where it snowed and that is a winter weather watch for the sierra and all of that drive 180 and 50 and if we put the accumulated snow on the map and watch the beautiful shade of blue it is about a half a foot of snow up at donner pass and alpine meadows and new palisades and this goes down to about 5000 feet and few things say as much about the state of this drought as this image and there is a winter weather advisory with a red flag warning on top of it. so you have a forecast for significant amounts of snow with fire weather concerns overlapping and that red flag warning started today 2:00 and goes until 5:00 and it will be windy over there and the snow on the east side of the sierra are not enough to overpower the fire over there. i don't know that i have ever seen a map that has a winter weather advisory with a red flag warning on top of it and not to say it has never happened but it is weird and it says a lot about the state of the landscape and hopefully we don't see a lot more of those. tomorrow it goes down to the upper 40s and it will be cooler tomorrow and breezy but we are d

drivers in the sierra today had to get out the change. ski resorts and shops say this early snow is a great sign for the season. snow and slick roads in the sierra monday brought the plows out and sent vehicles spinning out. lot of snow. bad conditions. yeah it's ice. it's slippery. just be careful on i 80 near sugar bowl, a big rig got stuck in the snow and had to be towed and near donner summit, a jeep facing the wrong way slid into a snow bank for sierra ski resorts. the early snow was a welcome sign for the season.

this now shifted out into the central valley in the sierra foothills. still very active morning for the bay, including some showers in marine county, solano and contra costa counties zooming in right on the core of the bay. we do have a lot of rainfall in san francisco down highway one as well as a few showers from san mateo up to sfo and right on over into the east bay alameda and portions of oakland. also in the midst of this rain. as you can see, the bay bridge, especially that western span is looking at showers right now. second system on our doorstep. this one is going to impact us with our heaviest of rainfall in overnight hours tonight. so today, much like yesterday will see some off and on showers on into the afternoon ahead. we will see pockets of moderate even heavy rainfall towards the afternoon. so unlike yesterday where it quieted down quite a bit towards the middle of the day today is going to say a little bit more unsettled and i would definitely keep the rain jackets and umbrellas with you tonight. things really kick back into gear and b

a snowstorm rolling up in the sierra nevada. the first real significant one of the season so far. and here we go. they've already got some trouble up there. this is a live look at i 80 on the donner summit. and there you are all backed up right now on i 80 is the trucks. the cars all lined up apparently the most of an accident on the road. the roads have already been very slick. it has been raining up there tonight. no snow just yet. but that will soon change. you see right here overnight tonight, the temperatures begin to dip and there you go. across the higher peaks start to see some snow begin to pile up their starting out about 7500 feet but dropping down to about 6500. so that will encompass all the passes if you're headed in that direction is going to slide to the south all the way down toward your 70 that means a good part of the sierra nevada going to see a lot of snow from this system as a rolls on through. in fact, there are some winter weather advisories that have now been posted across the 70 area could see maybe 4, maybe 6 inches of snow across some of the peaks there

new video from the sierra and an update that may have you rethinking your week plans. thanks to our storm, the newly reopened pallisades resort is opening friday. jeff, it's not even november. we're not even at halloween and we have snow. enough snow to go skiing. >> yeah. so unusual. the ski resorts are taking advantage of the fact that these wildfires, the fire danger is gone at least for right now. and look at how these numbers stack up. our weekend storm system from the snow lab, 33.1 inches. the october total is 47.7 inches. so this is the snoiest october on record. mt. rose, 42 inches, pallisades, 36 inches. where do we go from here? we've got two different storm systems next week. they look a little on the warmer side. as we roll through next monday and tuesday you can see a little snow there. then as we hit next thursday and friday, we'll get another shot at maybe some snowfall there. only one to four inches next week but possibly by november 7th through the 12th, we could see another one to two feet of snow. so right now, november is looking good for us as we

and the big winter storm that they got in the sierra means an early open. we're going to tell you when you can start skiing and riding and soon as this weekend. if you want to. >> 9.41 is the time one of the big stories we're following out of the east bay. the fact that a jury has found danville police officer andrew hall guilty for assault with a firearm in the shooting death of an unarmed mentally ill man. this is file video from the incident which happened back in 2018. that's when lot air. our believe it was shot and killed during a slow speed chase. prosecutors say that the officer andrew hall used what they described as excessive unreasonable and unnecessary force when he shot are billy to 9 times the jury, however, was deadlocked on the second count of voluntary manslaughter. so the next step in this case will be sentencing. and one defense attorney says the maximum time that hall could be sentenced to his 17 years behind bars. >> 3 animal shelter employees in palo alto have been sighted after 7 puppies died during transport investigators determined
