just north of santa barbara the alisal fire burns out of control, shutting down a section of the famed pacific coast highway. its breathtaking views now marred by smoke. >> not only is this area prone to significant fires that have had significant damage in the past but it's also a beautiful area >> reporter: the fire doubling in size overnight. forcing evacuations from the forest to the sea. firefighters now defending the famed reagan ranch once known as the west coast white house. you can see those flames climbing up that hillside just feet away from this highway. fire officials say the dry fuel combined with the northerly winds are the reason why this highway will be closed for the foreseeable future 7,000 acres scorched, 0% contained threatening up to 120 structures the toll adding to the state's staggering fire season. almost 2 million acres burned so far. >> do you tie this to climate change >> you know, some people would we are seeing our fires burn differently. we're seeing them burn hotter and faster. they're more dangerous. >> reporter: rancher patrick brown's family has owne

." >>> strong winds continue to fan the flames in santa barbara county where the alisal fire has grown. containment at 5%, and highway 101, this is north of tkpwau hraeta. let's check in with meteorologist, kari hall. kari, how long will that smoke linger in the bay area? >> it's going to start to move in later on this afternoon, late morning into the afternoon. some of the smoke starting to come in from the south of the alisal fire. moderate air quality, and that means people sensitive to the smoke, children and the elderly should limit time out there in the south and east bays, and it may not make it all the way up to the north bay. by 10:00, we're in the low 60s. when the temperatures warm up, most likely that smoke will be settling in. we will see the temperatures in the low 80s for san jose, and 83 in napa. for livermore, expect a high of 85 degrees. we'll talk more about more changes ahead in our weekend forecast. >>> mike, you are saying the alert does continue right now? >> it does. you know where the casino is, we have slowing when you get to the expressway. we have a closure

. >>> developing at this hour, a situation getting ghoers santa barbara. the so-called alisal fire is burning out of control. and as of this morning it's now scorched up to 6,000 acres. the flames jumped highway 101 last night closing both directions along the coast. evacuation orders are in effect. 600 firefighters are on the ground trying put that fire out. >>> in the delta, at least 30 homes are destroyed from a fire on remote brannan island. this is south of rio vista in sacramento county. most of those homes destroyed are said to be mobile homes. that fire started yesterday afternoon and burned at least 40 acres. and as of last night it was 30% contained and still threatening about two dozen more structures. it is still not clear what started that fire. >> think about just how many fires we've mentioned within this newscast and then those wind concerns as well. are they continuing this morning as well, kari? >> still pretty gusty. still some of those winds picking up. not as strong as it was earlier, late last night. but it's too early to start cleani

noticed a little more haze in the air as upper level smoke comes up from the south away from the santa barbara county coastline. for the start of the weekend we will see moderate air quality for places like the santa clara valley, inland east bay and along the coast, everybody switches back to good air quality sunday as temperatures cool down and the sea breeze picks up. hour by hour tomorrow begin the day in the 40s and 50s. numbers in the upper 70s around lunchtime. and check out the high temperatures for saturday. saturday clearly the warmer of the two weekend days as you'll see numbers in the upper 80s around livermore towards morgan hill, 75 san francisco, 81 in oakland mid-80s in san jose with 80s into the north bay. now you can contrast that with sunday highs and everything cooled off. down into the 60s for highs for many places on sunday. as we see the combination of sea breeze, increasing cloudsen a a chance of some showers by late afternoon and evening. sunday morning we start off the cloudy skies. winds pick up a bit. feel chilly outside. then by the afternoon and evening there goes

a wildfire exploding in size shut down highway 101 in santa barbara county. the fire is burning in the mountains above the highway. the flames are moving closer toward the highway and the ocean as well. the evacuation order are in effect for several communities. of course we'll continue to watch this closely and bring you more information as we find out more. >>> more than half the people who live in the bay area are now thinking of leaving the bay area. that is according to those responding to the latest joint venture silicon valley survey. 56% say they are considering moving somewhere else during the next few years. the overwhelming reasons? cost of living, high cost of housing. >> the number is 56%. 56% say they are seriously considering their options now and they think they might leave the bay area. doesn't mean they'll all leave. it is not a commitment on their part. this is not binding. but that is how they're feeling when they talk to a pollster. >> more than 60% of the people surveyed also said wildfires and the drought are another reason they're thin

major wildfires in northern california settled down except for what is happening on the santa barbara coast line. still undergoing fire near the south coast. the upper level winds may bring some of the haze back to the bay area tomorrow. moderate levels of particulate pollution may be possible around the south bay tomorrow. numbers in the 40s to low 50s in the morning. by lunch time 70s almost everywhere. back into tee shirt weather in the span of four to five hours. for the afternoon all the valleys tomorrow into the 80s. look at san francisco to oakland mid 70s to 80 degrees. low 80s in san jose. mid 80s morgan hill and a very similar forecast for saturday. might trend a little bit cooler on the coast as the seabreeze starts to pick up. then notice the drop in temperatures on sunday. back into the 60s and low 70s. we'll see increasing clouds and cooling for the second half of the weekend. so saturday right now the better of the two days for your outdoor plans. by sunday evening you see that passing through the bay area. that is just enough left to it, a weakening frontal boundary th

this particular fire is the fire burning on the santa barbara county coast line. change in the upper level winds may bring some of the smoke our way. chances are we'll see a little bit of that friday and saturday before the winds turn onshore again and push more of the smoke away by sunday. so here is a look at the temperature trend for the morning. heater for the morning with jacket weather and then for the afternoon back into the numbers in the 70s and 80s inland. a few degrees of warming tomorrow. 83 degrees in san jose. mid to upper 70s around san francisco. close to 80 in oakland. and the inland tri valley and east bay valleys into the 80s. similar up toward santa rosa and san rafael and to the south around morgan hill. saturday should shape up just the same way. may see more wildfire smoke. upper level smoke and haze. sunny skies for saturday then watch the temperature drop on sunday. that is a big change. 60s to low 70s for highs on sunday because we'll see a stronger seabreeze, increasing clouds, and the first of three chances for some rain around the bay
