so i don't think a call from ron klain or jen psaki would necessarily have the fox news talking heads change their messaging. one thing i did find interesting about tucker carlson's monologue last night was that that it illustrated they're still having trouble landing a direct hit on the biden administration. this -- this message came hours before biden himself steps out at the white house and said, you don't have to wear a mask outside anymore. it would almost make more sense if he was doing this in the face of news that biden is continues to insist on mask wearing. in fact, you know, if tucker carlson wants less mask wearing, he could amplify the president's message today, but he's turning it into a culture war. it doesn't match up with the facts comes out of the cdc and the government, which are actually saying something that he doesn't disagree with this this time. >> that's the irony of the whole thing, frank. that's why we covering it as disinformation. we're no longer having different takes on the news of the day. it's straight-up disinformation. annie karni knew, and surely tu

monica, ron klain was out there doing interviews today. it's interesting, they want to -- it seems like the message is, hey, we're not going it alone yet. >> exactly, chuck. they're trying to build that runway so then later if there is no republican support for this structure plan, they can say hey, at least we tried. and you did hear that also from the transportation secretary, pete buttigieg, who was on msnbc a few hours ago, saying he's privately talking to lawmakers from both parties about this and then you have the president saying he's going to be inviting those lawmakers into the oval office in the coming days. in the meantime, he did hand out those home work assignments to the five cabinet secretaries representing, of course, transportation, energy, commerce, labor and hud. and he has essentially asked them to report back before the next cabinet meeting on their progress in terms of seeing not just how they sell this on capitol hill but also to the american public. that was a signal to me, again, they're going to do what they did w

they don't want people like jen psaki or ron klain or the president or the vice president leading this campaign. they want it to be people who don't seem to have a political agenda, folks like david was just saying, out in the community and friends and family, but also celebrities who are not a part of our daily political conversation, and the other thing interesting that we're seeing biden officials talk about is a focus on tone. they don't want to create an impression that they're belittling people who are hesitant to take the vaccine or making them feel stupid for not wanting to take the vaccine. rather, they want health officials to be open and sympathetic to the concerns that people out there might have about the vaccine. to be ready to answer questions no matter what they are, no matter how silly they might seem to the experts, but to not make people feel bad about having those concerns and then try to meet them in the middle somehow to persuade them to switch sides. they realize they're not going to get to everybody, but they need to try to get to 85% or 90% of the country in or
