what's so disturbing about this is it was coming from inside the white house, from the white house chief of staff to mike pence's team, to his top aide. what do you make of the amount of pressure pence was under to overturn the election? >> well, no doubt he was under tremendous pressure to overturn this election, and i think, you know, incredible that he stood strong and did his duty and certified the election results as was the right thing to do. but knowing the dynamics here between the trump team and the mike pence office, this was something i've apparently seen firsthand before on how this sort of dynamic plays out. but i can imagine that the amount of bullying internally, the amount of intimidation, and when you're in a situation like this, it can be frightening, because you know that there can be consequences where people's lives potentially can be put at risk depending on the actions of these individuals. and we saw that play out before our very eyes on january 6. >> we did. a short time after president trump made his comments about the stop the steal rally, we saw rioters stormi

what are you hearing about that from the white house today? >> reporter: well, kate, no response from the white house tho to those comments from the chinese ministry of foreign affairs but senior officials saying they believe there was a healthy debate based on this long-standing relationship that president biden and xi jinping have had over more than a decade going back to president biden's time as vice president under president obama. we know that they discussed issues of disagreement such as trade issues, for example, human rights concerns that president biden raised as it relates to issues in hong kong and more. we also know that they discussed areas of potential cooperation like on the climate crisis, for example, facing the world, talking about the importance of collaboration on that front. but one thing that president biden made very clear, and this was during the beginning portion of this 3 1/2-hour meeting when reporters were allowed into the room here at the white house, president biden talking about the importance of making sure tha

, trump's daily schedule, white house visitor log, and call records. trump's lawyer justin clark arguing the requests are overly broad and failure to block them would open up the door for the partisanship of document requests and blowing a hole in executive privilege that should concern everybody. wh whoil the judge asked clark to dial down the rhetoric a bit she challenged lawyers on the house committee on the breadth of documents requested saying some of these requests seem very narrowly tailored but some are alarmingly broad. and there has to be some limit. the national archives says it intends to hand over the trump documents next friday unless the judge blocks them which she did not appear willing to do. this is such an historic case with implications for future presidents it is likely whatever decision the judge makes will be appealed. we also learned today that the committee has interviewed over 150 people so far in its investigation. >> thank you so much. let's talk to somebody who knows a little bit about executive privilege, john dean, white

we expect a vote in the house this week. nancy pelosi speaking right now before the white house. she is expected to bring that larger bill to the floor this week assuming the congressional budget office comes back with an estimate that shows this bill is essentially fully paid for, which is what the moderates like sinema and manchin have called for and the house moderates have called for. expect that bill if it comes this week to pass narrowly, if the numbers come back, and then the focus will be on those moderates like sinema and manchin. sinema is expected according to her democratic colleagues to vote for the package. where will someone like joe manchin come down. he did not answer when i asked if this should be delayed until next year, only saying they should continue to discuss this amid his concerns about inflation, so while they're getting this big victory here, still big questions about the timing, the substance, and ultimately how that larger bill will come out. more negotiations to come, and joe biden's party fall in line, that's the big question going forward. >> we he

so, bringing that average up and delivering more good news for this white house that is trying to dig its way out of this post-pandemic economy. something that president biden made clear in his remarks on the jobs report. not only tying it to that economic agenda that he is trying to get passed through capitol hill. but also, the america -- the american rescue plan that he pa passed earlier-this year. saying it is proof that is working and also proof the u.s. is picking its way out of the latest coronavirus surge. as white house officials saying they were confident it would bounce back and they are not over focusing on any one month in the jobs report. but looking at the broader picture. this jobs report also showed that the unemployment rate dropped to 4.6%. of course, that is from 4.8% but also much further from that 6% level we had been seeing previously. though, it did show the labor participation rate did not change much. it was essentially flat from september to october. that is a number that, of course, employers are watching closely. hoping that this is a number that picks up.

arlette saenz is at the white house. arlette, that number crunching could take up to a couple of weeks. how will the white house capitalize on that time? >> reporter: well, pamela, the white house is hoping to build off the momentum of passing that bipartisan infrastructure proposal to get that larger social safety net spending bill across the finish line. one of the issues at hand is that upcoming cbo report that moderate democrats have demanded. they want to see this nonpartisan analysis of the pay-fors for that larger spending package before they have a vote. now, they have agreed to have a vote no later than the week of november 15th. once it does pass the house, if it passes the house, it still needs to move on to the senate where senator joe manchin and others have said they want to see changes made to the bill. one of the things in the house bill he takes issue with are paid family leave. these are all issues that need to be ironed out over the course of the next several weeks. manchin has been a key holdout senat

that's something the white house backtracked on. is it on the table, using the national guard. >> you know, i think everything is on the table. we are literally going through our entire toolbox to decide what steps would be helpful. you know, i don't think it's something that we are seriously evaluating right now. but, listen, we are in touch with governors every day asking them how can we help you. and, you know, the national guard is a tool that we would consider if we thought it would be helpful. >> so gas prices not exactly in your purview. but you are the former governor of rhode island, so home heating prices certainly are. in the northeast, they are expecting very high prices this winter. again, what can be done? what power does the government have to step in and try to help here? >> yeah. as you say, this is not in my area. the secretary of energy is working this issue and monitoring it constantly. and, again, as you say, this is in the private sector. but i will say we will take similar actions as necessary in terms of part

what is the white house saying? i know the president has been tested almost on a daily basis to make sure he's not positive. >> the president was just tested yesterday to enter the united kingdom, that's a requirement even for the president of the united states to get a coronavirus test. he has gotten his booster shot so doesn't seem to be a big concern for the white house but we learned late last night jen psaki, the press secretary who did not come on this trip, the day before she said she was not coming on the trip and they sent her deputy in her place remained home because members of her household tested positive for krch and she took a test every day and yesterday tested positive for coronavirus. she was revealing it out of an abundance of transparency but not been around senior white house staff since wednesday, not seen the president in person since last tuesday. when they did they were outside and wearing a mask. we heard from several physicians who said it's unlikely she could have infected president biden.

does that apply to the white house? and is there some retooling that's needed over there at the white house much in the way you advised some >> well, if you recall, i said that about two weeks ago. and we have now passed this infrastructure bill that we were having some difficulty getting done. it required that all of us find common ground, give up some of our conflict. that's where the pride to develop will. are you willing to step outside of your comfort zone and accommodate others? we showed that willingness last week or week before last and passed the bill. we're going to sign it tomorrow. i think we'll continue to see that this coming week or next week when we pick up the build back better. so what i said a week and a half, two weeks ago will not apply today. >> you were so pivotal to then-candidate biden's race for the democratic nomination back in 2020. do you think he's going to run again in 2024? some of this speculation and consternation about whatever is going on behind the scenes at the white house seems to
