something he's not used to doing. you're absolutely right, he can command his troops and keep this from happening if he really really wants to do that. but remember that mitch mcconnell also cares about winning a majority in the senate in 2022 and he has some vulnerable senators. and if they're on record as opposing infrastructure, all of those things that are popular in their states and popular with those voters as the poll showed, that's gonna be a bigger problem for him. so i don't think that he's gonna pull out all of the stops to kill this, and if it goes through, and it goes to the house, nancy pelosi's gonna sit on it and wait until we see that larger package happen. and one other big point which is you need all 50 democrats to get the second part of this package. you are not going to get the 50 unless there is a clear belief among the recalcitrance that they have done everything they can to get this bipartisan deal done. so they're real reasons to move that forward, to get the second piece of it which is the b

talk to us about your reporting. do we call it interaction between the biden white house and fox news? do we call it outreach? what wording do you prefer? >> i would say tiptoeing or arm's length. the biden white house made, raised a lot of eyebrows last week when it went after social media companies for spreading disinformation around vaccines. what was notable is that they had not done something similar with fox news even though i think objectively we can say that some of the evening hosts and guests have been some of the chief purveyors of disinformation and fear mongering around vaccines. we wanted to explore why it was the white house was taking this more muted approach to fox. the answer is they determined there is very little upside to going after fox aggressively like that. you will turn off the very people you need to convince to take the vaccine. on top of that, they don't want to put people on these evening programs because they don't think necessarily they would get a fair shake. what is notable, brian, t

kelly o'donnell is joining us about this. just this week the governors of california and nevada issued a plea for more resources. what do we expect to hear today? >> part of what is notable is that this is a cross section of governors from the west including bipartisan governors. montana, oregon, idaho. all of the places you expect. they are trying to have a kpoel whole of government approach in a way that is accessible to these governors and they have additional focus on things like fiery distance and extreme heat. having some working groups among the existing federal organization to target thosed kind of climate related issues. so this meeting is a chance for the president that will be gone at the executive office building where they will hear from these governors, get specifics about what they need, and troo to -- try to provide some resources. they are trying to track the issues, where is extreme testimony a factor and what federal resources can be brought to bear. this is enormously costly in lives, resources, structures

dig into these polls with us. what are you finding out about how people are feeling about afghanistan and who they are? >> right. i mean, those numbers show wide support for the decision to withdraw on an expeditious time frame in afghanistan. it crosses across party lines. what you see is a 43, 42% of republicans, versus opposing decision. we could presume that number would have been different had it been described as donald trump's plan, which it was until donald trump left office to get troops out of afghanistan. what this suggests to me is there's a large domestic political appetite for a draw down of troops along lines of what biden outlined. the question of course is what happens if the plan goes awry. what happens if as we're seeing already, the taliban takes over a strong geographic footprint, if the country become terrorism. picking up fear across party lines about the possibility yet you see support for the withdrawal itself. if i had a question for richard here, one is do you think the fear is legitimat

it's multifactorial for us. on one hand, the low amount of vaccinated people that we have in the state, and then adding to that, the tourism aspect of it, the decrease in mask wearing mandates across the businesses, and just overall increased exposure. that's what is driving the current surge. >> and is it going to get worse before it gets better? do you foresee the spike in hospitalizations continuing? you said something i had not heard from anybody before. you said if you weren't vaccinated, getting covid is inevitable. it should scare people. >> and so i'm not trying to scare people, it's just a matter of time, right? it's statistics. if you are in a vulnerable state and you have an increased rate of transmission of a highly infectious disease, chances are you will get infected at some time. now we have the ability to prevent these infections. even if you get a breakthrough case of covid, the vaccines prevent you from being hospitalized and prevent you from dying. it's a marked improvement from last year. it
