if you move into the district of columbia, you understand that is the situation. beyond that, there is a possible compromise which would be to move parts into virginia or maryland where they could become citizens of virginia and maryland and then vote for the senators of those two states. alexandria and arlington became part of virginia across the river rather than creating two additional senators which clearly comes across as simply a power grab to hack the u.s. senate. i think that compromise makes a lot more sense. paul: that kim democrats don't want that because they want the two more senators for the district. where does this stand in the senate right now? what about support from democrats quick. >> that's a problem. unlike the other controversial bills that have come along, this one has people divided. newly minted senator kelly expressing reservations saying maybe there is another way. senate majority leader schumer says he is in favor of dc statehood he has no immediate plans to bring up the bill. democrats keep debating what bill to bring and how they blo

after a video shows him shoving and berating a black man and demanding he leave the neighborhood in columbia, south carolina. we have the story live in new york. good morning. >> good morning, trace. yeah, that sheriff says what he saw in the video is terrible. take a look for yourself. in that video it shows u.s. army staff sergeant shoveling and yelling at a young black man walking in his neighborhood monday telling him you are in the wrong neighborhood and calling him an expletive. he said he has done nothing wrong. he continues to verbally attack him. the active duty soldier based in fort jackson has been charged with third degree assault and battery. the sheriff says stems from him putting his hands on the young man. he could face a fine of up to 30 days in jail. the sheriff says the altercation may have started when the victim was involved in some quote other incident in the neighborhood. we don't know what those are. some reports suggest the young man may have an underlying medical condition. the sheriff insists none of those previous incidents justify the assault that followed. >> we

first of all i would direct him to a supreme court decision called heller versus district of columbia. what the supreme court said in that case on its face is arguably consistent with what president biden said. second amendment protects an individual right and extends to what people who are law abiding would commonly utilize and own for lawful purposes. so yeah, they've acknowledged it is not absolute. i have a feeling, though, he doesn't necessarily have the same thing in mind as the supreme court said. the fact that an amendment is not absolute, that there are no exceptions ever to any protection doesn't get him to where he wants to go here which is i suspect a national gun registry system and massive process of federaly banning firearms held by law abiding persons for lawful purposes. that is not consistent with the constitution or what the american people will accept. >> bill: what his words yesterday those are phony arguments suggesting second amendment rights are at stake for what he is talking about. sir, we'll continue this conversation again very soon. thank you, senator, mik
