so i just want to start by reminding us, this is the plan. this is the plan that takes us to 2024. this is the plan that has to reach zero if we're going to make good on the commitment on what we committed in 2014. i guess my way of thinking means that this plan needs to show us what will be necessary to hit vision zero, not just what we can do within our current resources and i think this is a tension you're starting to hear in that exchange. we could do a -- what i see here is what staff is saying to me, this is what we can do given our current resources. i actually don't hear staff saying, this is the plan that will actually reach vision zero. so i just want to raise this as a consideration for the board. i actually think it's more important and more powerful for us to lay out in this strategy what will be necessary whether or not we have the money for it, whether or not we have the legislative authority for it because we need to show the pathway. we need this plan to ask the mayor for her partnership in reaching this goal and if it's $5 million a year, why not make that known t

it is unrelenting, long days, more than what we're used to, most of us. honestly, i'm not sure how we're getting through it. this is beyond what any of us ever expected to experience in our lifetime. what we discover is how strong we are, and really, the depth of our resilience, and i say that for every single city employee that has been working around the clock for the last 11 months, and i also speak about myself. every day, i have to sort of have that moment of, like, okay, i'm really tired, i'm weary, but we've got to keep going. it is, i would say, the biggest challenge that i have had personally and professionally to be the best mom that i can be but also the best public certify chant in whatever role i'm in. i just wish that i, as my younger self, could have had someone tell me you can give it and to give a little more nudge. so indirectly, people have helped me because they have seen something in me that i did not see in myself. there's clear data that women have lost their jobs and their income because they had to take care of their safety nets.

we didn't let anybody push us around. there was going to be a ballot measure and everything was going to stop in its tracks and somehow they would all be ripped out overnight. nothing could have been further from the truth. this is a whole scale change and it's very complicated and the fact that is complicated is reflected in the fact that this is almost 100 pages of legislation and let's be clear, this is going to evolve overtime. i would like to think that supervisor safai and i don't say this is right and that we got it perfectly. we didn't get it perfect. we're going to find out overtime that there are things that need to be changed and tweaked. but i think collectively and by the way with dozens of business and neighborhood organizations, hundreds of people who had constructive suggestions, not so constructive suggestions. i think we took our best shot at it. supervisor melgar took the labor on it or a.d.a. amendments that i think are right and just but the argument that's being made by supervisor safai i think is an
