you speak about your lived experience often and that poverty wasn't something i studied at stanford, it was something i lived .i remember opening the refrigeratorand seeing a block of cheese . i remember seeing how stressed she was check cashing places because she needed money to pay the bills. i remember how angry and tired she was and she was never lazy. she worked so hard and literally worked herself to death but still at the end of the month it's hard to make ends meet. i realized when i was mayor thatstory wasn't singular . the vast majority of people in my community that was an issue and doctor king before he passed his last book talked about guaranteed income as a way to abolish poverty and also the issue nationally i thought it was important to make poverty an issue and really question the fact of poverty and make everyone uncomfortable. why should anyone live with black? why should anyone be working and not be able to affordrent ? that was the motivation behind universal income. >> that's why we bonded because it had a lot to do with lived experience and i'll be honest as so
