use. let's go ahead and show our viewers the scene from video from the scene. officials say it happened roughly around 12:30 a.m. on the 900 block of 77th avenue in oakland and say it started in the roof area of that warehouse. now when it comes to witnesses, they're saying that folks were lighting fireworks in that area for hours prior to that fire. they said they even saw some firework debris coming down as a result. a business owner who was a tenant in the warehouse says that fireworks may have caused this fire, saying some of the equipment and wood on his roof, combined with that firework debris, may have possibly fuelled that fire. here's what fire officials told our camera crews at the scene. >> approximately 45 to 50 firefighters are on scene. they're still putting a tremendous amount of water on the fire. we have gone defensive at this point. >> reporter: we are learning that there was some fire exposure to other buildings, but there are no reported damage to those other buildings

kris sanchez is with us now, what this means for all of us in the bay area. kris? >> hi, marcus and lara, nice to see you in person by the way. it is no surprise that delta variant is the dominant strain. health officials always said it probably would be becausecoagio seeing the impact of a summer surge. right now 83% of u.s. cases are of the delta variant, a big spike from the 50% of all cases back in the week of july 3rd before a lot of folks started to travel. here in california nearly half of all new cases are of that delta variant. now for that reason, 17 california counties are now recommending strongly that even fully vaccinated people wear masks when we are inside and that includes all bay area counties except for solano county. so far los angeles county is the only california county mandating a return to masks indoors. now here's where we would be if we were still under that tier system that went away early in the summer. the bay area as you can see would be solidly in the red and most restrictive purple tiers based on case numbers. the tier system went aw

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that for us. how is it looking? >>> the fog has us covered this morning as we were starting out with a live look outside at the golden gate bridge. well, you can barely see the bridge right now and that may be the case as you're driving and having to deal with that fog, the wipes of the windshield wipers. let's get a look at these temperatures. they're going to be wide ranging across the bay area with our temperatures in milpitas reaching 76 and 90 in morgan hill and in los gatos a high of 85 degrees. we're anywhere to upper 60s, 75 in fremont and we're staying in the 50s in half moon bay. daly city and for san francisco mostly some mid-60s. our for the bay temperatures will be from the mid-70s all the way up to 103 in clear lake. so we are still looking at excessive heat warnings there. the heat, though, for most of us easing off as we're seeing that high pressure fading and we're also going to see storm system approaching the pacific northwest. good news for the fires burning up there. going to see a little bit mo

all of the lightning activity so far has been to the north of us and moving away from us mainly heading closer to eureka as we see the surge of showers and thunderstorms off the coast moving in that direction. moving away from us will be the trend for this whole system overall as we've seen the slight chance of some rain. here we are at 10:30 this morning and the models are putting a chance of showers near the coast and in parts of the north bay. so we'll be watching this through at least early in the afternoon. hopefully no lightning strikes. checking out our temperatures, still a big range in temperatures. 60s near the coast, up to 100 degrees in brentwood. the surge of monsoonal moisture will continue as the high pressure remains parked and it brings in chances of showers and thunderstorms into parts of the sierra. pretty quiet but it will be hot. as we take a look at our inland temperatures headed into the low to mid-90s the next few days. no changes until the weekend when it gets slightly cooler into early next week. but we're looking at san francisco keeping the coastal fog and te

as we look at the drought data, it's bad for us here in the bay area. a lot of dark red here indicating the highest level of drought. that means the year-round fire season as well as water shortages, and fields left fallow. we're tracking all of this and we'll talk more about what is ahead coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you, kari. >>> 6:02 right now. happening now, crews are on the scene of an accidental explosion involving illegal fireworks in southern california, and here in the bay area firefighters are getting ready for what may be a busy weekend. "today in the bay" kris sanchez is live where some important training is take place. >> reporter: folks in the area of santa tau teresa county park could smell smoke. this was the scene in los angeles it was related to illegal fireworks, and an explosion happened as the lapd bomb squad was trying to detonate 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks. 17 people were injured in that explosion. in contra costa county here in the bay area, investigators seized some 300 pounds of fireworks. in san francisco, auth

but most of us waking up to dry companies. and as i zoom it out there is rain all around us. it's unusual to see all of this activity happening in july but as we look at the rain and even some lightning strikes this is what we were worried about off the coast and heading to the north so it's mainly going away from us. but we'll have to watch that for eureka and that area. even just one lightning strike could start a fire and that rain is not enough to help out. we're looking at this surge in humidity and moisture. notice where it's cloudy and where it's all clear. this will be pushing through as we head into this afternoon and that will be ending our rain chances as we go into today. still 60s near the coast, 70s for the bay and it will feel hotter for spots like concord and brentwood heading to 100 degrees and that heat will continue to crank up as we go to the end of the week. our temperatures in the low to mid-90s in the valleys while san francisco will see a little bit more sunshine and highs reaching into the 70s the next few days. >>> now as we turn to our climate in cr

what do you have for us? >> yeah, we're starting out foggy with a live look outside in san francisco. you see mist and drizzle here and will get clearing this afternoon. temperatures slightly warmer. it's also cooling off the immediate areas near the coastline, the inland valleys. it's going to be hotter. look at santa clara valley, mid-90s in morgan hill. we will see highs in san jose warmer, reaching mid-80s today. we could see highs up to 101 in antioch. livermore will be in the mid-90s, and we will see upper 70s for a high today in hayward. keeping it cool in half moon bay, 64 there. 80 in redwood city. more sunshine on the other side of the hills there. for san francisco reaching 70 downtown, and our north bay high reaching 90 in novato, but ukiah reaching 104 today and that's where the excessive heat warnings will be going up tomorrow. the high pressure will continue to get pressure and will be slow to move, so it will feel more like the central valley and parts of the bay area as the heat ramps up. loo

it wasn't always us. a few years ago poll trigss tried to curry favor with companies like facebook and high-tech executives found places in the white house and white house officials found new jobs in high tech. some criticism for jeff bezos. you probably read it for spending so much money on space. estimates are he spends around a billion dollars a year out of his personal fortune, even though he donates hundreds of millions to charity, not everybody enamored with his rocket launch, sending himself and three others to the edge of space and back down again. was that money wasted. people asked on social media. but, here's the thing. you can't spend money in space. every cent he spent was spent on earth. billions paid to engineers, their families, metal fabricators, computer makers. he did not take the money to space with him and leave it there. now there is legitimate criticism bezos does not pay his fair share in taxes and working conditions for some workers are substandard which made this joke extra flat.
