one thing we are excited about for 2022 and beyond is companies like netflix getting involved in theatrical, where a lot of companies that would -- films that would have gone direct to streaming, there is a possibility that they could have a short theatrical window and the studio or distributor is willing to charge them a much lower film rent for that title. the exhibitors get a great deal now. before, they were concerned about preserving that window, but now that the risk has been taken and we know what happens, what it's like, and that studios are comfortable with this, we can proceed. i think everyone can proceed pretty profitably. caroline: back in the day, when we all went to the cinema all the time, people sort of bought ongoing subscriptions. they could go as many times as they wanted, go for hours on end. we are talking a lot about how you offered the premium product, the cocktails and the like, but are consumers ever going back to that? alicia: there are programs similar to that. the original program that offered that was not sustainable, it was not profitable in any way. they were

there is a lot of high expectations on netflix. i think it was more -- i did not interpret the guidance in terms of earnings and revenues. they were within range. it was a surprising reaction. overall, i think it was a sigh of relief for people that are still bearish on netflix. amanda: even those that are bullish to have the caution evaluation. the most hardened believers netflix so you cannot call this inexpensive. where'd you come down on valuation? what do you need to see longer-term in those projections to help justify where this trades? dan: it trades about 55 times earnings. revenues were only up 17% last quarter. topline growth does not substantiate the multiple. netflix has a conductor going forward. we know subscriber growth in the u.s. and canada is very mature. there is a lot of competition. going forward, the best opportunities for them to really grow our international space. the average revenue per user they get in international space is much lower than it is domestically. how can they substantiate that multiple when

netflix was the outright winner. the extruder a success of this korean show has held subscriber growth. we saw the stronger subscriber growth topping estimates. we saw strong viewing throughout the corner -- throughout the quarter. latin america was a disappointment. we see some testing that they would be making more licensing of content and acquisitions as well as signifying -- signaling the fourth quarter will be uncharted territory when it comes to new content. pretty close to perfect if you look at analysts reactions. shery: perhaps it is solid earnings like netflix and other companies we are seeing is the reason we are seeing a shift in sentiment in the markets. more concern about inflation, commodity prices rising, we are seeing this focus on third-quarter earnings and they are coming in pretty strong. we went from financial to consumer staples and other bellwethers and things like ok. goldman sachs saying the backdrop may remain difficult in the near term but expects the market to climb the wall of worry. haid

everyone knows plenty of people were at home binging netflix. these streamers, these streaming platforms have immense amount of demand for content. they are trying to turn it out. they're constantly moving from project to project and the way it is allowed for them to have these working conditions is that these companies have different agreements with iatse. in 2009, they struck a deal with iatse. netflix was just barely out, it was something that was still mailing you a dvd at home. there was an agreement strike that said workers would need to be more flexible here. the warning was that these are uncertain economies. that deal was agreed upon. it also said when things change, if these companies become profitable, both parties will recognize that and this agreement will change. there has been this demand from the workers that it is obviously time and these are the dominant players in the industry. amazon, netflix, these are the new powers, and so it does not make a lot of sense for them to be able to not contribute as much to pensions, pay worker

chappelle released a netflix series called the closer. that's special game, kate, after some people say he made comments, netflix employees even it walked out last week in protest of his comedy special. here's video of them rattling protesters demanded that netflix better support its transgender and non-binary employees. now use and that video chappelle also addressed the backlash, the comedian remained unapologetic about the special saying, quote, i said what i said. but however, he's also saying he is willing to meet with the transgender community but won't bend to anyone's demands. he said he meet with them at a time and place of his choosing and if they watched his entire special. now, as i mentioned, several people this morning tell me that they have not watched the special. but here's what one lady had to say about the controversy. >> i live picture of. but i don't know if i like him enough to sit through. >> things that make me feel uncomfortable because i believe that all trans people should have equal rights and that they are hum
