given virginia's proximity to d.c. and so much federal government taking place in virginia, i'm wondering what you think about this contradiction between federal law and state law when it comes ss to marijua legalization but currently it's a schedule i as far as marijuana and heroin. what's your take on that, and, governor, should that classification be changed? >> absolutely it should be. but virginia will be the 16th state to legalize recreational use of marijuana. as a physician, this is something we started working on two years ago by expanding the medicinal use of marijuana. last year we decriminalized marijuana. we did two very thorough studies over the last year, and we know the time is right and we want to do it right, and we can, so we'll be the 16th state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. it's an equity issue for virginia among other things. we know that blacks and whites use marijuana at the same rate, but blacks are three to times more likely to be arrested and convicted. so this is wrong, and

the direction of the virginia governor. john. >> natasha chen for us with that story. natasha thank you so much for that story. joining us is cedric alexander, former president of the organization of black law enforcement specialists and also civil rights attorney areva martin. i want to go back to what we're seeing this morning. brooklyn center, ten miles from where derek chauvin is on trial and 20-year-old daunte wright was killed, cedric, in an encounter with police. to be completely transparent, we don't have too many details yet. we know he was pulled over. his mother said it was because of air fresheners dangling from his rearview mirror. we don't have details from the police. but we hear he was shot after apparently trying to get back into his car and the initial encounter with the police. what questions do you have this morning about the incident? >> certainly, this is very early in the investigation, and i think we have to wait till we can garner more information hopefully from the city and from the chief because i

you're right, that part of virginia, that part of eastern virginia just outside of the norfolk hampton area is filled with military. every service has a presence there. so if you're a law enforcement officer, you see somebody wearing the uniform of our nation, you should give them a break, give them the benefit of the doubt. don't assume this person is a dangerous actor. i believe that the windsor, virginia, community police force owed not only the second lieutenant an apology, but owes the entire united states army an apology. that was an assault on the individual and it was an assault on the uniform. >> it certainly was. it's heartbreaking to see these things go on and not even a year after george floyd's death sparked these national protests. another black man was shot and killed by police in the minneapolis area. we've got a protest underway there right now. we're showing some live pictures from brooklyn center, about ten miles from the courthouse where the trial is going on. how much do these repeated incidents erode trust? >> well, tremendously, obviously. after the reports that

hour with disturbing new body cam footage and 911 audio from the shooting of an unarmed black man in virginia. the deputy had given this man isaiah brown a ride home. then a 911 call set off a chain of events that ended with the man being shot multiple times by that same deputy. the shooting comes while there is scrutiny and outrage over police shootings in this country. paolo, this is a strange case. the audio and video are both very disturbing. what can you tell us about what led up to the shooting? >> what's is more hard to believe right now, isaiah brown is in serious condition after being shot several times according to his family by a virginia deputy on wednesday. the alleged of this whole shooting was the result of what they are describing as a miscommunication and that all that 32-year-old man had in his hands was a phone he was using to speak to 911 dispatchers during that call. we will play some of the audio and video. according to the sheriff's office, the officer was officering to brown's call of a domestic disturbance. you can hear brown having an argument with his brother. at on

three shootings in virginia beach left eight wounded and two dead four wounded that night in norfolk, two gunmen, killed one and wounded seven in chicago all on the 26th of march. the next day in river george, illinois a mass shooting on a party bus killed one, wounded three. at a night club in mississippi a shooter wounded six and that afternoon four people were shot in chicago. in essex maryland on march 28th a man fatally shot his parents killing two of them and another four shot and wounded on a highway and in cleveland seven people shot at a nightclub. one time, one night in america. except it wasn't. five shot, two killed in d.c. on the 31st. four killed at an office complex in orange, california. one of the victims a 9-year-old boy. on april 3rd, seven wounded near a nightclub in quincy, florida. five wounded in talabama andfour shot the next day in beaumont, texas and in alabama an argument spiralled out of control, 30 shots fired at a local park. one killed and five wounded including four children. in monroe, louisiana, that same night, six shot and wounded at a local bar. ap

west virginia is an interesting model. this is a state that was sort of really moving quickly initially in terms of getting people vaccinated. and then they hit the wall. and the wall is a lot of hesitancy or what we call vaccine fade. not that i necessarily won't get one, i just don't feel like i necessarily need it. the second doses, this is what this graph is on the screen, second doses at times outpacing first doses, which basically means in some of these places they're getting to the end. people will get their second doses but new people aren't willing to sign up. that's what the incentives do. yeah. i think it's a tough ethical question, brianna, but i think in this case as we're trying to get to herd immunity doing anything we can do is really helpful. >> maybe paid leave for workers to go and get the vaccine. some people are hard scheduling it. any way you can influence people to do it might help. cnn has new reporting that advisers to the former president donald trump are urging him. >> i talked to lots of people

i just visited a vaccinate clinic in virginia at the virginia thee logic seminary in alexandria, virginia. the seminary and other houses of worship in the area are partnering with the community health centers to offer vaccination and vaccination sites. they are seeing these kinds of partnerships, not just there but all over the country. people are coming together across the different faiths to serve of those most in need with special focus on vaccinating seniors from all races, backgrounds and walks of life. it's an example of america at its finest, and they are all meeting what pope francis calls the moral obligation. get vaccinated, something which he went on to say can save your life and the lives of others, and i was at the seminary clinic to mark an important milestone as well. yesterday we crossed is 50 million shots in 75 days, the first 75 days of my administration. on our way to hitting our goal of 200 million shots by the 100th day in office. that, of course, is the new goal i set after passing the original mark of 100 million shots in my first 100 days, doing it in just 58 days
