i'm anne-marie green. we are going to begin this morning with breaking developments in minneapolis, in a suburb there where there was a second night of protests following the deadly police shooting of daunte wright. demonstrators clashed with police in brooklyn center last night. officers blasted tear gas to break up large crowds of people who violated a curfew. they arrested about 40 people. a couple of officers also suffered minor injuries. protesters want justice for wright, a black man shot and killed during a traffic stop on sunday. body cam footage shows an officer who police say mistakenly grabbed her gun instead of a taser. laura podesta has been tracking the latest developments. from new york city for us. laura. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. well, there were rallies here as well. and they remain peaceful, and wright's family asks that protests nationwide remain calm. protesters and police faced off for a second night in minnesota last night. >> are y'all going to kill me, too? >> reporter

i'm anne-marie green. we begin with a mass shooting overnight at a fedex facility in indianapolis. police say at least eight people were shot and killed late last night. when officers arrived, they encountered an active shooting incident. several people were wounded by the gunman, and at least four people were hospitalized including one person with critical injuries. two others were treated at the scene and released. no law enforcement officers were injured. police say the suspected gunman killed himself, and there is no active threat to the community. it is not known if the shooter was an employee at fedex. investigators said they were still in the process of conducting interviews and gathering information. fedex issued a statement saying, "we are aware of the tragic shooting at our fedex grand facility near the indianapolis airport. safety is our top priority, and our thoughts are with all those who are affected." we will have more on this shooting ahead on "cbs this morning." >>> and now to chicago wher

good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning, jury deliberations will continue in derek chauvin's murder trial. yesterday, the panel heard nearly six hours of closing arguments and rebuttal in the case against the former minneapolis police officer charged with george floyd's death. the jury met late in the night but didn't come up with a verdict on any of the counts. chauvin has pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree murder, third degree murder and second degree manslaughter. skyler henry is in minneapolis. skyler, this all comes as the defense attorney called for a mistrial right at the end there, right? >> reporter: that's right, anne-marie. good morning to you. the defense says given the high profile nature of the trial and media exposure and stern words from maxine waters when she was here visiting the twin cities are grounds for a mistrial. she told a group of protesters in the daunte wright protests that she should be more confrontational if derek chauvin is acquitted. nds fo appeal.ed that reqhe

i'm anne-marie green. we're going to begin with the murder trial of former police officer derek chauvin, accused of killing george floyd. the minneapolis police chief who fired chauvin and three other officers is expected to testify today. jurors heard emotional testimony yesterday from floyd's girlfriend. she broke down while talking about his life as a father and son, and she also talked about their struggles with opioid addiction. michael george is in minneapolis. michael, here's the thing, why bring up floyd's past drug use if the defense says that that's probably how he died? >> reporter: well, the prosecution appears to be trying to get ahead of that argument. george floyd's girlfriend testified that like many americans, he suffered from an opioid addiction. yesterday we also heard some key testimony from derek chauvin's own supervising sergeant. on thursday, a retired police sergeant said derek chauvin restrained george floyd longer than was necessary. >> when mr. floyd was no longer offering up any

here is mary to check your forecast. cooler but nice. >>> it will be a pleasant day with mild temperatures, just not as warm as yesterday and the day before with the record breaking highs. we will cool down starting today, highs about five to ten degrees cooler compared to yesterday. you can see the reason why, those changes are coming our way with the fog rolling in. that indicates that on shore flow kicking back in, marine influence back for the bay area. temperatures are in the 40s and 50s even down to 39, a cold start in santa rosa. 50 concord. oakland 54, 47 livermore. downtown san francisco 49 and 51 for san jose. checking visibility, watching fog roll in along the coast around the bay and even inland locations as well down to three quarters of a mile in santa rosa. i want to talk about our sierra snowpack. of course we had our last snow survey yesterday and it does not look good. looking at 59% of average for the sierra snowpack. sierra snow making up and accounting for about a third of california's water supply.
