waiting on, what are we learning, pete? >> reporter: the cdc is telling people who are fully vaccinated they can travel with low risk to themselves, but the cdc is still not recommending travel for non-essential purposes, even still this is a huge development, one that was notably absence from cdc guidance for vaccinated individuals that came out back on march 8th. the cdc is telling domestic travelers they do not need to self-quarantine after their trip and do not need to get tested for coronavirus before and after their trip. international travelers still need to show proof of a negative coronavirus test to their airline before coming to the united states. all travelers, though, the cdc says, need to remain smart and vigilant, still need to wear federally mandated masks on board planes and in terminals. and still need to socially distance. even still, it is a huge win for major air lines. travel numbers are already riding high. 22 straight days of more than a million people passing through security at america's airports.

cnn's pete munten has our report. >> reporter: a sad, powerful proceeding here for officer bobby evans. police here as far as the eye could see, not only from u.s. capitol police but the u.s. park police and metropolitan police department and the secret service, was really hard to spot a dry eye here, especially as the hospital staff came occupy on the street from inside to pay homage to officer evans. i saw one female police officer at the top of 23rd street here standing in solemn salute as the vehicle pulled away and robert conte hugging other police officers here. as that procession left what became clear this is part crime scene. the ambulance bay here was covered in crime scene tape. beyond it, you could see a u.s. capitol police cruiser that was being inspected by d.c. homicide detectives that were also taking photographs of that police cruiser and still not totally clear how that was involved but that will come out in this investigation as it unfolds. what is clear is that yet another officer from the u.s. capitol police has been killed in the line of duty in a few short months

for the very latest on that, let's get over to cnn's pete mo i montine. what do the numbers show? >> the numbers are huge for the pandemic. the tsa screened 1.54 million people at airports across the country yesterday. 1.4 million people on saturday. 1.58 million people on friday. that is the new pandemic record. and all of this means about six million people have flown since thursday. compare the numbers to a year ago. these numbers are about 10 times greater than where we were at this point in 2020. but still only about two-thirds of what numbers were prepandemic in 2019. so still a long way to go. but the numbers so big that delta airlines had to actually fill some middle seats onboard its flights. remember, delta has been capping capacity on flights and they said they're done with that policy may 1st but had to do that this weekend to keep up with demand. it seems the numbers will go up from here. the cdc is telling americans that they can travel right now with low risk to themselves if vaccinated but they're also saying that you should avoid travel for nonessential reasons an

start coverage with cnn's pete munteen. this is a big deal, a lot of americans, especially as more americans get vaccinated, looking for government guidance, what is safe and what is not safe for me to do? >> reporter: well the cdc is telling people who are fully vaccinated they can travel with low risk to themselves but there is a big asterisk here, john, they're telling those travelers they can travel, but they should still avoid travel if they can. it is a huge shift, though, something that was notably absent from the most recent cdc guidance on what vaccinated people can do. this says that domestic travelers do not need to get tested before and after their trip, do not need to kwquaranti before and after their trip. international travelers still need to show proof of a negative coronavirus test to their airline before they come back to the u.s. still a lot of caution from the cdc, it's simply telling people if they are going to travel to be smart about it. they still need to wear federally mandated masks on board planes

pete mun the tean is live. up have the big plane behind you, tell us about it. >> reporter: it wasn't all that long ago that thousands of planes were parked by the pandemic. american airlines says all of its clients will be out here flying by the end of the month. first they must inspect everything from the engines down to the coffee maker. pressure is on at american airlines tulsa maintenance base. here, crews are preparing planes to meet the new surge of air travel. hundreds of commercial airliners sat idle on taxiways, ramps, even runways through much of the pandemic. now american says all of its planes will be flying again by the end of the month. no easy task. >> in many ways, we have the aircraft have more maintenance requirements that has been in storm than we do if it is out active and flying. >> reporter: roger steel's team of mechanics are providing 1,000 hours for one plane here. part of the work includes federally mandated boeing 737. american alone parked 300 of them because of the pandemic. the fa

we know the transportation secretary, pete buttigieg, reached out to lisa murkowski. is there a senator or two who is a potential vote for this bill? >> it's the names we've come to know in this congress as being the key votes. we're going to have to look at susan collins, lisa murkowski, maybe folks like ben sass and others who have been more open to negotiation. we know how this playbook goes. there is initially a salvo to republicans. the question here, alongside whether republicans are support it, is will he have 50 democratic votes. because if he gets the joe manchins on board or the kristen sinemas from arizona, that means they have more options, particularly if they try to move this through reconciliation. so this is going to be kind of critical just like the covid relief package, where certainly the white house will reach out to republicans. they have already made clear that this train is going to keep moving, whether mitch mcconnell jumps aboard or not. >> you mentioned joe manchin, let's just admit we're going to mention joe manchin for every piece of legisl

pete, where does this investigation stand tonight? >> reporter: pamela, investigators are just now digging into the past of 25-year-old noah green and what may have caused him to carry out the attack on the capitol here on friday. what's so interesting are his social media posts. we have discovered an instagram account that may have belonged to green. in it he makes a trio of posts in the days leading up to the attack. one post says, quote, i have suffered multiple home break-ins, food poisonings, mind control. another post says "the u.s. government is the enemy of black people." a third post, green describes terrible aftflictions by the kokcia and fbi. some of his fellow football players described seeing similar posts on facebook as recent as march 17th, only a couple weeks ago. one of his fellow football players tells us, quote, he was going through some stuff for sure. you can see the six foot high fence around the capitol perimeter. that's been here since about january 6th. but now concrete barriers just went in beyond it. a lot o
