trump white house records. u.s. judge tanya chuck is denying trump's request to block access to those documents. judge decided an earlier court ruling on subpoenas writing that the president is not king and added, the plaintiff's not president. national archives, as you know, is set to turn over the first batch of trump's records to this house select committee investigating the insurrection, riding at the capitol. they are expected to do that by this friday. they are almost by definition, all things that trump doesn't want the committee to see. trump has filed an appeal tonight to the d.c. circuit court, that didn't take long. this case is likely to end up at the supreme court. today, the house committee issued even more subpoenas to trump allies. this latest round of requests for documents and testimonies comes just a day after they targeted six other trump allies. today subpoenas went up to ten former trump administration officials including some of the most prominent members of his inner circle. former press secr

according to white house causing the inflation. >> the white house is doing a lot of what it can. to get inflation under control. measures to unclog supply chains sp ports. raw materials and the like. the problem is that all of us the tools are only a limited use. one thing we could do is wait time and be patient. no one has a lot of patience. the federal reserve steps can take that could also better control inflation. that's a decision the fed will make. in the meantime the other thing you have heard from the white house is a deeper understanding of and conveying they understand the pain that inflation is causing. they are no longer predicting it will turn on a dime down to a low level tomorrow. it's probably not. it will be with us for some time. do what they can and be honest and realistic about the out look. and the federal reserve it is the government agency tasked with managing inflation. it's probably some additional steps to take. >> is this a problem of democrats own doing? as i mention you have the "washington post" poll and you eluded to it. that indicate 58% support th

this is obviously a former white house chief of staff. what do you make of the legal advice he apparently is getting? >> i'm sure that his legal advice is very sound, but it's also the legal advice that he's asking for. because it's clear that meadows doesn't want to testify, wants to find a way to avoid testifying and perhaps jon's book provides the key to that, because it may well be that mark meadows has testimony he would have to give if he were truthful that he simply cannot afford to give because it portrays him in just too negative of a light in a central figure in putting forward the insurrection. if not, the plot to try to avoid certifying the biden election. meadows has a choice to make here. he may well decide he's so protected by the white house that he's ready to run the risk of noncompliance with the congressional subpoena. the problem that he has,s and coverage covers him, even though the conduct he's decided on is a campaign of serious privilege may not cloak him. trump is a former president, he's not the current president

any sense, i keep asking the folks to cover this white house, of how the biden white house is reacting to today's development for one, and how closely they are covering the committee activities? >> sure, publicly they're not saying a whole lot, because they want to have a fire wall between the white house and the department of justice. as you recall, a few weeks ago, biden was asked on the white house south lawn what he thought should happen to steve bannon, he suggested they should be criminally prosecuted. later the white house had to walk that back, that was just a presidents personal opinion, he certainly wasn't trying to steer the doj anywhere. -- of course, they are pleased to see those, because there is real fear here that congress would almost lose her ability as a critical branch of government, if they don't have any teeth, that's why they're pleased that bannon got cited. and now the department of justice follows through on these charges. which they believe is good, not to get to the bottom of what happened on january six, but half send a message to others that this can't hap

this time there's no pardon from a president that ejected bannon from the white house. it's very important to understand exactly why bannon is in this criminal hot water right now. you may have seen headlines he's doing trump's bidding, but let's look at the actual new indictment that shows trump was only, quote, requesting bannon not disclose privileged information, while bannon's later lawyer said bannon would not be producing documents or testifying at all. let me explain what that means in play english. even steve bannon's lawyers admit they are doing more defiance than donald trump is asking for right now. that is a terrible legal strategy, because, and adam schiff and others have talked about this -- where there might be some debatable thing about a privilege issue or a scope issue, how much is congress asking for? lawyers can meet and talk about it. it can take a long time. you don't get indicted in the middle of that negotiation. right now bannon went further than trump, and said he won't cooperate at all, which is what the doj now says is the crime. add to that

how is the white house viewing this today? >> you get a sense of the urgency within the white house around this new variant. it's really the most heightened alert we have seen from this administration since the previous administration. since the early days of the pandemic here inside the white house. the president, of course, as you mentioned, saying this is concern, not panic. saying he does not predict there are going to be lockdowns like we saw last year if people are vaccinated, and he added a new bit to this. if they wear their masks. calling on people to again wear masks indoors, in crowded settings. not putting a caveat as to whether or not you're vaccinated or whether infections are low in your area, telling people broadly to wear masks which comes as we've seen a lot of cities, municipalities, school districts starting to lift their mandates in recent days. i will add one other thing here. the president using this moment to urge people to get boosters. we have been hearing for folks now the administration urging peopl

discussions on a variety of matters at the white house. mark murray is joining us as well. if you are here, i'd love to see your face. there you are. your reaction to what we're learning today? this is batch number two in two days from the january 6th select committee. does it indicate the pace is picking up at all as we get closer to the end of the year year? >> absolutely, hallie, from last summer there was a trickle of news and activity that was coming from the january 6th committee, but i just want to emphasize a point that leigh ann was making to you and you were talking about just the proximity to all this latest batch of subpoenas to the former president. one of the biggest mysteries that we still don't have information on is what was in the president's mind, what was he saying and doing? we end up seeing the tweets on january 6th in the aftermath. we've heard reporting from news outlets what the president was thinking or doing but nothing that's actually been sworn testimony, and so many other components of january 6th, the people

so why did you want to be at the white house yesterday? why is this important for your constituents? >> well, i'm in a very purple city, but most importantly i'm in a nonpartisan form of government, which really frees us to do what's right. this infrastructure package looks just like the kind of package that mayors have fought for for a decade or more. we wanted roads and bridges money. we wanted public transit dollars, passenger rail, all the things you're showing there on the screen. we've wanted that for a very long time. that's a need that cuts across party lines. here in oklahoma city, as in most cities, we do that every day. we work together, republicans and democrats, to get things done. i'm so glad that on a national level we could finally do that here for something this important. >> mayor whaley, as a democrat, you are in my home state of ohio. currently has a republican governor. you're running for governor. what was it for you about this infrastructure bill and what it will mean for your constituents that made you say i'm going

what's interesting is there is a choice the white house could make. essentially all of their current problems that they're trying to deal with in this country, inflation, it's about covid. covid itself, it's obvious. the supply chain. we can go on and on. it is all through the prism of covid. are we going to see more of that front-facing messaging out of the white house now considering with omicron on the horizon? >> reporter: i think, chuck. i think when you've heard from the president, from the white house officials since the emergence of the omicron variant just a few days ago, one of the real messages has been are you better off now than you were a year ago? it's been to try to say this is certainly a cause for concern but not a cause for panic, as the president himself said yesterday. they're pointing to all the ways in which they prepared for this moment, they have been closely tracking it. we're in a much different place as a country to be equipped to deal with whatever comes now than a year ago. the much better comparison is to what happened w

so how is the white house watching all of this? >> well, it also undercuts in many ways president biden's, one of his key campaign arguments and promises that if he was just to simply get elected, he, joe biden, a deal maker, a creature of the senate, bipartisanship would return to the body. and that he could prove that congress could work, washington could work, and could govern. in some ways, he has. he just signed into law his $1.2 trillion infrastructure package on monday. but when you look at a congress like that. it wasn't just the censure vote, and of course the video that prompted it, but the speeches were so politicized, so partisan, you really just see there's very little room for joe biden to work with a congress like that. one final thing worth noting. all of the republican reluctance to censure or even just criticize congressman gosar for the video, they're very willing and eager to try to have a debate about punishing the 13 republicans who voted for joe biden's bipartisan infrastructure bill, when former president do

is the white house looking at the entire country when trying to figure out how to deal with these uses? >> no, they are. they are constantly talking about equity, as an important aspect of every single thing that they do, right? but when you talk to black voters, black activists, and latino voters, latino activists, they're saying they don't feel that. and that is at the core of a lot of what's happening with this administration right now, is that they have a lot that they could be running on and talking about. they have this higher, the overall unemployment going down, unemployment going down, you have this infrastructure bill that they say is going to provide a lot of jobs. numbers going up on jobs overall in this country. but people aren't feeling that, because what they're seeing is inflation going up, prices going up, the gas and their milk costing more. and i think that is huge, because this administration came in and they had a lot to cover, right? you come in on the pandemic, there's a recession going on. but they made big, lofty promises. so you raise expectations with everyon
