let's get to blake burman standing by at the white house with the late breaking details. blake? >> hi there, susan, larry kudlow told us on the north lawn earlier today at the white house that if there is one main expectation for these trade talks next week, it is that china were to live up to its promise, to have a large scale ag buy but for lack of a better term there's not much hype, i guess you could say, going into these trade talks as the expectations are somewhat low. the treasury secretary santa monica, the top trade representative robert lighthizer will be going over to shanghai next week the discussions tuesday and wednesday to talk with their counterparts. the treasury secretary did tell me earlier this week though that he believes they are still a few meetings away from any sort of potential deals, so it gives you an idea of what the timeline here might be at this point. kudlow said today that hopefully china will return to the point of where the deal was at least in football terms of getting back to inside the 10-yard line. listen. >> i know sometimes you don't get

fox business's blake burman live on the scene. blake? reporter: president trump is expected to meet at this hour at the white house with republican senators to discuss potentially leveling sanctions against turkey. this stems from turkey who is of course a nato ally, buying a missile defense system, the s-400 missile defense system recently from russia. those same group of republican senators earlier up on capitol hill were joined by treasury secretary steve mnuchin who was trying to pitch them on the budget caps deal and the debt ceiling deal that he cut just yesterday with democratic leadership. as part of that deal defense spending will jump $22 billion next year while non-defense spending will rise $27 billion but many republicans are already expressing reservation about more spending. keep in mind the deficit this year is expected to hit $1 trillion. the white house is predicting trillion dollar deficits for years to come. earlier today i asked larry kudlow how that equate to fiscal conservativism. listen. >> the spending increases

to blake burman in d.c. blake, some think the president needs to deliver a trade deal with china before the elections in a way that soothes his base, some of whom are suffering due to the tariffs. reporter: there's the political equation of the president potentially needing a trade deal before the election, but president trump made it seem on friday that might not be the case, and that's why there's not very many expectations or at least a part of the reason why there are low expectations going into this meeting in shanghai. let's just take a look at what happened last week because the treasury secretary steve mnuchin said that he expects there are at least a few more meetings away before a potential deal. then larry kudlow came out friday morning and said he doesn't expect there to be any sort of grand deal resulting from these meetings on tuesday and wednesday in shanghai, and then friday afternoon, we got the comments from president trump in which he said at this point, he believes that maybe china is try
