. >> that's governor brian kemp. joining us now, cnn analyst and election lawyer ben gibbs. thanks for being with us. when states around the country -- and there are many states now considering actions not unlike georgia's, some more restrictive than georgia's -- when they see major league baseball moving the all-star game out and see delta and coke pulling out, how much of an impact do you think that will be on lawmakers as they weigh the restriction to pass new voting laws? >> it has some impact. my guess is it drives something of a wedge in republican caucuses. there will be a group of republicans who are very adamant about pushing through these regulations, but there will also be more moderate sensible business oriented republicans who know that there is a valid point made in the georgia law because it gus have good provisions that are needed in election law but also some completely mean-spirited political provisions that don't stand up, not giving people food and water in line, being the greatest example of that. >> but, ben, about that. about those good provisions that

governor brian kemp is calling major league baseball, quote, scared of the white house and democratic activists and so-called cancel culture. >> major league baseball put the wishes of stacey abrams and joe biden ahead of the economic well being of hard-working georgians who were counting on the all-star game for a paycheck. >> well, several large corporations and civil rights groups are pushing back against georgia, saying the law intentionally makes it harder for minorities to vote. >>> and texas is also part of the nationwide effort by republicans to place tougher restrictions on voting. the g.o.p.-led state senate advance add bill to ban drop boxes, limit early voting hours and give more power to poll watchers to videotape voters they deem suspicious. texas is one of the a handful of states that doesn't universally use ballots that leave a little paper trail but can be audited. one of the simplest lines of defense against voter fraud. according to "the new york times," if this form of the bill passes, it will make sure that they don't use such ballots for another five years likely

now, the key difference here is that in the state of georgia, after georgia governor brian kemp signed that legislation into law, we started hearing protests from companies. like delta, coca-cola. not really beforehand. in the state of texas, we're starting to see some of those companies that are based in texas speaking out as the bills are moving through the legislature. thus giving them potentially more influence. now, it may change. we don't know. this is what activists wanted to see in the state of georgia. american airlines, dell spoke out specifically against that bill i referenced. as well as a similar bill in the texas house. hb 6 which is still at the committee level right now. but they're speaking out about specific things they dislike in the bills. that's what activists wanted to see happen in georgia. it did not happen there. so we'll see whether or not it will have any impact on what is happening as far as legislation goes in texas. >> dianne gallagher, thank you. we're seeing republicans now threatening to penalize the companies, removing tax breaks, et cetera. we want to
