major league baseball has moved its all-star game from atlanta to colorado. to the critics point to hypocrisy saying colorado has an even more restrictive voting law

atlanta is 51% african-american. they moved it to denver, a city that is 9% african-american because they are such woke social justice warriors that they are going to take $100 million out of the pockets of the african-american small businesses and workers in atlanta. it makes no sense. it's dangerous and i do think there is a strong backlash that is building because the american people, when you go to a baseball game, you are not interested in their lecturing you on left wing politics. you would like to see people play a game of baseball. >> ben: the thing that i'm concerned about, senator, we have these handful of institutions that still unite us in american life. and we see them being torn apart by this woke leftism which is taking over all of these different entities that had been unifying elements of american life that we could all go to a baseball game together and cheer alongside each other regardless of race of religion, et cetera. to me, this is something that has to be solved from the bottom up, from the co

the city with only 9% black population compared to 51% in atlanta. georgia governor brian kemp joins us now. great to have you here today. seem to be the man of the hour, a busy one. do you believe major league baseball will live to regret that decision? >> i think they will. it's almost comical, all of these that keep falling and moving the all-star game from the cities and at 60% african-american to an metro area that is less than 10%, they have less of early voting days. they have a photo i.d. requirement, for in person voting. it's insane. we compared to where major league baseball is headquartered in new york, and i've talked to that issue at nausea them really about the discrepancies and how they are boycotting and pulling games out of the state like ours. yet they are headquartered in the state that's more restrictive than they are. it doesn't add up. and, there's a couple of provisions in this bill that are, with this i.d. if we can't hand out food or water and if you do it then you can't announce who you are and can't have any labeling. then

alicia: steve harrigan in atlanta. griff. griff give joining us to react is a georgia state senator who supported the voting rights law and who was just at the press conference with governor kemp senator matt brass, thank you for joining us. tell us what was your takeaway and tell us what you think about what has happened? >> well, griff, thanks. i i think the governor did a great job. it's time for a fight. one of the interesting parts of all this and this is all president biden's fault. the white house and president biden stacey abrams, they continue to spread lies to paint their narrative and they use these catchy phrases like jim crow 2.0 but what's interesting if you actually go back to jim crow 1.0, back then it was democrats, it was corporate america and it was our major league sports that told a group of people that their values didn't matter, that they're not going to have a voice and anybody that supports them is going to get punished and so they may be right in jim crow 2.0 because we are seeing all over again when

you've got keisha bottoms, the mayor of atlanta, who is also saying she's disappointed about it. and it is a lot of money. but again, past the money, you've got to figure this is looking through the political prizm, whether it's for business or politicians but they've got to get the story right, as kat mentioned. it's not us, it's the washington post that pointed out that people are looking at old versions of the bill and not looking at the final version and some of the details which in some cases, not all, but some cases expand voter rights. howie: yeah, media have to be careful jumping on the bandwagon to get the facts right. let me move to the pandemic. the media rhetoric heated up after the cdc chief said she was scared. >> i'm going to lose the script. i'm going to reflect on the recurring feeling i have of impending doom. howie: donald trump's former medical advisors appeared in a documentary and deborah birx described a tense call from the president. >> were you threatened? >> i would say it was a very uncomfortable conversation. he felt very strongly that i misrepresented

they say that atlanta is a city that is 51% black as opposed to denver just 9% black. and they point out also in 2016 colorado had voting problems of its own having to disqualify 25,000 ballots due to problems with signatures. a number of georgia democrats are caught in a tough position. they oppose the new voting law and think it's restribtive especially for people of color but also oppose moving the all-star game or boycotting any georgia businesses. the chairwoman of cobb county. >> i think there are people on both sides that agree that everyone boycotting each other is not going to be the answer. looking at civic participation and economic vitality, those two things should not have to be polarized. >> the battle right now is here in georgia but it is already expanding to texas. they passed a bill to already limit early voting. so a fight that starts here getting bigger here is going to expand to several more states in the weeks ahead. bill and dana, back to you. >> bill: good stuff in atlanta. we'll bring in tom cotton. there is a ton to cover in this. let you have

the atlanta mayor key sha lance bottoms and stacey abrams have made similar arguments. how do you protect the right to vote and at the same time have the ability for a lot of these folks to make a living, especially during this covid pandemic? >> that's the consideration the governor and members of the legislature should really take into account when they seek to undermine and subvert democracy. this is not about their ability to get reelected. this should be about the citizens of georgia. so when they make these decisions, corporate america also has decisions to make. i hope in the future they will balance between the care of their citizens of the state as opposed to their political power grabs. >> you agree with major league baseball's decision to move the game out of atlanta and move it now to denver? >> you know, only way we're going to be able to protect our way of life, this democracy, to ensure we have a representative approach to how we govern is to hold elected officials accountable. if veoters are being disenfranchised, if the courts are not holding people acc

it's going to be denver, not atlanta? >> that's what the reports are right now coming out of local media at this point, jim. look, politicians out of colorado seem to be all but confirming that. cnn has not independently confirmed the move but we're told that the expectation is that an announcement will come today. according to media in colorado, that announcement will be that they are moving the major league baseball all-star game this summer from atlanta to denver. and the reasons are obviously beyond the high altitude at-bats we'll be seeing there. colorado governor jared polis issued a statement saying, like so many coloradans, i'm excited and hopeful that major league baseball makes the best decision and formally chooses to play the 2021 all-star game in denver. it would be good for baseball and good for colorado. when this announcement started leaking last night, we did see some -- to be fair -- intellectually dishonest comparisons of georgia voting legislation that just passed and the current laws in colorado. now,

it's not just the all-star game scheduled in atlanta. they pulled it out as a result of the voting law in georgia. are they going to examine the voting laws in every state? colorado is mostly voting by mail. fewer people, really, vote in person right now. the minority makeup of each city is different. atlanta is a majority minority city and denver is a majority white city. are these the considerations that national league -- major league baseball is going to use in deciding in the future. >> if so, they have opened an enormous can of worms here. >> martha: one thing that stands out, people forget this part of the equation. there's more than 50 lawsuits across the country to expand voting in these states because of covid. feels like the phrase is in everything we do. because of covid, we have to mail the absentee ballots out universally. because of covid, we have to expand the window for voting because we're in the middle of a pandemic. now everybody forgotten that and now they act like they're entrenched laws. these are the changes that
