this is nbc bay area news tonight and i am jessica aguirre and we start with omicron. at this point you probably know somebody who has it or have it yourself. the omicron surge inescapable at this point. milpitas unified just made the decision to go back to virtual learning for the next ten days. the district says an exorbitant number of students and staff tested positive for covid this week and that moving learning online really means students can quarantine and come back healthy and everyone can stay safe. classes canceled for monday as well. the district made the move after nearly 20% of students were out sick this week. and oakland unified called off classes at schools today because of the teacher shortage, lots of absences blamed on a sick out that was planned by the teachers for today. we're going to go deeper on the impact of that sick out in just a few minutes. so let's talk omicron. when is this going to level off? there's a growing number of experts and doctors who think we may be getting close. prominent ucsf doctor bob walter predict we may see a peak in th
