland valleys not too much difference. we've got lots of 60s here as we move through the next seven days. morning temperatures in the 30s as well. good for some ice skating weather, jessica. so when are we going to do this? tomorrow morning? >> too early. >> some time next week. >> yeah, we'll put that in. maybe after the olympics. let's see how they do it. >> all

the north bay, the peninsula and the east bay as we track it on stormranger. we can see the showers that moved through the richmond area approaching concord, and also moving through fairfield and hayward we are dealing with some of the light showers. also in san francisco and moving down to san mateo as well as burlingame, and some other areas up and down the peninsula dealing with those showers as you are heading out on this tuesday morning. we are seeing some of the scattered showers that will continue. we will see some more rain, but take a look at the rainfall totals. we had in mount tam nearly four inches of rain in the past 24 hours. looking at scott skraebg in the santa cruz mountains, two inches of rain there, and we are approaching half an inch in san francisco and walnut creek, just a little lower, but san josÉ has not measured much of anything and seeing the same in the tri-valley. we will have mainly light rain and it will be on and off for some of the spots, and looking ahead we are going to see some additional rainfall over the next couple of da
