discussions on a variety of matters at the white house. mark murray is joining us as well. if you are here, i'd love to see your face. there you are. your reaction to what we're learning today? this is batch number two in two days from the january 6th select committee. does it indicate the pace is picking up at all as we get closer to the end of the year year? >> absolutely, hallie, from last summer there was a trickle of news and activity that was coming from the january 6th committee, but i just want to emphasize a point that leigh ann was making to you and you were talking about just the proximity to all this latest batch of subpoenas to the former president. one of the biggest mysteries that we still don't have information on is what was in the president's mind, what was he saying and doing? we end up seeing the tweets on january 6th in the aftermath. we've heard reporting from news outlets what the president was thinking or doing but nothing that's actually been sworn testimony, and so many other components of january 6th, the people

we're following that breaking news from the white house. president biden addressing the nation this hour after a second meeting with his covid response team in just two days. highlighting the urgency the administration is feeling to learn everything they can about the concerning new coronavirus variant omicron with confirmed cases already at our northern aborter in ontario, canada. there are still a number of things we don't know about this variant with the white house releasing a statement sunday saying dr. fauci believes it will take up to two weeks to get answers on omicron's transmissibility, severity and other characteristics. the big question for nearly 200 million fully vaccinated americans, will their vaccine hold up against this new strain. fauci this morning urging eligible americans to not let fears over omicron's impact stop them from getting their booster shots. >> i would strongly suggest you get boosted now and not wait for the next iteration of it, which we might not even need, we're preparing -- the pharmaceutical companies

this is obviously a former white house chief of staff. what do you make of the legal advice he apparently is getting? >> i'm sure that his legal advice is very sound, but it's also the legal advice that he's asking for. because it's clear that meadows doesn't want to testify, wants to find a way to avoid testifying and perhaps jon's book provides the key to that, because it may well be that mark meadows has testimony he would have to give if he were truthful that he simply cannot afford to give because it portrays him in just too negative of a light in a central figure in putting forward the insurrection. if not, the plot to try to avoid certifying the biden election. meadows has a choice to make here. he may well decide he's so protected by the white house that he's ready to run the risk of noncompliance with the congressional subpoena. the problem that he has,s and coverage covers him, even though the conduct he's decided on is a campaign of serious privilege may not cloak him. trump is a former president, he's not the current president

later, the white house had to walk that back. that's just the president's personal opinion, he wasn't trying to steer doj in any certain direction. but of course they're pleased to see this. there was the fear that congress would lose their place as a coequal part of the government. and now, the charges for bannon, which they believe are good, not just to get to the bottom of what happened on january 6th, but also to send the message that this can't happen again. bannon has embraced this. he seems to be willing to be a maga martyr, and perhaps willing to face prosecution and even prison time. but it's not clear that others in the trump orbit will do the same. now, the sights are on mark meadows who realizes he could face similar charges if he does not cooperate. >> dan, let's talk about mark meadows. what should the legal advice be that a guy like mark madows is receiving right about now? >> the legal advice is, you have to show up. there's no excuse for not showing up. recently, a district court dealt with this in the mcgahn cas

house, meant she and the white house were totally simpatico with what was going on on this bill. overnight, "the washington post" published an interview with sinema who said there are changes in the house version that were not in the framework with what she agreed to with the president. sinema, more so than manchin has been deliberate about not speaking about her concerns in public. it's possible she's just referring to the paid leave provision, which i already talked about. if she has other issues, particularly on the taxing side here, we're getting really touch and go here about making sure this bill is anything approaching fully paid for, and that could be problematic for democrats, too. the provisions around state and local tax deductions are one area we know the senate is talking about making changes. i'm watching for all of thes those issues to bubble up over the month of december when the senate is working on this. >> what are we hearing from the white house? obviously joe biden has a long relationship with joe manchin, he certainly has not been shy about giving face time

trump white house records. u.s. judge tanya chuck is denying trump's request to block access to those documents. judge decided an earlier court ruling on subpoenas writing that the president is not king and added, the plaintiff's not president. national archives, as you know, is set to turn over the first batch of trump's records to this house select committee investigating the insurrection, riding at the capitol. they are expected to do that by this friday. they are almost by definition, all things that trump doesn't want the committee to see. trump has filed an appeal tonight to the d.c. circuit court, that didn't take long. this case is likely to end up at the supreme court. today, the house committee issued even more subpoenas to trump allies. this latest round of requests for documents and testimonies comes just a day after they targeted six other trump allies. today subpoenas went up to ten former trump administration officials including some of the most prominent members of his inner circle. former press secr

>> are we trusting the white house? i trust the white house to be accurate in its assessment. in addition, cbo score funded infrastructure bill actually adds to our overall deficit. it doesn't take away from it the way the build back better act does. and we've passed hundreds of bills. hundreds out of the house without the cbo score, and finally, there are lobbyists who are trying to gut and kill the build back better act. so to your point of delayed tactic, we will see if it stays where it is right now, 1.75, or if it continues to be gutted. remember, it came to us at $3.5 trillion. we worked it in the house at $3.5 trillion, and then it started to be cut because fossil fuel companies and pharmaceutical companies don't want to be held accountable. the build back better act makes sure all the things get done as we move toward a more equitable democracy. >> congressman, i'm sure you saw earlier this week senator manchin expressed some real concerns about inflation, the new inflation numbers. the highest in some 30 years. essentially signaling he is skeptical about passing anoth

this time there's no pardon from a president that ejected bannon from the white house. it's very important to understand exactly why bannon is in this criminal hot water right now. you may have seen headlines he's doing trump's bidding, but let's look at the actual new indictment that shows trump was only, quote, requesting bannon not disclose privileged information, while bannon's later lawyer said bannon would not be producing documents or testifying at all. let me explain what that means in play english. even steve bannon's lawyers admit they are doing more defiance than donald trump is asking for right now. that is a terrible legal strategy, because, and adam schiff and others have talked about this -- where there might be some debatable thing about a privilege issue or a scope issue, how much is congress asking for? lawyers can meet and talk about it. it can take a long time. you don't get indicted in the middle of that negotiation. right now bannon went further than trump, and said he won't cooperate at all, which is what the doj now says is the crime. add to that
