but i felt a little bit that way, about the fda process. like it does seem a little weird there is this emergency use authorization, there's literally hundreds of millions of shots going into arms, what is the difference, why now, what is this mean? >> that's a great question chris. and i think you are not alone and asking this question at this point, the emergency use authorization is something that's only used in a time of public health emergency, like a pandemic, in that situation, the fda will review the vaccines, and not look at them for his long a period of time before they actually approve them for use, so what's different about what happened today, is that the vaccines is been studied for six months, which allowed them to look at more safety data more efficacy. in addition to that, the fda actually looked at the manufacturing processes and chemistry aspects of the vaccine, that we're not looked at in greater detail, since the other-ization was made. the key thing from my perspective is, look by issuing emergency use authorization, w

this morning there's new optimism now that the fda granted final approval for pfizer's vaccine. earlier on today i talked to dr. fauci about what that could mean. you expressed confidence dr. fauci about the full approval will move the need in terms of vaccinations, is that because you think previously skeptical folks will rush out and get the shot or is that because more private companies will be able to mandate they get the shot? >> it's going to be both. there's a survey that those about 30% of the people who have not gotten vaccinated and had been reluctant to get vaccinated have said once they get what they consider the stamp of approval from the fda that they would very seriously consider getting vaccinated. that's one element. the second element is what you just said on the piece, which is they will now be much more enthusiasm in mandating vaccines be that incorporations or places of employment, universities, colleges, the military. all of that, i believe, will contribute to the number of people being vaccinated. the third thing is the company in this case, pfizer, can no

let me start and move to the fda. i want to start with the cdc meeting coming up in a bit. is it your expectation do you think that this recommending will be made? >> i think it will be. it remains to be seen whether cdc adds more specificity to what fda issued last night, which was adding an amendment to the emergency use authorization to allow a third booster vaccine for immune compromised individuals. the cdc advisory committee may spell out in more detail some of those individual categories of disease or treatment that might put you into that group for a third vaccination because of immune compromise. >> you talk about the fda wording. i want to ask you about the way that they phrased this approval, they said it would be for people who had organ transplants or equivalent levels of immunocompromise. do you think that was intended to leave some room for interpretation? >> well, i do. clearly the issue here is that there's a subset of the population who have immune compromising conditions for various reasons, which means their body did not mount the same immune response to
