it wasn't quite clear from the white house. you did hear cedric richmond say there just aren't the votes. will there be? >> well, i would say-- i would say cedric is wiles not to completely predict what 50 democratic senators will do. as you know, this bill will get zero republican votes, just like the american rescue plan in march that produced such good benefits for every zip code, no republicans would support it. and this bill won't get republican votes, either. so what will 50 democrats agree to? i am a strong supporter of paid child and family leave, but remember this, margaret, everybody who cares about paid child and family leave also cares about the child tax credit. they care about affordable child care. they care about prekindergarten. and in that bucket of issues that matters to family and children, without being able to predict that everything everyone wants will be fully funded for as long as we want, that bucket of issues for family and kid is going to be so powerful, i think this will be the biggest pro-child bil

, trump's daily schedule, white house visitor log, and call records. trump's lawyer justin clark arguing the requests are overly broad and failure to block them would open up the door for the partisanship of document requests and blowing a hole in executive privilege that should concern everybody. wh whoil the judge asked clark to dial down the rhetoric a bit she challenged lawyers on the house committee on the breadth of documents requested saying some of these requests seem very narrowly tailored but some are alarmingly broad. and there has to be some limit. the national archives says it intends to hand over the trump documents next friday unless the judge blocks them which she did not appear willing to do. this is such an historic case with implications for future presidents it is likely whatever decision the judge makes will be appealed. we also learned today that the committee has interviewed over 150 people so far in its investigation. >> thank you so much. let's talk to somebody who knows a little bit about executive privilege, john dean, white

it is in my similar 2010 when democrats control the house, the senate and the white house and they continue to push radical proposals even after the 2009 elections. it seems were on a very similar path this time. the agenda is bad for america, but the outcome politically for republicans will be getting 2022. bill: that brings us to the ultimate question. they have essentially doubled down. how much concern is there if at all that too much spending is just too much for voters? >> what you see in recent weeks as we talked about these bills, they try to focus the attention away from the topline cost and what did the bill and how they will pay for it. things like tax credits, prekindergarten and childcare. certainly this debate is not going away. i think we will see that in the coming weeks. moderate democrats are looking for the congressional budget office present a manageable proof he in the senate has expressed concerns about the cost of the social spending plan and what happened to some of these programs at their extended in the long-term. bill: mark, you had a prediction, do you do that 12

. >> what i hear from the white house, white house officials, as well as the president himself, is this sense of urgency. this sense of trying to tell americans, we hear your struggles. we see the gas prices and rising prices at the grocery store, and we want to help. yesterday, the president spoke at length about the release of oil, part of the strategic petroleum reserve. he did, though -- he wasn't able to give a date on sort of when people will start to see relief from that. the energy secretary, she told reporters yesterday that hopefully within a couple weeks, people will start to see prices come down. that, of course, is what they called a band aid. they admitted themselves it's a temporary fix, and that long term, americans really will need some help here. they said the real way to deal with this is clean energy. that, of course, is a very, very long-term solution. the other thing to note is every president has really dealt with this. whether you look at john f. kennedy or lyndon b. johnson or richard nixon, every president in some ways tried to get their arms around inflation.

does the white house have to alert people or not press the panic button? >> tight rope act because you don't want to scare people and biden keeps pounding the drum on vaccinations. every time prognosticators say it's petering out, another variant is around the corner. it's clear we're going to have to live with this virus at lower levels for sometime to come and cities can't keep shutting down and students can't keep wearing masks all day long in class. to me, the political impact is president biden can't declare victory on the issue that he ran against in 2020. and i think that's important to know. the same time, the economy is bouncing back strongly. jobless claims down to a 52-year low. but even with all of that, you have today the -- you have people spending money for black friday, but even with all of that, you have the market slide. and you made mention at the top of the newscast and inflation, making clear that this recovery is rather fragile. >> what about the state of our economy, black friday today? the market took a hit inflation is up. your tho

jonathan lemire, i am curious of the white house a couple days after the election, what the white house is saying about the election, if they are talking about new direction to move in, i want to go back to this new york times editorial. one of the most progressive voices of america. this is as i talk that you might hear on "morning joe" or hear from guy cecil or hear from bill clinton. if you read this, it says for many voters especially those who don't vote regularly, the 2020 election was about removing mr. trump from the white house. it was less about policies or ideology. mr. biden did not win the democratic primary because he promised progressive revolution. there were plenty of other candidates doing that. he captured the nomination and the presidency because he promised an exhausted nation a return to sanity decency and competency. as representative abigail spanberger told the new york times nobody elected him to be fdr, they elected him to be normal or stop the chaos. they did and i am not sure what happened since january 20th. there is no doubt. there is no doubt from that spe
