let's go to cnn chief white house correspondent kaitlan collins. it is shaping up potentially to be very good day for the biden administration. not just a jobs figures, but possibly, right, finally moving on infrastructure and build back better. >> yeah. if the president gets both of those, this is going to be one of the most significant days of his presidency. it would not just be that bipartisan legislative victory he likely gets if they do pass this infrastructure bill as the house says they are set to do so right now. also in addition with this jobs report. and we know we are going to hear from president biden here in the next hour on the jobs report numbers. he's already scheduled to give those remarks and this is going to be something where the white house is looking forward to these remarks compared to in the past where they tried to spin them, it has been months where it is undercut the assessment. this is good news for the white house. if they get both of these today. importantly, it comes in the context of several weeks that have not been

a big step for the white house. we'll likely hear from the president this afternoon. >> democrats have not had a lot of good news this week or days before. jessica, a quick question. i hate to put you on the spot for time line questions because this is capitol hill tea leave reading, but do we know the time line for this getting through the senate, perhaps back to the house? or is that just, you know, we have to wait and see? >> reporter: right. it's everyone's best guess at this point. the old adage is take the over when it comes to these things. at this point, schumer aiming for by christmas, manchin at first was kind of opposed to that. he was, you know, hesitant to commit to that. now we talked to him more recently. he said he was open to that if they could get to where they wanted to be. so the question now is will they get there. and, again, they're out all next week for thanksgiving. that puts us into the first week of december where they'll come right up against the debt limit, you know, deadline and also go

so, as we know, house democrats huddling right now with white house officials on getting these bills to a vote regardless of what we heard from senator manchin this morning. i guess the big question at this point is, is there actually going to be a vote today? >> reporter: that is still unclear. in fact, at this meeting that's happening down the hall from me right now, they have not been told exactly when that vote will be. what they are instead doing is going through the bill section by section, trying to outline some of the last-minute changes that have been made. this is a 2,000-plus-page bill, at least $1.75 trillion, packing all aspects of the american economy. one thing white house officials are indicating in there is they believe it will raise $2.1 trillion in revenue. they argue there might be some deficit reduction as well as part of an effort to raise taxes on a wide range of matters. but there's not been an official score from nonpartisan budget keepers about what exactly this bill will cause to the economy. that is creating some members pause. they want to see that before

jeff zeleny is outside the white house this morning. jeff, the president is waiting a few days to sign the infrastructure bill that passed congress the end of last week. what event is he waiting for? >> reporter: he's waiting simply for senators and representatives to come back to washington. congress is on their recess this week, which means the vast majority of this bipartisan group has left town. the president, of course, spent the majority of his time in the senate, wants there to be a big event here at the white house. he wants to shine a light on the fact that 19 republicans in the senate and 13 republicans in the house joined virtually all democrats to vote for this bill. the white house wants to give a little attention to this. the reason why is his approval rating, he knows the american people are not necessarily understanding everything that is in this bill. the white house believes that by biden beginning to explain it, they can begin to make the case. you can see the approval ratings right there. look at the strongly disappr

christine romans is our business correspondent and john harwood is at the white house. as we look at what is happening on capitol hill, what we're getting in terms of those numbers this morning, there is a lot for white house to be happy about this morning. christine, break the numbers down for us. what does this tell us, especially the revisions for august and september? >> remember how concerned we were about the variant and holding back this summer hiring lull that we saw. it wasn't as bad as we thought. when you look at august, at first the government said there were 366,000 jobs created in august, they've revised that to 483. that is a really strong month of jobs gains. you look at september. they said 194,000. we were disapossibilitied by that number. it showed sort of this american engine of job creation slowing. that was revised too. these in normal times are verier big, big numbers. another 531,000 in october. it paints the picture of american employers who are aggressively hiring. you heard the labor secretary talk about how broad based the hiring was. it was

, senate, and white house. there were some differences at the end and we'll deal with those as we go forward. what will happen is the -- we have different committee system in the house than they do in the senate, so this bill will now be reshaped to their committees. and at that point, we'll see where we need to, shall we say, reconcile our differences. but at the end of the day, we will have a great bill. mr. pallone? >> yeah. i mean, look, the fact of the matter is that over the last few months, and particularly in the last few weeks, we have been working with the senators not only manchin and sinema but also with the chairs of the committees in the senate. so, you know, i'll use two examples. one is on the drug pricing, right. i mean, we've been basically drilling down and getting sinema's input, getting schumer's input, and so i do believe that the drug pricing provision that you see is it. i mean, i don't know. i guess there could be some changes, but i don't think they're significant. and the fact that we

that's something the liberal, the moderates, and the white house will have to haggle on for weeks to come. >> kaitlan, as we look at how this is playing out, pete buttigieg saying the president is closer to getting manchin on the same page. at the town hall he said he always comes around around votes for it, talking about joe manchin. this is in many ways what the president has been working on, we're told, behind closed doors. how close is he to making sure manchin is on board, kaitlan? >> reporter: clearly, they are not there yet. manchin didn't sign off on that bill last week when the president announced it. of course, that was something that the white house had really wanted to get done before the president came on this trip, to go to rome for the g-20 and come to scotland for this major climate summit. now the president is preparing to leave the summit in just a few hours and go back to washington and still, of course, no backing from senator manchin on that yet. it likely explains why the kwhouls you saw the other day after we asked president biden at that press conference if he

john harwood is at the white house. rene, there was a lot coming into this in terms of what was the message was expected to be. how does that translate into action? is there a sense that former president obama has a little bit more push, perhaps, to spur action? >> reporter: good morning, erica. i think what the thinking going into was essentially that he has a lot of credibility when it comes to this issue of climate change, and for everyone watching, you saw that that was a passionate speech. it was equal parts passionate, but it was also urgent and political. i mean, he went after former president trump. he didn't name him, but he spoke about his successor and his pulling out of the paris climate accord as well as, i'm quoting now, four years of active hostility towards climate science coming from the very top. so you get the sense that the role here that he is playing with his major speech, which, by the way, we would be remiss if we don't point out the timing of all this, this is happening, this speech is happening

but the white house hasn't really figured out what that message is in terms of how they're doing things. even this move with the strategic reserves, that's great. as jim pointed out, this is 2.5 days' worth of gas. that's a political move. >> this is a drop in the bucket. going out saying they're juicing the economy by putting out the oil reserves could raise hopes for people. when they see it doesn't really impact anything, that could also almost blow back on democrats. democrats' fundamental problem is their core agenda is focused on the middle class, in terms of making people's lives easier for low and middle-income americans. they're addressing the wrong issue right now. americans time and time again, poll after poll, say they want something to be done about inflation. these bills they're passing right now, yes, long-term they'll help the middle class, but they're not going to do anything in terms of these higher gas prices right now. they're not going to help at the pump, when it comes to the supply chain issues. can people find enough christmas presents for their kids? can they ev

let's take a look at this white house rollout and where the vaccines are going to be. i think we all remember the adult rollout back in december/january was, well, a bit rocky. this one looks like has all the signs of being much, much smoother. the rollout will be in pediatricians' offices. that's key. pediatricians are great at giving vaccines. they're used to ordering them, giving them. pharmacies, children's hospitals, schools and other lo locations. dr. rochelle walensky talked yesterday about address the question that parents have, which is, you know, covid doesn't affect children typically as severely as it affects adults. why should i give a vaccine to my child? the answer really is that covid can affect children quite terribly. thousands and thousands of children have gotten very, very sick with covid. been hospitalized, many of them were perfectly healthy to begin with, why would you want to roll the dice with your child? let's listen to dr. walensky. >> the chance that a child will have severe covid, require hospitalization or develop a long-term complication

the white house holding a call right now to address what they're calling an overdose epidemic. what's working? is anything working? >> i think for a long time the focus was on cutting down on prescription opioids because people believed that was the genesis of the problem. that may have made some impact. right now pretty clearly the issue is elicit fentanyl. people are focusing on things like bub rin nor print. that helps treat addiction. narcan is a medication that can help reverse someone in the thros of an overdose. should that be more available. these are classic harm reduction conversations that come up over and over again. there's another thing as well, something we've been reporting on. fentanyl test strips. oftentimes fentanyl will find its way into other drugs, not just opioids, people using the fentanyl to try to cut their drugs, try to cut down on costs. these strips, very simple strips here, people will use them to try and figure out is the drug that they're using, does it have fentanyl in it or not. again, it's a controversial topic around harm production. some say

white house records from january 6th were to be handed over to the committee starting today. a federal appeals court ruling yesterday there is go to be a pause for a moment. a three-judge panel will now hear arguments on these issues at the end of the month. >> cnn's kara scannell is following all the latest developments here in washington. let's begin with mark meadows, the second person after steve bannon to be charged with contempt. do we have any idea whether he might comply in the next 60 minutes? >> reporter: well, he seems to be playing a game of chicken with the committee. as you said, the committee chairman ben nie thompson issue this letter yesterday, threatening he will hold him in contempt if he does not show up with documents and be prepared to testify at 10:00, just an hour from now. in that letter, thompson wrote there is no legal valid basis for meadows resistance. the select committee will view mr. meadow's failure to appear as will noncompliance, which could result in a referral to the department of justice for criminal charges. in response to that, meadows
