former texas governor and energy secretary rick perry. let's start with the border. i have been down to the border with you. we were at the rio grande. we had this under control under donald trump's policies. joe biden is not enforcing the laws. illegal immigrants get preferential treatments. what do you do when the president fails to enforce the law? >> it's a massive problem along the southern border and particularly for the state of texas. the message is clear for texas. we don't care about you. we want open borders. people on the left are driving this president's agenda and open borders is what he believes in. why don't -- we spent $3 billion in texas. texas taxpayer money to defend that border. take some of that money and hire every bus company across the country and these people that are coming in, they clearly said they are not going to follow our laws. and transport them to delaware across the blue states that think it's a great idea to have open borders. i think after about a week of that, you would have an uprising across the country and in washington, d.c.

she also took shots at rick perry, who snuck a cigarette and alcohol when they met in 2012 allegedly. greg, i will go to you first about this. anything that came out in the book surprising? >> greg: i don't know how salacious it is to say someone smells like booze and cigarettes. that's my family. [laughter] everybody smells like booze and cigarettes. you wouldn't believe it, "this 20-year-old, he was drinking." shut up, couric! [laughter] she is detestable. i will tell you why. they called her "america's sweetheart" being sarcastic. "here comes america sweetheart." ." then, it is stuck. they believed that they were serious pure cheese not america's sweetheart, she's america's gremlin. tv makes people weird. it made her really weird. it's making me a little weird, but it made her really weird. >> jesse: you had a head start. rick perry to ernie momise told him we will need. so i think he is just going to find the sweet spot that he always looks for. he'll find something that lets americans invest in clean energy but also protects the workers that are in west virginia, pennsylvania, ohio, and all over the country. he's working well with the president and he's going to find a way to cut a deal because that's what he wants to do. . >> the other moderate is kyrsten sinema of arizona. her issue right now seems to be how you pay for the bill. she is opposed to an increase in corporate taxes. that is a big part of this, mark. how do democrats pay for this bill if they don't pay for this bill? . >> well, i think it's important the pay fors are on the table and it's clear how they are being paid for. we have had too much debt driven up for too long by republicans ironically. we have been talking about this months and months and months. is it now that we understand what the bright lines are? we will have transformation for society. and it was going to pass a long

. >> jesse: with me now, former energy secretary and texas governor rick perry. all right, secretary, you remember 2014, sky high gasoline prices, you know the energy market, that just crushed barack obama. they lost the senate because of that. are you seeing similar things here in the country? >> yeah, and jesse, by the way, stephen miller is just absolutely a stunning individual when it comes to really being able to point out exactly what the problem is. if the guy is a genius. but here is the way i see the real problem in this country today, is that you have an administration that doesn't know how to govern, and i go back to the obama administration, a person who had been in the senate for a short period of time, never run anything, never managed anything, and i think we are seeing a replay of that with the biden administration. they -- there's four simple tenants when you talk about governing. one is you can't overtax, you can't over regulate, you've got to have a legal system that doesn't allow for over suing, and you've got to have a skilled workforce, whic

rick perry would have considered these laws for be wildly extreme let alone your former boss. so it is totally off the rails here. and we could talk later about our friend matthew dowd who is running for lieutenant governor who i saw last night. but it is a crazy time down here. i love texas and texans. and there are a large number of texans who are discombobulated, disconcerted, upset, baffled, angry that their chosen representatives behaving this way that doesn't reflect the vote of the majority of texans. and so you are starting to see them lose support. i wouldn't say crater, but they look vulnerable. and that is all part of the story here. incredibly fascinating and scary. >> part of the reason that they are cratering, and i think that they are, i think that they are held up by these extreme factions, is this extreme excrement isn't popular. overturning 85% of all abortions in texas doesn't have the majority support among republicans. letting kids die by banning mask mandates is not popular and that state had one of the worst covid crises of the delta variant. and the vot
