the hayward unified district is going to remote learning for the weekend that began today. this is after 117 staff members tested positive for covid in just the past few days under staffing force that moved to online learning the district is planning to have students back for in-person teaching tuesday january 18th. school leaders are making an exception for families without while a wifi or child care. those students will go to physical campuses to continue virtual learning. but again, this is only in situations where it's absolutely absolutely necessary for a family if we implement virtual learning. >> we can't allow those staff who might be in quarantine might be awaiting test results to feel ok and choose to do the virtual learning from home that allows us to really increase the number of staff we have available for instruction for our students. np>> the district's public information officer says board members will regroup friday. they will decide whether students should come back to the classroom january 18 through weather. they should extend remote learning. this has b

so the hayward school district is voting right now whether to return to last year's distance-learning model on monday for all of next week, 507 students got covid 117 staff members tested positive in recent days. and many more are again in quarantine. they do have enough ppe for staff, but not for students. so kids and teens could be sent back home on monday where they would then log on to zoom and again, learn remotely. some district leaders think that these next 10 days will be helping to better manage the situation will have about 3 classes per day and a shortened school day overall. and this would be encouraged but not mandatory families would get an online document to opt into virtual learning. and those who do not want to participate in this way could have an option to have the students go to some location and then learned distance tubs. but those locations have not been announced just yet. >> we're suffering from staff shortages before we even went on winter break. and that situation has worsened as many of our employees need to stay home right now to quarantine him to get well
