from the white house, it is 10 minutes. pres. biden: good afternoon. this week, millions of americans, including some of the people in this room, are likely to be hitting the road, reuniting with their loved ones in cities and towns all across america to celebrate thanksgiving. as they do, i want to take a moment to talk about the economy, both the progress we've made and the challenges that remain -- that we have to face. we've made historic progress over the last 10 months. unemployment is down to 4.6%, two years faster than everyone expected. when we started at this job, it was over 14%. wages are rising, disposable income is up, more people are starting small businesses than ever before, and our economy has created a record 5.6 million jobs since i became president on january 20th. there is a lot we can be proud of and a lot we can build on for the future, but we still face challenges in our economy. disruptions related to the pandemic have caused challenges in our supply chain, which have sparked concern about shortages and contributed to higher p

house and the west wing and the vice president's office. you can look in the windows there, the press comes down those stairs all the time. so she went and got a ladder and my school teacher wife, my professor got a ladder and the windows are 16 feet high with all of these panes. in every pane, she got the stuff that kids use to make posters in school, she put on a heart and it said, joe loves jill. she did it on all five, four windows across. so the press called and said would i do valentine's day on abc. i said ok, and i got on and we're getting ready to do the event and what happened was they had the lights out and we were knee to knee with the reporter who is asking the questions and she says, everybody says you and your wife have a great love affair going. i said i think so. and she looked at me, i jokingly said, but everybody knows that i love her more than she loves me and i swear to god, she looked at me and said, that's what everybody says. so, you know, they also serve only standard weight, folks, i want to thank not only you warr

it has been the house against the senate, congress against the white house. anytime you had that narrative, it can be embarrassing. it has been a particularly messy one because of the length of it. this week, the house -- nancy pelosi is wanting to bring this to the floor. there is no scheduled date, but the plan is to do it before they leave for the thanksgiving holiday. to do so, they had to get commitment from the moderates, who were holding out last week. moderate democrats said we need to see an official estimate from the budget office, which is typically a routine step on any piece of legislation that comes to the floor. in this case, they were ready to bypass that step. that is important. anyone provision might cost one thing. that is what they are waiting for from the ceo. moderates committed to voting on a bill this week. if they get additional information, they are giving that information. they seem to be on course to bring it to the floor. at the end of the day, what they want is to move beyond the process. biden's poll numbers are sinking. they wa

later this afternoon i will join president biden and other members of congress at the white house. the president will sign into law the largest investment in our nation's infrastructure since eisenhower administration. despite all odds he's done so with bipartisan support. we'll take on the challenging and past reconciliation bills and appropriations bills. when i return to the senate, you are will tell the other members of the senate what a privilege it has been, being a senator in the history of our country. will i tell them how humbled i am by the support i received from my fellow vermonters. having been on the ballot on vermont 24 times. actually between states attorney and senate, 24 times, general leakses. how proud i was to see my name on that ballot. i will tell my fellow senators i will not be on the ballot next year. will i not run for re-election. i wanted to announce that here at home just a few yards from where i grew up in montpelier. representing you and washington has been the greatest honor. i'm humbled and always will be by your support. i'm confident in what the

, senate and white house. there were some differences at the end, and we will deal with those as we go forward. we have different committee systems in the house than in the senate, so this will be reshaped in their committees, and at that point we will see where we need to reconcile, should we say, our differences. but at the end of the day we will have a great bill. do you want to speak to that? >> the fact of the matter is over the last few months, particularly in the last few weeks, we have been working with senators, not only senator manchin, but also with the chairs of the committees in the senate. i'll use two examples, one on the -- pricing. we have been getting representative sinema's input, and i believe the pricing provision that you see is it. i guess there could be changes, but i do not think that they are significant. the fact we have negotiated prices and savings, as the cbo showed, it means that this is a provision that saves money, and at the same time does a lot in terms of affordability for s

can you say how the white house will inform the public? i know it will take a couple of weeks for the administration to do that. why will it take a couple of weeks? is he not competent in that timeline -- confident in that timeline? he talked about the need for boosters. sec. psaki: let me start with the timeline. as an important piece for the american people to understand. we have a top-notch group of scientists across the country already set up to do this work. they are working in close coordination with scientists and medical experts around the world. you saw the coordination have been over the last couple of days. as soon as this variant popped up, it was coordinated around the world. credit to the south african leaders. we want to be transparent with the american people as we see any cases,. this could happen. we will be transparent with the public. let me go back to how this process works. there are medical experts who are primed to do the work around this. when you want to test a virus, you have to isolated and make sure it is a liv

looking forward the white house said that its focus is passing the legislation. what are other strategic steps or new steps the white house is going to take to try to address some of the concerns that were clearly raised by vote efers in virginia and new jersey and other states around the country or does it feel that passing those two are sufficient to make up some of it? karine: i think what the president was trying to say is voters were tired of the inaction they were seeing and want us to get things done. i think that's what he's trying to say. the president agrees which is why he has been calling for congress to vote on these pieces of his economic policy. but i do want to say one more thing is that, you know, we all know that no election determines the outcome of future elections. that the mid-terms will be determined by voters in 2020, in 2022 and this one election is determined by votes for the 2021. and the mid terms are still a year away. and a lot could happen over the next weeks and months which is what we're focused on. this is why we're trying to get

is the white house considering that end is there anything the white house is doing about this? sec. psaki: because of the rescue plan, we have cut childhood hunger in half over the last year. when we look at that build back better agenda passing, the impact it will have on lowering childcare and lowering eldercare, the cost of elder care, the cost of health care, these are all costs on families that impact what they are able to afford in their daily lives. certainly, impact on military families as a military family himself, the president and dr. biden, that is heartbreaking. they continue to fight to do more to nature that there are not hungry families, whether they are military or not in the country. in terms of the summit, i have no plans to preview. >> to help military families overcome having a hard time, but is there a difference in the senate version. sec. psaki: the senate version would basically have a housing allowance is income which allows access to a lot of things in low income families. they are no longer qualifying with the needs allowance or or the military families n

but if we believe with the white house has been telling us, th ey will make a decision. host: it is hard to read what the fed will do sometimes. any indication if he does pick brainard, how the fed would operate differently in terms of policy? guest: it is a real question about monetary policy. the general consensus among the democrats pushing for brainard is, you can have the interest rate and other monetary policy policies that you like from jay powell, she will continue those, but you can also get more aggressive with financial regulation. that is the argument from the democrats who support her. one of the arguments from liberals i talked to that support jay powell is she is a question mark, we do not know how fast she will raise interest rates. and she might have a different thought about things than chair powell does. the wildcard in this is inflation is currently running at a much higher pace than the fed thought it would, largely because of the delta variant, resurges that nobody in the federal world would have that would affect the economy as it has. that's a hea
