nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston joins us now. hi, larry. good morning, good to see you. the bill has been discussed for months by us, by everybody, by the house. is it all the back and forth that's taken it so long? or what is it? >> it sure seems like it's been forever. there's no question about that. i think there are two three things we want to think about. we know that republicans in the house have been dead set against the bill. a very diverse democratic caucus. that's been tough for pelosi. there are some touchy areas with respect to this large almost 2 trillion dollar bill. things like paid family leave, childcare payments for the next year or so, money for climate change, various programs. and in some of these cases, progressives aren't happy that the money isn't enough. and the third point is the bill is not fully paid for according to the congressional budget office. it's anywhere between 160 billion and $360 billion, short from paying for itself. so when you put all of these things together and, yeah, it's still touchy as far as

nbc bay area's bob redell is live outside one of those sites in concord. bob, what has the demand been like there this morning? >> good morning. we heard from contra costa health services in the past hour. demand has been high. they've got about 400 appointments today for kids ages 5 to 11 at their three county-run clinics. antioch, richmond and in concord. and they say they have the same level of demand in terms of appointments for tomorrow as well. we saw a number of moms and dads bringing their young sons and daughters in for their first rounds of shots here at the concord clinic. this was this morning before the start of school. these parents tell us it's important they get this done on day one. >> it's been hard protecting them without -- with just using masks. now we have the vaccine which we know protects them even more. >> just to make sure that if something were to happen, she were to be exposed she wouldn't have to quarantine the same way. missing ten days of school is not easy. >> i'm excited because then my mom says that i can go to chuck e. ch
