students at hayward started off the week at home. hayward unified says staffing shortages caused by covid cases forced the move to have all students learn virtually through friday. students will return to in-person learning a week from tomorrow. and be on a minimum day schedule all next week. no lockdowns on the horizon based on california's hospitalization projection, governor newsom says there won't be more statewide restrictions or business shutdowns. he says 100% another lockdown and school closures are absolutely not on the table. as california struggles to manage the omicron surge. well, no lockdowns but more restrictions just into our newsroom because of the omicron variant. sonoma county is issuing new health orders forbidding large gatherings starting wednesday the health officer is canceling indoor gatherings with more than 50 people. outdoor events with more than a hundred people if the group cannot social distance. the new orders remain in effect until february 11. she is asking people to stay home as much as possible the

daytime highs in the 50s for san josÉ, and hayward, 57. oakland, 57 degrees. san francisco, 56. as far as how much rain we are going to get, well, ukiah could see about a quarter and everywhere else we are talking about a couple 100ths of an inch. if you live north you will get rain sooner and we have seen reports of drizzle. after we get this system that passes through, here's a closer look at what to expect. looking ahead into next week, we will see foggy nights and mornings, and then sunday night we get this system that moves in, and showers offshore and then more showers might be possible by the middle of the week. i also want to give you a closer look at the improvement we have seen so far in the drought monitor condition, here's a closer look. saw a nice boost there with the addition of all of the storms that we had. this is kind of sort of where we stand today versus last week, which is definitely a little bit of an improvement from extreme to severe and also more into the moderate category as well. over the next seven days, here's a closer look at what to expect, inland

we're headed for 64 degrees in santa rosa, 60 in hayward and 64 in san jose. los gatos reaching 59 degrees. mild temperatures, but also still staying dry as we look across the region. we are not seeing a whole lot of activity going on. all those storms staying out in the pacific. high pressure that's kept the storm track to the north and our weather dry will gradually start to move out of the way and that's going to open the door for rain to come in for early next week. it does look like finally, after such a dry january, we are looking at a wetter weather pattern for february, and that's, once again, what we need at this point after seeing extremely dry conditions. but in the near term we are looking dry. and, also, no snow for the sierra this week, but take a look at the forecast for next week. we could see potentially a couple of feet of snow, maybe even up to 3 feet, as we go toward the middle of next week. a lot of changes can happen between now and then, but i'm hoping this forecast holds that will bring us some rain and the sierras some snow. our temper

bay, lots of low 60s. 62 in morgan hill, and right across the east bay, 59 in antioch, and down to hayward, 60 degrees. the peninsula coming with 54. lots of that chill here through the peninsula. that will continue into san francisco. 54 downtown, and over to the mission, 56. light winds out of the west here at 8. for the north bay, 58 in santa rosa. napa, 59. mill valley, 58 degrees. on my 7-day forecast, what you will see is continued dry weather over the next several days and subtle day-to-day differences. not too many large temperature changes, and we could get more sunshine in here just to switch it up for us. across the inland valleys, the thing i want you to see here is once we hit friday's forecast, i am looking at wind coming in, friday night, 20 to 40-mile-per-hour wind gusts and that will continue into saturday morning as well. that would give us full on sunshine friday and saturday and dry through the next seven days. thankfully we had the rainfall in december or we would be looking at red flag fire conditions. again, we will watch for that friday night and saturday morning. >
