>> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. well, there are expected to be new recommendations about infection control in hospital settings like hospitals and nursing homes. president biden is likely to make an announcement about the coronavirus today. the cdc is expected to come out with new guidelines for mask wearing today. >> the risk of infection outside is really minimal, if you're vaccinated and you're outside, it's even less. so, what we're going to be doing through the cdc is soon, very soon, clarifying the situation vis-a-vis masks in vaccinated versus on vaccinated people. >> reporter: more than 28% of the country is fully vaccinated against covid-19. >> you don't even have to get out of your car, it's so easy to get these vaccines. >> reporter: but about 5 million people never went back for the second dose. >> a lot of people have stronger reactions in the second dose than the first code. and that's because your body is actually building immunity against the virus and that's why the second dose is important to get.

i'm anne-marie green. we are going to begin this morning with breaking developments in minneapolis, in a suburb there where there was a second night of protests following the deadly police shooting of daunte wright. demonstrators clashed with police in brooklyn center last night. officers blasted tear gas to break up large crowds of people who violated a curfew. they arrested about 40 people. a couple of officers also suffered minor injuries. protesters want justice for wright, a black man shot and killed during a traffic stop on sunday. body cam footage shows an officer who police say mistakenly grabbed her gun instead of a taser. laura podesta has been tracking the latest developments. from new york city for us. laura. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. well, there were rallies here as well. and they remain peaceful, and wright's family asks that protests nationwide remain calm. protesters and police faced off for a second night in minnesota last night. >> are y'all going to kill me, too? >> reporter

i'm anne-marie green. nearly a year after the death of george floyd, a former police officer has been found guilty of murdering him in one of the most closely watched trials in the u.s. there's been reaction nationwide. overnight, people gathered for a memorial in front of cup foods in minneapolis. that's where derek chauvin pinned floyd with hisinutes las. following yesterday's announcement of the guilty verdict, chauvin's bail was revoked and the former police officer was led out of the room in handcuffs. he faces 40 years in prison. skyler henry is in minneapolis minneapolis. skyler, when is derek chauvin to be expected. >> reporter: well, the judge is expected to sentence derek chauvin within two months. when asked what sentence they want to see for the police officer they simply responded adjustable. >> count one, unintentional murder committing a felony find the defendant guilty. >> reporter: derek chauvin showed no reaction. >> second degree murder, third degree murder and manslaughter in the death

i'm anne-marie green. we begin with a mass shooting overnight at a fedex facility in indianapolis. police say at least eight people were shot and killed late last night. when officers arrived, they encountered an active shooting incident. several people were wounded by the gunman, and at least four people were hospitalized including one person with critical injuries. two others were treated at the scene and released. no law enforcement officers were injured. police say the suspected gunman killed himself, and there is no active threat to the community. it is not known if the shooter was an employee at fedex. investigators said they were still in the process of conducting interviews and gathering information. fedex issued a statement saying, "we are aware of the tragic shooting at our fedex grand facility near the indianapolis airport. safety is our top priority, and our thoughts are with all those who are affected." we will have more on this shooting ahead on "cbs this morning." >>> and now to chicago wher

i'm anne-marie green. we're going to begin with the murder trial of former police officer derek chauvin, accused of killing george floyd. the minneapolis police chief who fired chauvin and three other officers is expected to testify today. jurors heard emotional testimony yesterday from floyd's girlfriend. she broke down while talking about his life as a father and son, and she also talked about their struggles with opioid addiction. michael george is in minneapolis. michael, here's the thing, why bring up floyd's past drug use if the defense says that that's probably how he died? >> reporter: well, the prosecution appears to be trying to get ahead of that argument. george floyd's girlfriend testified that like many americans, he suffered from an opioid addiction. yesterday we also heard some key testimony from derek chauvin's own supervising sergeant. on thursday, a retired police sergeant said derek chauvin restrained george floyd longer than was necessary. >> when mr. floyd was no longer offering up any
