live from cnn world headquarters in atlanta, welcome to all of you watching here in the united states, canada and around the world, i'm kim brunhuber. this is "cnn newsroom." ♪ ♪ >> we begin with breaking news out of taiwan where dozens of dead after a train derailed. you can see rescue teams here in this video helping survivors from the damaged cars, taiwan's government says at least 41 people were killed. we're hearing from the central news agency that the accident may have happened after a vehicle hit the moving train. let's go straight to ivan watson who is following the developments from hong kong. ivan, a tragic start to a holiday weekend in taiwan. what's the latest there? >> reporter: well, a desperate rescue effort, frankly, after this terrible and deadly train disaster where you have the premiere of taiwan now updating that up to 41 people are believed to have been killed in this accident, including the driver of the train. it was the number 408 train that was traveling down the east side of taiwan from taipei and it was entering a tunnel north of the city of huallen whe

atlanta's mayor feels that losing the all-star game may just be the binning of the backlash. the latest, here is natasha change. >> they say he caved to cancel culture and that president joe biden and stacey abrams have been lying to the american people about this law. skied about whether or not they had anything to do with the urgency or time line of this law? >> is the time on this is based on your belief that was there fraud. >> i realize that people have different opinions and beliefs about the 2020 election, but make no mistake there was issues that happened on the election like they do in every election. >> they also say that mlb should have come to him with specific complaints about the bill and that he would welcome questions about the specifics. so we asked about things like banning mobile voting centers, specifying the number of drop boxes and locations. he chalked up a lot of that to improved election security. now you have proathletes and politicians chiming in seeing they support the decision here and whether or not you support o oppose it it is local businesses

live from cnn world headquarters in atlanta welcome to all of you watching here in the united states, canada and around the world, i'm kim brunhuber. this is "cnn newsroom." ♪ >> hundreds of protesters took to the streets of brooklyn center, minnesota, for a fourth night demanding justice following the fatal police shooting of daunte wright. the crowd was largely peaceful, but once a nighttime curfew set in demonstrators threw fireworks and bottles at police. police used flash banks and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. the protest was declared an unlawful assembly and some two dozen people were arrested. more than 3,000 national guard troops have been activated across the twin cities area. cnn has been on the streets of brooklyn center every night following the unrest. law enforcement officials say the tension was easing wednesday after the arrest of the officer who shot wright. still, protesters were dug in ahead of the curfew wednesday night as sara sidner reports. >> reporter: early on the crowd being a bit more angry earlier and you're seeing sort of the exchange that happe

i'm robyn curnow live from cnn world news headquarters here in atlanta. so after more than a year of the covid pandemic, america's health care workers are running on empty. there's no other way to say it. a new poll from "the washington post" and the kaiser family foundation lays out some troubling signs. i want you to have a look at this. roughly 3 in 10 health care workers say they've weighed up leaving the profession. more than half are burned out, and about 6 in 10 say stress from the pandemic has harmed their mental health. to talk about that, i want to bring in dr. mona massoud, an outpatient psychiatrist and the finder of the physician support line. doctor, thank you very much for joining us. what kind of pressure are frontline health workers under at the moment? >> frontline workers, physicians, nurses, everyone on the actual front lines of covid as well as kind of behind the scenes in our clinics and outpatient settings are all under a tremendous amount of pressure being called heroes and being expected to kind of fight a battle or a war that the

since the atlanta area spa shootings on march 16th, there have been at least 50 mass shootings reported in the united states. >> when you see people getting killed, i mean, in this last month it's just been horrifying what's happened. how can you say that's not a public health issue? >> reporter: what also has health professionals and public officials worried is the idea of americans simply accepting this kind of mass gun violence. >> we must guard against resignation or even despair. the assumption that this is simply how it must be and that we might as well set used to it. >> reporter: president biden has in recent weeks announced some executive actions on gun control, including a measure to eliminate kits that people can buy to build untraceable guns at home. the president also wants to ban assault-style weapons and high capacity magazines and establish stricter background checks for gun purchases, but despite all the mass shootings just since president biden has been in office there's little appetite among republicans and even some moderate democrats in congress to pass stricter gun
