new york city forward. >> one of your challenges is really getting new york city back into a pre-covid business and economic environment. how challenging do you think that's going to be and do you think this is going to be a tougher recovery than maybe folks in manhattan realize? >> it's going to be tough. we know that. but, you know, i'm a sports guy. the game was on the line in the mid-'80s when we were having 2,000 homicide a year, we put on bulletproof vests and turned around the city. we can do it again. new york is too expensive and bureaucratic to do business in. our agencies are focused on penalizing businesses and holding up businesses from opening. think about this for a moment. you build a hotel in new york, you're ready to bring in business travelers and hire people, and you will wait almost two years just to get a sprinkler inspection. or try opening a restaurant and wait two years for con edison to turn on your electricity. this condition happen in a city where we're trying to recover. the overwhelming number of our employees use the subway system every day. but it's prev

new york city will be a champion. >> you've talked about some important issues obviously in new york city. although you and eric adams won your election, surprisingly a series of ballot issues that would have made it easier to vote lost or failed. how surprised were you by those results? what will it take for new york to modernize its voting laws? >> so i, you know, we worked really hard to bring in the consistency and my run was a catalyst for this new electorate to feel heard and to feel seen. so i will work really hard to push to make voter registration, to occur on the same day, to make it easier. so many folks who wanted to change their party affiliation didn't know why there were so many challenges. and so this has opened up an opportunity to do better around voter education and to prioritize language access and to prioritize bilingual organizers in this work to ensure adequate social and ballot education. council woman-elect, thank you and congratulations again on your historic victory. >> coming up, it's not often that i agree with nikki haley but i gets never say never. i gu

but this person didn't just because you're dealing with a proxy in a big city like new york. that being said, is there any, have you noticed anything else being said to do, to try to make that streamline process more efficient to go along with this bill? so many times we put the horse before the card and in this case, do you feel like that could happen where you might actually have people one person being given a chance to vote in the other, not just because the paperwork didn't get processed. i see that there will be confusion with this particular as we saw that were right. so i was boating. we saw the roll out of that new system basically become disastrous. i do not want this to happen in another municipal election where you're voting for the may or the controller and so forth. this is why i think they really should ensure that there's money behind this. and we also meet so kind of read that the board of elections and take out the patriot system that exists in that particular institution to ensure that we are protecting the rights of all american citizens and non citizens.
