as the chair of the committee i'm not just representing colorado although colorado had a very strong scientific community led by companies like ball corporation. i have to make sure i get that in. but we also need a whole of government approach to address the challenges we face in space and science. it's the department of defense, the department of commerce. and i think that by continuing the national space council, the biden administration has made it clear that leadership in the space continues to be a priority. and they already have a number of initiatives going forward. the program to land the first woman on the moon of the mars exploration was perseverance and ingenuity. watching those videos and seeing not just the attention in the senate but across america really was inspiring and i think that is the endless frontier act innovation competition act is going to help foster that excitement in a lot of places. we will also have two missions to explore venous and the gateway for future deep space exploration. let me finish and say the success also requires that stem workforce i men

the other thing that starts happening is the colorado -- is that colorado had distrusted the militia. he thought he could control them as they refused to pay their bills. the irony of this is that what the militia did in response was it went to the coal operators. the coal operators organized a set of meetings with the other large industrials in colorado. they met with the bankers and the railroad companies, the goldmine operators. the capitalist start funding the state militia. the militia by the spring of 1914 is populated by former mine guards and is having its bills paid by the large industrial interests of the state. attentions -- the tensions mount over the winter of 1914. there is more violent, more controversy, mother jones gets arrested. women marched, it is a nasty strike from beginning to end. in early april it looked like things were getting better. the governor felt like things were improving and he actually withdrew most of the militia from southern colorado. this would be one of those actions that would seem like a good thing but have tragic consequent is because the mi

states like new mexico, ohio and colorado are offering similar incentive program set up help increase vaccination rates. so today i'm calling on all states and local governments to use funding they have received including from the american rescue plan to give $100 to anyone who gets fully vaccinated. i know the people get unvaccinated may be unfair to those already. here's the deal, if incentives help us beat this virus, i believe we should use them. we all benefits when we get more people vaccinated. and the addition to providing incentives for vaccination it is time to impose requirements on key groups to make sure they are vaccinated. just this week we took an important step to protect our veterans. like many civilian hospital systems are doing, the department of veterans affairs will now require covid-19 vaccines for doctors and nurses and other healthcare workers who provide medical care for veterans. we must do everything possible to protect our veterans from getting covid when they come to get medical care they so richly earned serving their country. we owe them. next, since ma
